“Really good hotel for the star rating”

Butterfly Beach Hotel

I would like to start by staying "Steve's" review is spot on. Its exaclt what l would have said about The Butterfly Beach hotel. One person wrote the beach was disapointing, as it was rocky and could only be reached at low tide. What she failed to say was that to the right of the hotel there is another beach which is accessed through a got at the side of the hotel pool. This beach was brilliant and could be reached at any time! We had a superior beach view room and it was excellent for the rating. Very large, cleaned everyday, TV which had a decent amount of channels, and an amazing view. The staff in the restaurant were moody, but as Steve said if you invited then to chat they were friendly, and anyway who wants to be friends with the staff on holiday? Make sure you do the Cattermaran tours, we did ours with Al Tigro but they all seem to be the same, its a great day out. The buses that take you to "St Laurence Gap" for $1.50 each was amazing, you never waitied more than 30 seconds for it, ok it could get a bit crowded, but thats half the fun! We even took it back to the hotel at night, but not after 11pm, and felt totally safe. The restaurants at "St Laurenc Gap" were great, we didnt have a bad meal, Houdini's and Joseps were our favorite, oh and Bellini's. Some of the restaurants were a little expensive average price of some was £80 for two, with drinks, but others were as cheap as £50 for two with drinks, and they were still really lovely restaurants with beach/bay views. Location of the hotel is perfect. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a moderate hotel in an amazing Country.

Just returned from 10 days at he Butterfly Beach and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I will admit to been slightly apprehensive after reading some of the reviews on here, but this was unfounded. Overall the hotel is very good for the star rating it has, people seem to forget this fact. The rooms are big and well equipped, having both air conditioning, ceiling fans, safe (about $22 BDS, £5 ish), fridge, kettle, hot plate etc. They are a little dated but again look at the star rating. The decks, pools area and Jacuzzi area are all very good, kept clean and tidy. Yes there are better beaches on the island, but the two by the hotel and I mean right by, are great, safe and with very little hassle that you tend to get on the more popular beaches. The staff can come across as a little uninterested but if you engage them they are very friendly, especially Maria in the bar / restaurant and Candice on reception. The breakfasts are good as is the lunch menu. Yes the dinner menu is slightly limited but the food is very good and it is quite reasonable. We hired a car to explore the island from Coconut Cars, who were friendly and quite cheap, paid for 3 days got 4 free. Over all I would recommend the hotel to anyone, as long as the remember that it is not the Four Seasons, but you are not paying Four Season prices.

The Butterfly was a pleasent hotel. The Staff were relaxed and maybe a little too laid back during breakfast. Evening staff particularly John were happy & friendly. The bar prices were excellent food was good value all though evening menu was very limited, the barbecue food was good especially after mood enhancing hour. The closing time of the bar was 11pm on the dot which could be slightly annoying if you arrived back at the hotel after a meal expecting a night cap.

The beach was clean and very nice as was the pool. The sea although sometimes choppy was pretty safe. The room was although not ready when we arrived which was not a problem as we had a drink in the bar, we later realised that checkout is not until 12 which on the last day is great so we then understood why the room was not ready.

The rooms were very clean if a little dated, the only problem was the poor quality of the pillows. The lady in the hotel shop was very friendly and helpful as was reception.

There were many great restaurants in the Gap close to the hotel which could be reached easily by the small local buses which only cost 1.50 Barbados Dollars 40p. The best restaurants were the Pisces which was not cheap but fantastic food, service & location, also Cafe Sol was a cheaper mexican restaurant but good food. Jumbies is a good fun bar for a night out the Ship Inn is a nice english bar to watch british sport.

I would recommend hiring a car to see more of the island, the West coast has plenty of great sandy beaches and the East coast is worth a visit to Bathsheba however the roads tend dissappear at times and you end up drivinhg through sugar cane fields.

Overall a great holiday and the locals are so friendly and chilled out and we have booked another holiday in February

We stayed at the butterfly beach hotel from the 30th of may for two weeks. its in a good location but it is basic and the food is not good! we ate there for lunch most days because its the only close place if your sunbathing at the hotel but we felt sick after every time. the fruit punch is amazing! Had it everyday and the starfish knock out is a good cocktail for the ladies! Room was big and the cleaners are fab. We had a basic room with ocean view. the bed was huge! if i was going back i would not book here the pool was ok not great and the beach off the hotel was ok but there are nicer ones, if you have booked dont worry its not a bad hotel im very fussy its ok but if u want to make it just a bit more special then pay a tad more for something else!

First and foremost the hotel is clean and the staff professional in every way, sometimes a little to professional in that they seem standoffish but not unfriendly. The beach is highly disappointing as it is rocky and can only be accessed at low tide.Going down to the beach on the ramp can be dangerous.Rooms are large and well kept if a bit old in style. TV is definitely geared to a British soccer lover or the BBC.6 stations is a little weak but who came to Barbados to watch TV.Would I stay there again.Loved its proximity to Oistins for Friday Fish Fry. I loved Barbados BUT a nicer beach would have made the stay great. One last thing,a room with a view of the sea is a must as the surf makes the nights wonderful.I probably would look at hotels on the west coast BUT keep in mind there is a $$ cost relationship further up the westcoast.
