My Wife and I spent a week away from the kids at Mango Bay at the end of February. We had a fabulous time and I can only echo the numerous positive reviews that this hotel has had on Trip Advisor. After a rather bumpy flight we were met by our Virgin rep and after a short delay we were allocated to our taxi and arrived at the hotel at approx 7pm. We were met by friendly staff and given a guided tour of the complex before being shown upto our room. This is not a large hotel by Barbados standards which means you tend to see the same people at meals and make friends easily. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff cannot do enough for you. We paid a bit extra for an ocean view room and were lucky enough to be upgraded to one of two Penthouse suites. It was not until the next morning when the sun was up that we realised the full beauty of the location and the views across the bay. The room was great with own plunge pool but I wouldn't have paid the $2500 per night that they advertise on the website for these rooms. The shower had a tendency to flood as did the fancy sinks that dribbled and flooded the bathroom on one occassion. The bubbles in the plunge pool had a mind of there own and were quite noisy for our room and rooms underneath. Having said this the flat screen plasma tv in the lounge and bedroom made up for this. I would definitely recommend spending a bit more for a ocean view as you are away from the outside pubs and clubs, that can be noisy at weekends, which are right next to the standard accommodation. However the sound of the sea does take some getting used to. The weather was fantastic, with temp of mid 80's all week with a cool breeze and the odd bit of cloud cover. We had a few showers but with 30 mins the sun was out again. We went armed with mosquito spray but did not find them a problem at all, probably due to the time of year we went but watch out for the sand fleas. They bite too.

The meals come thick and fast and although the portions are not huge I never felt hungry. You could have three courses at lunch and dinner as well as afternoon tea if you wanted. It wasn't fine cuisine but it was very acceptable with free wine as much as you wanted. You do have to book your meals and I would recommend booking the following days time when you leave the restaurant to avoid eating very early or very late.

The facilities are ok, with a pool, guest room with satellite tv and free internet access. The beach is narrow and the sun beds are close together, and despite the new rules people were down early with towels so be warned. I would also recommend the free trips that the hotel lays on. The glass bottom boat and the catamaran trips were well worth it although we found Bridgetown a bit of a let down. I would also recommend the jeep safari which isn't free but it will show you most of the island in 6 hours.

Overall we had a great time in Barbados which is paradise. This hotel is not for families with kids, but for people wanting to relax in good surroundings, with friendly staff you can't go wrong at Mango Bay.

“Fantastic Hotel”

The Mango Bay is a fantastic hotel in an excellent location, great food and cocktails, friendly staff and large comfortable rooms. We could not fault the food, 3 course lunches and dinners, fantastic choice for breakfast and even afternoon tea at 4.30pm if you really felt hungry! You never had to ask for more drinks with meals your wine, beer, water was always topped up before you had to ask. The staff were extremely helpful and the rooms were clean with bed turned down and chocolates on your pillow every night. The bedding and towels were changed as often as you wanted and beach towels were provided and changed every day. There was entertainment each night although some groups were better than others, but it was nice to sit and listen to the music sipping a cocktail listening to the sound of the sea!

The only criticisms we have are that although we booked a deluxe room which overlooked the pool, we still heard noise at night from the local bars and restaurants and sometimes this was extremely loud. Although the hotel has a policy of not allowing you to reserve sunbeds this was not enforced and some people were down at 6.30am reserving the best sunbeds on the decking by the beach and by the pool !!! The beach was really nice but was extremely narrow when the tide was in (which seemed to be most of the time while we were there).

The swamp next to the hotel caused no problems and did not smell as others have suggested, although best to take your mosquito spray just in case. We had great weather with just a couple of showers but rather a large downpour on the day we left for about an hour, but this did not bother us as we were going home!

The hotel provide a number of trips - would recommend the catamaran cruise and swimming with the turtles (fantastic experience), the Bridgetown trip was ok if you like duty free shopping but watch out for people asking for money. Glass bottom boat trip was ok but you do not get to see much.

We loved the hotel and would definitely go back, we would highly recommend the Mango Bay to anyone.

