“Quiet and peaceful”

We stayed at the hotel for a week from 27 January 2008.
We had booked and paid for a 1 bedroomed deluxe suite and were upgraded to a 2 bedroomed deluxe ocean front suite! It was beautiful and truely ocean front. If we had jumped off the balcony we would have been on the beach!
The hotel is peaceful and quite. As previously stated, quite a few Canadians visit on a regular basis, and it is no wonder why. Everyone is so so helpful and friendly. Everwhere is clean and tidy and we never had to hunt to hard for a sun lounger, no matter what time we wanted one.
We ate on our first night in Lanterns restaurant. It was fine but as we like to dine around did not go back. The immediate area has few restaurants/bars, but a short taxi ride takes you to the Gap. We never stayed late, but it has plenty restaurants, Piscies being excellent, others medicore, but none bad. We self catered in the main for breakfast and lunch in our hotel room, as it had a fully equiped kitchen. The nearest shop is about 50 metres from the hotel and has very reasonable prices.
All in all, this is a great resort hotel. Friendly staff, excellent location on a great beach in quiet surroundings. You can self cater or have 3 meals a day provided by the hotel. We would certainly return and definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for quality and tranquility.

My mother and I have recently returned from a week's stay at the above hotel on Barbados. I am not one to post reviews usually, but feel inclined to share my experience of this wonderful hotel. It was recommended to me by a travel agent who had stayed there herself, which was reassuring, and we were not disappointed. The hotel is situated on Maxwell Beach in the south west of the island, a mere 20-minute drive from the airport. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, the staff at the hotel could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The resort itself was spotless, with well-kept gardens and pools. The accommodation was amazing; we stayed in a spacious one-bedroom deluxe suite with modern furnishings and brand new kitchen equipment. The two restaurants on site (one à la carte, the other on the beach) provided excellent food and service, and the hotel provided plenty of entertainment, whether it be Caribbean dancing during the Caribbean buffet or singers accompanied by steel drums. The only other thing left to mention is the beach ... a typical picture postcard! I would highly recommend this resort.

The Bougainvillea is quite a large hotel which appears to be a combination of what was formerly two hotels. many of the rooms are timeshare and hence there are a lot of repeat visitors who seem to predominantly hail from Canada (perhaps Canada is too cold in the winter).

We stayed for two weeks and a change of room was necessary half way during the stay as there was a timeshare owner requiring our room for the second week. However the move was handled well by the hotel with minimal disruption.

The hotel's facilities are good if you are looking for a beach holiday, but there is little for children to do.

The hotel staff were particularly friendly and went out of their way to help. They never seemed to have any difficulty in finding seats at restraunts. Only on one occasion did we eat in the hotel, which was the BBQ evening and the food was average. A top tip is to buy your lunch from one of the two hot food vans which sits outside the hotel entrance betweek 12 and 1: Their home-cooked food is both good quality and cheap. This is where many of the hotel staff get their lunches from!

There are two beaches associated with the hotel, both of which were clean and uncrowded. There are the usual sellers of trinkets on the beaches (all beaches in Barbados are open to the public, so you will not get away from this anywhere), but they were not overly persistant. The hotel rooms are spacious, though only providing a shower rather than a bath. The second week's room was more updated that the first and felt fresher.

There is little to do in the immediate vacinity of the hotel, but St lawrence Gap is a short BD$15 taxi ride away where there are many restraunts and bars located. Pices and David's Place were particularly good.

In summery, we very much enjoyed our time in the hotel and would consider returning again if another trip to Barbados was on the cards.

Me and my sister stayed at this hotel Febuary 2007, we had never been to the caribbean before so we were very excited. We booked this holiday as a one weeks stay in the Bougainvillea and then a one week cruise on Ocean Village, our first week was a stay at the Bouainvillea. We were amazed when we arrived at this hotel how lovely it was, the front of the hotel and foyer was so inviting, we really didn't think this was our hotel until they called our names on the mini bus because we we awestruck by the beauty of the hotel .
We were checked in by the friendly recetion staff then we were shown to our room. Our room was a deluxe studio and it was huge, (bearing in mind our holidays are normally to Greece where the rooms are basic) it was very tastefully decorated and the house keeping staff had left fresh bougainvillea around the room, it was a lovely touch.
The food at the restaurants were very good for breakfast and for evening meal.
The beach was fantasic I had never seen sand so white before and the sea was a beautiful topaz blue. I would highly recommend this hotel and I will be definately going back to the Bougainvillea one day.

“Beautiful island, great accommodation.....”

Bougainvillea Beach Resort

Jan 25, 2008

We recently arrived back from Barbados and had a great holiday. We would definitely recommend the Bougainvillea Beach Resort. The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We were self catering in a deluxe studio which was really lovely and spacious and very clean. Everything was provided for you, e.g. beach towels (which can be changed every day on the beach), shampoo/conditioner/body lotion, mosquito machine/tablets, iron, ironing board, washing up liquid, tea towel and dishcloth, clothes washing powder together with a fully equipped kitchen.

Our balcony was overlooking the swimming pools/waterfalls and beach. A word about the beach, it was the type of sand which feels ultra soft, like stepping on to sieved white flour - very beautiful! The warm sea was turquoise however, it was a little rough on some days (for me). The hotel gardens are immaculately kept as are all the pool areas.

If you like living it up and expect all night entertainment, this hotel is not for you. There are themed nights and music with a band but it is low key and entertainment ends at 10pm with the bar staying open a little later. Nothing is loud and disturbing to residents. St. Lawrence gap is only about 5 minutes down the road with lots of restaurants and bars. We did find the some restaurants a little on the expensive side.

We hired a car and explored the island, getting lost quite a few times as the road signs are virtually non-existent but thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this hotel and the area which is only 15 minutes by taxi from the airport. The people of Barbados were very friendly and so eager to talk to you and give you a wave.

    • Disliked — The hotel was great but not suitable for the disabled as there are no lifts, although if required ground floor accommodation could be requested.
