“Nice place, but not really worth the price”

Almond Beach Club & Spa

Apr 26, 2008

I went to this resort some time back, but it seems from the reviews here that little has changed.

The staff were very friendly to me and had nice touches such as greeting guests with Barbados' signature Rum Punch. The grounds were absolutely stunning with the vast array of flora in bloom. Meals were excellent and there was no lack of food or selection. The free beverages were on the small side, but being all-inclusive and leaving tips for the staff meant that you could get your fill with no problem whatsoever. I used a Sunfish available to guests and it was very fun and in good shape. A staffmember even motored out to check on me to ensure I was not lost or in trouble (I guess they are used to total novices borrowing the equipment - which is nuts in the open sea IMHO). The piano bar was something straight out of Casablanca. It was a great way to imbibe through the late evening and mingle with folks from all over the world.

The room I was in was on the top (4th) floor on the waterfront. It was a good size, but certainly showing its age. The bathroom fixtures were badly tarnished and the bathroom itself was very poorly lit. The bed was wonderful and the sound of the sea was all I needed to make the room quite good, if not great in and of itself.

We went to the hotel for my sisters wedding. On arrival, not all the rooms were ready (3pm), but this was only a 15 minute wait max, and instead they supplied a rum punch to greet us. Once in the rooms they were neat and comfortable. On discussing the rooms with others in our party, it was evident that the rooms differed quite a bit. It was only small things, but they would have made a big difference. Two of our rooms had no fridge, and only one curtain, which was an issue with the amount of midgies getting in. My wardrobe door was rather wonky, so didn't shut well.
Food was good, but the restauants were often fully booked, leaving only the main restaurant to eat in, although this was still good. I recommend you book up for the week once there if you would like to try the other restaurants. Much of the food is variation on a theme, and you can eat fried breakfasts and burgers all week, or chose from the varying buffet or menu. Fish, meat, veg, fruit, some local food and plenty of water, tea, coffee, wine or other alcohol available.
My sister chose to get married at the sugar mill at the sister resort. The mill was stunning, and the wedding day well organised. However, my sister had pre-booked this along with a meal months in advance, and she was told on the wedding day that she could not have the meal until a few days later which was too late for some of us, as I could only stay 7 out of the 10 days. My sister chose to cancel it, but they managed to seat us as an 11 at the barbeque that evening.
The water and power were switched off a couple of times with no warning or notice, and my parents toilet was repeatedly blocked (not their doing!).
Although some towels were out on the sun loungers by 4am (yes, I think thats the earliest I've ever seen!) there were still plenty of sunloungers available later in the day. The inclusive water sports were great, although staff mood varied.
I did enjoy the stay. I would however rate this resort as a 3 star, not 4. By the end of the stay the staff warmed to you. At first they can seem quite rude or off hand, but this mellowed with time. Having not stayed anywhere else in Barbados, I could not compare with the other resorts on the island. Not the best hotel I have stayed in, although not the worst and I would perhaps read the reviews before booking anywhere myself in future.

“Rooms not up to scratch for Barbados!”

The food was excellent, some of the staff were lovely, others were miserable. Pool area is nice. The rooms are the biggest disappointment of all, especially as they advertise the rooms as being refurbished. NOT! They seriously need to close this hotel while they sort the rooms out, some people said that some rooms had been refurbished but others said they still wern't great. I have stayed in Barbados 4 times now and in 3 different hotels, this was the worst out of them. Such a shame when people are paying thousands of pounds to stay here. My sister is on her honeymoon here at the moment and has asked to be moved to another hotel as she was sooooooooooooo disappointed with her room! 1 night here was enough for her...........

“Excellent resort with very freindly staff”

Almond Beach Club & Spa

This was our 25th visit to Barbados and we have stayed in several Hotels on the island from Sandy Lane and Cobblers Cove down to Silver Sands on the south coast.
This resort was not our first choice as the resort we wanted was fully booked so we booked this at the last minute principally because of its location.
The Hotel is excellent with exceptionally freindly staff.
There ARE three restaurants (although one is outsisde) and three bars and I really don't understand the very negative review on this site.
The food was first rate in quality and genuinely compares with some of the best cuisine on the island. You will certainly never be dissapointed with the quantity!
The bedroom we had was extremely comfortable and very well appointed although the bathroom was a bit dated. This is very typical of nearly all Hotels in Barbarbados so don't be put off by this minor flaw.
Overall I would strongly reccomend this Hotel to anyone who wants a children free, thoroughly enjoyable holiday in a superb location in the best part of the island.
An Hotel we would definately return to.

“Excellent holiday at the Almond Beach Club”

Almond Beach Club & Spa

Excellent location and friendly staff. Very good food choice and quality. Rooms clean and comfortable but please be aware that this is a Caribbean beach hotel and do not expect Sandly Lane or Hilton standards (or prices!).
The superb Sandy Lane public beach is actually less than 100 meters away and the Sandy Lane Hotel is about 2000 meters from the Almond.
I enjoyed a very relaxing holiday and my wife and I were very well looked after by the staff who appreciate being treated with respect.
