My wife and I have two kids under 6, we have been married for 10 years and this is really the first chance we have had to get away - just the two of us. Why the first time in 10 years? Because of cirumstances we couldn't control and also because I am one cheap dude and sitting around doing nothing drives me nuts.
That being said, we had a real good time. My wife loved it and I was served drinks fast enough to keep me from climbing the walls.
I was a U.S. Marine in a prior life and I have done my fair share of traveling. The Bajan people are some of the finest, most friendly folks I have ever encountered. The West side of the Island (Caribbean side) is very beautiful and perfect for water play. I would strongly recommend the "swimming with the turtle trip" (either with the glass bottom boat or on the cattameran) The cattameran is an absolute blast.
Crystal Cove was a good bargain for what it cost. The rooms were clean, a few ants but nothing major in the rooms. The pools were nice and so was the beach. There were a few irritations on the beach with peddlers and so forth but nothing major. All you have to do is say no, go away. The food was very good. I could have skipped 3 days worth of food when we got home and still not been hungry.
Although not a deal breaker, the service in the mixed drinks was slow as I saw in other reviews. They would serve you in glasses, mugs or little tiny plastic cups ( I guess depending on how you were dressed). Obviously they didn't want glass containers on the beach but the plastic cups were ridiculously small, it took quite some time to make and god help you if there was a line, and two gulps and it was gone. That being said, I'm a patient guy and they lost a lot of money on the drinks on me!
We are American and one thing I really noticed at this resort was the lack of Americans when we were there. Mostly Brits and Irish. Clearly they didn't specialize in coffee for breakfast as it was poor. I'm sure the tea was great. I was thinking I missed Americans until I got back to the departure gate at the Barbados airport and was surrounded by a bunch of American teenagers. At that point I realized I preferred Brits and Irish !
Anyway - we'll go back. Take Care.
