“Happy Days”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

We were meant to be staying at another hotel but due to the regeneration work going on with the beach we were moved to The Club. I am so glad we were! We went out to celebrate my 40th birthday and the hotel couldn't have done more for us. The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We had a couple of issues on arrival but these were dealt with by the time we got back to our room from reception. We then had a fab relaxing week. We did suggest to Jade that he come over for the X-factor! Look out for him... My thanks to all the staff and to Jonathan at Complete Caribbean for making my birthday so special. We will be back!

Room Tip: Definitely go for an Ocean View room, worth the extra!

Stayed there for 3 days, quick getaway from New York. Pictures flatter the place, it is a bit run down, small hotel for an all-inclusive, which limits abilities to provide variety in food, entertainment. Food is good, just narrow choices, even though evening dinners were nice. Just comparing to monster big all-inclusives. Staff tries hard, the most friendly front desk personnel I have seen in a long while, Gilliana (believe she is front desk manager) is the most helpful, sweet person.
Tennis court is run down, only one on adjacent property, so if you don't have a partner with you, since hotel is tiny, your chances to find a match are 0. Beach was probably destroyed by last year hurricane Sandy, it's non-existent. I don't see a reason to fly to Caribbean to sit by chlorine pool, so lack of sand beach was a major for me (hotel doesn't advertise that, pictures are somewhat misleading).

Overall for $$$ I would go elsewhere next time, just imho.

Dear Valued Guests,

We thank you for your very positive remarks, especially those about our exceptionally gracious and attentive staff and your enjoyment of the menu options in our restaurants.

Since Elite Island Resorts took over management a little over one year ago the Club has enjoyed myriad upgrades ranging from lobby, restaurant and lounge renovations, new gift shop, all new sports equipment, new sun loungers, new awnings and patios on courtyard ground floor rooms, for further enjoyment of the outside environment, as well as fresh paint on all exteriors and inside guest rooms. We are also in the process installing new soft furnishings and bedding in all guest rooms for a fresh bright new look.

Again, we greatly appreciate your business and the fact that you took the time to provide us with your thoughts. We look forward to having you as our guest in the near future and to meeting and exceeding all of your expectations going forward.

The place just wasn't nice. Everything was "good enough," no luxury. To check in they made me login on their computer to my Living Social account and physically print out my voucher since they couldn't just scan it when I pulled it up on my phone. The staff was friendly but annoying as all hell. My sister and i were literally asleep by the pool after our arriving flight, and one of the employees stood over us and started chatting us up. Multiple employees tried to take us into the city. Locals are allowed on the grounds of the resort to hustle you (at other resorts i have stayed the locals selling items / services were instructed to stay off the resort).

The beach was NOT A BEACH. you cannot leave your room and walk to the front of the resort and expect to lay out. There are chairs on "sand" which feel like lumpy concrete, but there is a rock wall not a sand beach. There is a staircase to the water but if the tide comes up to the rock wall then you can't just dip your feet in you need to want to swim. I laid out on the chairs once and got pooped on by a bird. Because the beach chairs are displayed under trees that are completely swarming with black birds. Not nice tropical birds. Like crows with yellow eyes. It was gross. Twice at the restaurant we had water glasses with bird poop on them. I put my plate down at breakfast and left for the bathroom and when I came back my food was being picked at by multiple birds. I saw a review that mentioned this before my stay and I thought "OMG what a diva" but no this was out of control.

The ac wasn't working in the room for 2 of the 5 nights. The rooms were decently clean but not very modern and definitely not luxurious. The sheets were so bad that we literally woke up in pain from our sunburn pressing into the waffle pattern of the blanket. We are NOT high maintenance either - we normally rent a house for family vacay and sleep in bunk beds! And I'm 25 years old.

