We like to take some kind of boat trip on holiday and this one ranks as one of the very best! Collected in person by one of the owners of 'Second Chance', Rebecca, from our hotel by taxi and taken to Speightstown to pick up the boat, it was immediately clear to us that this was definitely one up on the trek into Bridgetown required to meet up with most boats who ply their trade up the west coast. Additionally, you are then sailing counter to the rest, who are going north, so the sea is much more your own.
From the moment we arrived on board and were presented with the first drink of the day, ( all drinks are included, which is unusual), Rebecca and Ryan and their wonderful sidekick, Gregory, went out of their way to provide us with a perfect day in every way, from the immaculate boat and its accoutrements ( comfortable, cushioned seats, plenty of shade, pre-allocated restrooms for men and women - and Waitrose soap in the loo, to our amazement!), to the delicious, freshly-prepared and cooked food. Most of the boats take with them pre-cooked food that requires only reheating, but for flavour and goodness, nothing beats a barbecued lunch cooked from scratch in the open air. On booking, you make a choice between fish, shrimps and various meats, so Rebecca can buy it specially for you,
His expert knowledge of the coast enabled Ryan to keep ahead of lowering clouds and allow us lovely sunshine for our snorkelling stops. The 'turtle stop' was especially great: all the boats in the area will stop around here to feed and admire the turtles, but Gregory, who obviously loves the animals, especially his favourite, Marcus. led them skilfully towards us so we weren't crowded by the much more heavily populated boats who were enjoying the moment too.
Which brings me on the best thing of all: Rebecca and Ryan's boat only ever takes up to 12 people (we were only 7), which makes for space, total peace and relaxation - and to top it all, Ryan really does SAIL the boat whenever it's at all possible, not just turn on the motor as so many do; so it's quiet and smell-free, too. Compare this with the boats we saw that were crammed with passengers, it seemed, to the gunwales, and yet we were told they 'weren't actually very crowded'! Ok, so our trip cost a little more than some, but boy, was it worth it! You don't go on holiday every day, so I hope you will excuse the pun if I say 'push the boat out and book with Ryan and Rebecca' You won't regret it!