“Fantastic little hotel”

Mango Bay Resort

I stayed here with my husband, 2 year old and baby the 1st two weeks of December and we all had a great time.
As the hotel is small compared to other all inclusives on the island there is a really nice personal feel. The staff get to know you very quickly and and are generally all very friendly and helpful.
This is not a 5 star hotel but there is nothing that can be really faulted. It's location is great as it is in town but you would never know that as there is no noise but you have shops, restaurants and bars on your doorstep.
We stayed in a superior room which was very nice. The standard rooms did look a little tired, The beach is beautiful and there are plenty of sunloungers. The free watersports are great and the water-skiing is such fun, even for beginners.
The food was all very nice and perfectly edible with lots of choice. It was nice to have a la carte most nights as opposed to buffets. You book lunch and dinner slots every mornign during breakfast so that was very easy. The bar is quite small but friendly and is open until 11 or 12. There is live music by different groups every night and, for the most part, these were very good. Most of the guests were from the UK with a few Americans, Canadians and others.
For families, the pool is not too deep and always with a few balls, inflatables to pay with. There were high chairs and the staff seem to enjoy being with children. The beach is clean and shallow and the waves are very gentle - apart from the storm we had when we were there. Not too many mosquitoes either.
One worry I had was the marshy bit next to the hotel but it turned out ot be quite nice as there is a little bit of wildlife there and even after quite a lot of rain it never overflowed.
This is a very nice little hotel in a good location. Go ahead and book and enjoy yourselves!

“Fantastic Hotel”

Mango Bay Resort

Mar 25, 2008

Mango Bay is a great hotel. We really enjoyed our week there and thought that the quality of the hotel and the service we received were fantastic.

The staff go out of their way to make you happy and this starts as soon as you arrive. We were handed a glass of rum punch and given a tour of the hotel.

Our room (4th Floor) was a superior room and I understand that the 4th floor was only added a couple of years ago so had a very new feel to it. The room was very large by UK hotel standards and had a Kingsized bed, writing table and chair, armchair and cabinet containing Tv ( News/sports/movies) and a fridge. The bathroom was also large with powerful shower.

Meals at the hotel were of a high standard. Buffer breakfast (All the usuals eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans, croissants, toast, cereals and fruit). This could be taken from 7-10am with no booking required.

Lunch was either 3 course or occassionally buffet whilst dinner was 3 course on 5 nights, buffet on one and barbeque on one. Almost everyone we spoke to at the hotel was complimentary about the food. It really does feel like you are eating out in a restaurant every night and the location right by the sea is fantastic. All 3 course meals are waiter served and you never feel rushed as both lunch and dinner need to be booked.

Whilst the website says that you must wear long sleeved shirts for dinner, this is not actually the case as many wore short sleeved shirts or polo shirts. I did not see anyone wearing Jeans though although I did see a notice saying smart Jeans would be allowed..

For those who need more food there was also afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes at arounfd 4.30pm.

The wine served with the food is topped up regularly and is good quality.

The bar was a good place to escape the daytime sun and serves all types of branded drinks and cocktails. Service was fine and the hotel was full when we were there. The bar is open until midnight with very good nightly entertainment from various local bands.

The hotel is right on the beach and whilst the beach is quite narrow, it is adequate. The beach had to close for 4 days whilst we were there due to the unusually high waves on the west cost which meant swimming was dangerous. The hotel kept people fully informed of the situation though. The sea was lovely and warm on the 2 days we could go in it.

The pool is also nice and warm and fairly large. With the beach closed, space for sunbeds was at a premium although there are plenty of sunbeds available. The best spots were usually reserved as early as 7am but most people are up and about by 8 though as it is already very warm and sunny by that time. We had no problem getting an umbrella when we needed one.

The hotel also has free catamarran trips and glass bottom boat trips. We did the Cat one and they take you to see the turtles where you can snorkel if you want to or just relax on board.

Holetown has a shopping centre and supermarket within walking distance and is very safe.

The noise from the local bars can be a bit annoying especially if you arrive on a Sunday and are shattered but it was only loud that night and would only really affect you if you were allocated a standard room which were in the block backing onto the local street.

We were given a standard room to shower in on our final day and I think that if you can afford to it is well worth paying the extra for a superior room as there is a noticeable difference between the two.

All in all a very good hotel.