I just hated being on a vacay in which I wanted to leave the resort the whole entire time. We walked down to actual sand beaches (only a minute walk) and those were nice. Also the resort has literally nothing to do. The food is terrible but that didn't bother me much as I'm not a "foodie"

Dear Valued Guests,

Thank you for your comments about your recent stay at The Club Barbados. We see the gift of feedback as a way to continuously improve the guest experience in order to provide a memorable, fun-filled vacation.

Our staff is our biggest asset and we are proud to have such a dedicated group of service minded individuals working at the resort. Our guests tell us time and again how they appreciate our gracious and attentive staff who take great pride in their work and meeting and assisting guests. And, while they receive accolades for their friendly demeanor, our staff is never intrusive and respectful of our guests' privacy.

Upon check-in, guests who are not in possession of a printed voucher are asked to e-mail the voucher from their phones (via free Wi-Fi) to the hotel where we in turn print it out. This is a requirement of the hotel auditors and is made very convenient for guests once they arrive.

The Club Barbados is open for guests of the resort only. As all beaches in Barbados are public, guests will encounter local residents on the beach.

Since Elite Island Resorts took over management of the property over one year ago numerous upgrades have been made. At present, we are in the process of upgrading all the soft furnishings in all rooms for a brighter more refreshed look and feel.

It is quite unfortunate that the myriad of concerns you had with your stay were not brought to management's attention prior to your departure as we are very confident that we could have resolved any of your concerns. We do hope the next time you seek the sun, you will allow The Club Barbados to create a timeless memory for you and your family.

Had a great time while in Barbados, but this resort could use a little work. The friendly staff REALLY helps what the resort lacks in amenities, limited dinner options, etc. So let me start on all the good things. The resort is in a beautiful location. We were upgraded to an ocean view room. The front desk staff was EXCELLENT! The food is very good and a nice blend of local menu options. Some of the nightly entertainment (i.e. the group “The Project”) was very good. Easy access to get out and see the island (local bus is only US$1.00 to go anywhere on the island). The island is very safe and was easy to travel into town and to other shopping areas. Lots of options for excursions and/or water sports. When we slept in and went down to the one common area for the breakfast the (around 9:45am) the staff kept the buffet open for us when breakfast ended at 10am and they made sure we were able to enjoy the entire breakfast buffet. No rush to move us out. The resort was somewhat clean with the exception of near the pool smoking section. The front desk team was quick, professional, and nice! Ok, now for the negatives, there are 4 bars on the resort and none of them had premium liquors. The bourbon tasted very watered down. All the smokers on the resort hung out by the nicest area of the pool and there were piles of cigarette butts all around the edge of the pool. No open dining…you had to always make reservations for dinner every night. I wish they had a coffee shop or beach grill in case you don’t feel like dressing up for dinner. A place to get sandwiches, or snacks would be great. No dinner options after 8:30pm unless you go off the resort. Even though we had an ocean view room we were on the 4th floor and there were no elevators. During breakfast and lunch buffet the outside common dining area was filled with birds flying from table to table drinking out of the water glasses, wine glasses, eating off plates. The primary age group on this resort was 55 to 65 yrs old. Pool area grass was not cut (grass up to my knees) and mixed in w/ trash. Only two areas to eat on the resort for dinner, we spend 6 days here so after day 3 we at off the resort. Since we were on the 4th floor of our unit the housekeeping staff didn’t clean our rooms until after 4pm each day. We had to ask for fresh towels each day to wash and prepare for dinner. 4 days out of the 6 days the housekeeper only left 1 wash cloth and 1 towel for me and my wife. It was a pain to have to ask for enough towels for two people each day. Last night on the resort the island had a power outage for over 4 hours. The power came back on for a little over 45 minutes then went out again for another 3 hours (This was not in the resorts control and we heard it was pretty common on the island). We had to pack our clothes in the dark and shower in the dark on the last day. The resort did provide candles.

