“Perfect for the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

I spent 3 days with my son and two sisters just before Christmas 2012, and trully enjoyed our stay. The location directly in front Rockley/Accra beach was priceless! Public transportation is available as you step out, so is the mini-mart and mall within walking distance. My room also had a balcony view of the beach which was beautiful for having breakfast with friendly bird company. Front desk service was friendly and accommodating in helping us secure a late check-out. Even the security guard gave helpful advice. Additionally, I was agitated to enter the shower the first day and not have hot water, but after reporting it was fixed. All in all I got my money's worth, had fun and enjoyed my visit.

The best things about the Blue Horizon are:
1: The location, about 20 yards from Rockley beach, with it's glorious sand, warm sea, some great restaurants and the boardwalk.
2: The rooms are spacious, the air con works (although is ancient).
3: It is cheap.

The down side about the BH is that the hotel has not been maintained to a high standard, and looks very dated, from the color scheme (it looks like a pack of Skittles), the televisions, the breakfast area (service with no smile). Being next to a fast food chicken establishment is a double edged sword too, if you have the midnight munchies it is great, otherwise the noise, smell and traffic can be a nuisance.

Service is up and down, some of the staff are great, others give the impression that you are interfering with their lives by asking for anything.

Provided you know what you are letting yourself in for, then it is a reasonable place to stay, and the money you save (if the weather is good the last thing you want to do in Barbados is to be stuck in a room) can be put to good use on the island.

I stayed at the blue Horizon for 4 nights in late April 2012. Everyone was friendly and helpful, i enjoyed my stay. the room i was allocated was on the second floor room 222 . facing the pool.which was quiet and nice away from the road. I actually travelled with members of sport club.so some of us had to share a room which has extra beds and a kitchenette with small amenities that you use every day in the kitchen. our stay at the hotel included breakfast, which was good. there was a small store at the hotel where you can purchase little basic that you nee.the beach across the street from the hotel was great, we had a ball there checking out the souvenirs at the small huts on the beach. but basically Barbados is a beautiful place to visit especially the Harrison Caves,we wished we had more time to stay and visit all the souvenirs shops, malls and Bridgetown .. I hope to visit again soon and enjoy another stay at the blue Horizon Hotel

I too, having read the reviews on this hotel was feeling a bit uneasy about what to expect when i made my booking in february, but in all honesty, i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I travelled with my mother & on arrival we were allocated a second floor room and yes due to the lack of an elevator, it was deemed unsuitable. We requested a ground floor room & were accommodated immediately. Yes this is an older hotel & the decor reflects this, big deal! it is clean & comfortable. The staff were absolutely lovely, friendly & helpful. The location is great, it is situated right across the road from one of the nicest beaches on the island & it is central to everything. I would definitely recommend this hotel

Stayed at the The Blue Horizon in Rockley, Christ Church with family from March 11 to March 18, 2012. We had three rooms, each with a kitchenette. This is a basic hotel across the street from a fantastic beach. The hotel and rooms are a bit dated, as noted in other reviews. The pool is small, but good for a quick dip to cool off. The hotel has a restaurant with decent food. There is also a small store located on the hotel grounds where you can buy a few basic things.
I stayed in room 211. Located at the end of the hallway, it was an average room, clean, everything worked, lots of hot water and a partial view of the ocean. The bed was ok, but not as comfortable as home. During the day, I opened the balcony door and the front door to the room. This allowed the breeze to blow through – kept the room cool and felt great. At night I closed everything and turned on the air conditioning. The air conditioning worked very well and kept the room very cool – nice for sleeping. I found it to be a bit noisy at night and was usually woken up by noise at least once per night. There was a free continental breakfast that consisted of toast and a muffin with coffee/tea and juice. The staff at the hotel were pleasant and businesslike.
Rockley seemed to be a bustling place (a least when we were there). There was a lot of traffic on the street in front of the hotel, there were a lot of people in the area and several vendors set up next to the beach selling souvenirs.
The big attraction is the beach across the street. Rockley Beach is beautiful…white sand and lots of waves to jump around in. At the beach there is a public washroom with shower and locker facilities (a bit rundown, but clean). There is a boardwalk that starts at the west end of the beach. I walked it for approximately 15 minutes – a very relaxing walk with beautiful views.
There are several restaurants in the area including “Bert’s Bar”, about a 5 minute walk east, “Cheffette”, which is next door, or “The Side Shore Beach Bar and Bistro”, located at the beach. There is a convenience store with a lot of selection and decent prices located at the Quayside Center Shopping Plaza, about a 5 minute walk west . There are lots of place to go shopping or to hunt for souvenirs in the general area. There is a bank (The Scotiabank) located about a 7 minute walk west of the hotel. There is a liquor store about a 5-7 minute walk to the west of the hotel. There are many other shops, stores and restaurants in the area, all within walking distance and all of these locations are on the same street as the Blue Horizon.
In general, the hotel meets a traveler’s needs and is in a good location, but could use a few improvements. As a budget hotel it is acceptable.

I stayed at the Blue Horizon for 2 nights in early March. The greeting at the Front Desk was business-like and I had kind assistance in getting to my room up at the top floor of the front building. I found the room to be spacious, but the fittings seemed a bit dated...functional, but dated. I was surprised that the louvered windows facing the outer corridor bore no curtains, and thought this did not allow for privacy. The food in the restaurant was tasty (I had breakfast 2 days), but the eating area is really small and the staff while attentive did not seem co-ordinated (I was asked at least twice for my order and twice if I siigned for my meal). The Horizon could use some roofs and eaves between and alongside some of its buildings - Barbados does get rain sometimes - to protect its guests and allow ease of movement around the compound. Lastly, the width of the corridors outside the rooms is narrow. Other than these physical (architectural and furnishing) issues in a clearly older establishment, my stay was otherwise comfortable. The location is right on the main road, so access via public transport was easy.

Room Tip: Maybe stay on the lower floor if you do not like stairs; I did not see an elevator in the building i...

With its location and pleasant enought site this hotel could be so much better. But it is let down by indifferent service, particularly for breakfast and restaurant service.

Also had a run of room maintenance problems (safe, aircon, light bulbs and wireless internet) all of which were more hassle than one might have hoped.

We got a good rate though and none of the problems is a disaster - there are nice places to eat nearby and the access to the beach boardwalk makes up for a lot.

Room Tip: avoid being near the service point for the drive in nex door - noisy thru the night. Bt the balconi...
