Having read other reviews on this property i was quite unsure of what we would find on arrival at Sea Breeze. However I need not have worried. Having booked with Portland Direct we saved a couple of hundred pounds each and despite all that is said about flying BWIA we had no problems. Yes you do have to pay for alcoholic drinks but on an eight hour flight it doesn t quite justify paying hundreds extra for Virgin or BA.
We had a warm welcome on arrival at the hotel and once our bags had been taken to our room, we settled in to the bar and began on the cocktail list...their curumbas are fantastic! Our room was exactly as stated in the brochure. It was a great size with a full kitchenette and was spotlessly clean. We had a great view of the beach and sea and were greatful for the chilled bottle of bubbly waiting for us. The only negative I heard people mention whilst at the hotel is the need for an update. The hotel is beautifully laid out and the gardens and beach are gorgeous. A touch of paint would really lift this property but then again the prices would no doubt rise in accordance. If you re looking for deluxe, this is not for you but if you are happy with good, clean comfortable accomodation then Sea Breeze can not fail to suit. There were quite a few Virgin guests moved to Sea Breeze due to complaints about their original hotels and all of them were happy with this hotel.
The beaches are beautiful. White sand and turquoise sea. Yes the waves can be a little rough but this is the south coast. Beach towels are complimentary and there is a great little beach bar to cool you down because the sun is gloriously hot but as the name suggests there is a constant welcome breeze. There are some non motorized water sports available and jet ski's which are great fun and reasonably priced. I know people complain about the beach vendors. Yes they do offer you just about any drug known to man but you only have to say no and yes the Bajan men do appreciate their women but it's all harmless and if you can take it in your stride you can enjoy daily chats with them and come home with some nice jewellry.
The food was great value. It's well worth going all inclusive. A la carte most nights and barbeques and buffets the other. The mermaid restaurant is great for lunch with a good menu to sift through during your stay and the evening menus were greatly varied. We never saw the same thing advertised twice. If you are a little fussy (as my partner can be) the chef will gladly prepare you something else. Drinks were equally as pleasing. There's a great choice on the all inclusive option and Oscar makes the best rum punch!
The staff were wonderful...a really friendly and hardworking bunch, keen to do all they can to help you enjoy your holiday. Oscar, Junior, Richard, Gloria and Stacia looked after us particularly well and regularly made us laugh. Because the hotel is nice and small you easily get to know the staff and the other guests.
Barbados is a fantastic holiday destination. If you can get in to Bajan time you cannot fail to relax and enjoy the delights of this great little Caribbean island. If you can bear to drag yourself away from the beach it's well worth taking a look around. Oistins on a Friday night, Harrison Caves, the rum distilleries and a trip on a catamaran to snorkle with the turtles on the west coast are all well worth a visit.
Sea Breeze is a great choice. Totally relaxing, with typically friendly Caribbean hospitality and close enough to the gap if you fancy a bit more excitement. You get what you pay for at the end of the day. If i won the lottery i would no doubt enjoy Sandy Lane, but for a very affordable and enjoyable holiday in wonderful Barbados you can't beat Sea Breeze.