Overall, this resort was average. My wife and I have been to other All-Inclusive resorts (Sandals, Excellence, Couples, etc. and different locations in the Caribbean) all of which are a few steps up from The Club. We would have liked to have more options for dining on the resort. (A third and/or fourth dinner option) and/or maybe some type of late night grill or evening bar that served food, snack or sandwiches. Even though the staff was very nice we definitely would not return to this resort. If not for the staff at the resort the trip may have been a total bust. Definitely would have liked to have had a few premium brand liquors. I was thankful to try all the local rums, but sure would have loved a premium Vodka, Scotch, Bourbon, Tequila, or Cognac. This resort is really for retired/seniors traveler, first time All-Inclusive travels on a budget. The evening entertainment was very slow and/or nonexistent on some days. Also, I hate to spend thousands to go to the Caribbean and you end up spending an additional $500-$1,200 on other meal options. My suggestion would be to try the Crane or the new Couples Resort. If you go to any of the shopping areas around the resort or in Bridgetown you can purchase a day pass at a nicer resort for approx US $25. Good luck!

Room Tip: Do ocean front...great to wake up to the waves.

The Club Barbados has two restaurants and three bars where premium liquor is served. The Sunset Restaurant offers oceanfront dining serving international favorites, local specialties, delicious desserts and favorite cocktails. The restaurant is open until 10PM every evening with the last seating at 9:30 for al la carte dinners. Our other restaurant, Enid's, features classic Caribbean Cuisine in a colorful Bajan atmosphere which is open for dinner and special events five nights per week. A British-style high tea is elegantly served every afternoon from 3:00 to 4:30p.m. at the Sunset Restaurant.

It is quite unfortunate that the issues you had with your stay were not brought to management's attention prior to your departure as we are very confident that we could have resolved any of your concerns.

We host hundreds of guests every week who overwhelmingly enjoy all aspects of the hotel especially our gracious and hospitable staff.

We do hope when considering a sun and fun-filled Caribbean vacation we can welcome you again.

We are 3 ladies just returned from a dream holiday at The Club hotel to celebrate our friends 40th birthday. We had read the reviews as one does, which were mixed. The comments on tiredness and needing updating are a bit harsh. This is after all the Caribbean, not the centre of London. The stars cannot be compared. When you arrive you receive a glass of rum punch whilst you are waiting for check in, which was very smooth and pleasant. The greeting you receive from all the bajans is so refreshing. Our room was ocean facing and if you can request this and pay a little extra it's breathtaking. It was to our delight a suite. Towels changed daily, the food was plentiful and very tasty. Yes, there were a day or two when the evening meal was repeated but so what! Breakfast was in the sunset restaurant which overlooked the sea. Wide choice from cooked breakfast, cereals, fresh fruit, cakes and toast, freshly cooked pancakes and an egg counter cooking every possible egg dish you can think of. Lunch was buffet, again with choice of hot or cold dishes. Dinner in the evening consisted of a 3 course meal from the menu, again very pleasant. If you are still hungry in the afternoon the bar serve the most delicious fresh wraps, club sandwiches etc. There is evening entertainment every night. These were not West End performances but for goodness sake they started during dining hours and it was quite pleasant hearing the steel band in the background, or the girls singing and giving us a lesson in showing us how to dance Caribbean style. As for the traveller complaining about the pools, why would you want to sit round a pool all day when the most amazing beach is a two minute walk away? There a water sports on offer, we had a trip in a speedboat, catamaran, paddle boarding, jet skiing, snorkelling. There is also a very adequate gym and a spa which gave us a lovely massage. As for my friends birthday we were given a special table covered in flowers, the waitresses all sang to her, she was presented with a bottle of champagne in our room and all day long they made a huge fuss of her. Would we return? Almost definitely with our others halves next time!

Room Tip: Ocean front if you can go that little extra

Very slow service.Got the feeling staff were unhappy with life.Sometimes 2 hours for evening meals.Only one bar person. No hot water for 7 of days. Not worth upgrading to ocean view. Up 33 steps and no balcony.

Room Tip: Choose a basic room with balcony.
