This is gonna be long....
Our first all-inclusive resort stay, and first time to Barbados. We were lucky enough to end up at The Club. Incredible views of the ocean with gorgeous beaches just to the North and South of the hotel, an easy walk. Snorkeling directly from the beach. Watersports were included with the stay: book 20 minute power boat rides or waterskiing (with captain) or a 20 minute Hobie Cat ride (with captain). Free! Also had choices of tandem or single kayaks, SUP board, snorkeling equipment. WiFi in the rooms and by the water, so we were always connected to our outside world.
Besides the perfect location and climate, the staff and fellow guests of the resort made this vacation most memorable. With four bars and two restaurants, swimming pools and plenty of sunbathing areas and a seven night stay, we couldn't help but mingle with guests and interact with staff. We had the most amazing visit, starting with easy friendly check-in, and then happened to meet Michael (security) who took it upon himself to give us a quick guided tour (and greeted us by name every day for the rest of our stay!) introducing us to Sylvester (watersports) and Cheryl (bartender). The front desk had us pre-booked for our dinner reservation and we were served by Rhea, who modestly had no idea how professional and friendly her service was. Coming from Connecticut/the NYC area, we were totally impressed by the friendly and professional staff.
The days followed with more of the same. Friendly and efficient wait staff (Odessa and Lorenzo and Amber and too many to mention, including the most accommodating management of Sunset Restaurant) and bartenders (Cheryl and Vincent in particular, but again, I can't remember all the names), amazing housekeeper who managed to clean up the sand every day (!!), the grounds staff, Jade (who sang and always had a friendly smile while constantly circling to pick up bar glasses), Heather the grill chef who fed us for days (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and all the staff who kept the food coming and drinks flowing. Wow. We took several power boat rides and booked the Hobie Cat and were so lucky to meet Charlie (and again, Sylvester, both of whom captained the boats. Wow. Very impressed with all these folks. Wish we could've personally thanked all the kitchen and back of the scenes staff who make everything run like clockwork.
We immediately began meeting fellow guests and ended up dining together with two other couples and lounging in the bar or on the chaises in the sun. Couldn't help but see some of the same faces days in a row and it was so pleasant having that connection. I'm sure if we wanted to be alone we could've done that as well. But the atmosphere is so conducive to meeting people! Rum works its magical powers there too... Demographics were a bit older crowd the first two days and immediately thereafter broadened to include younger couples as well. Nice, nice, people. Surprisingly didn't run into any obnoxious guests, the kind who occasionally can spoil moments of a vacation. (BTW, we are a gay male couple, late 50's, and felt completely comfortable with the guests and staff. We saw and met a few other gay guests as well. Treated incredibly well.)
We took a couple of the hotel guided excursions (at additional cost, in the hotel's sporty new mini-bus); one to Oistins for the Fish Festival and one to Harrison Cave. Both trips we were lucky enough to have Amir as our driver and guide. Super professional and personable. He made the drives a part of the excursion, with tour guide commentary and great humor.
The food was delicious, plentiful and fresh. Buffet breakfasts included basics like cereal, yogurt and fresh fruit, chafing dishes with hearty sides like bacon & corned beef, to grilled- to-order pancakes, brioche French toast, eggs and an omelet station. Lunches were also buffet, with many salad choices, daily fresh grilled fish or hamburgers & hotdogs, sandwich station and other specialties given the day. Dinners were mostly four course from a menu, but also occasional buffet nights and also Enid's restaurant for a more upscale, smaller dining experience. We enjoyed variety and quality and freshness.
Our room was very generous with a huge balcony/deck and very comfortable, firm bed, flat screen TV and large shower. The only negative comment we can make is that the room was a little tired--the dresser should be replaced for one thing and towels were a bit cheap. We saw a friend's renovated room so we know it wouldn't take much to improve the room we were in. And as we said, it was beautifully cleaned and made up every day.
We didn't use the spa services but did use the gym. It had older equipment but it was good variety for a circuit training workout.
We wish we could single out everyone on staff who made this a perfect vacation. We will definitely visit again.
Seems like all rooms face inward toward pool/garden or buildings directly on the water have ocean vi...
