“Great for what we wanted”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

My partner and I just returned from a 5 night stay at Paradise Villas. We had a wonderful time in Barbados, and this guesthouse suited our needs perfectly. We were looking for budget-friendly accommodations in St. James near a friend we were visiting. Our room was very well kept by the house keeping staff and it was larger than I expected. We had a bedroom (with two twins pushed together to make a king) a moderate sized bathroom, a small kitchenette with all the utensils and pots needed, a nice sized living room/dining area for two people and a modest terrace with a few chairs and a table. From our bedroom windows we could lookout over the ocean and the terrace overlooked the courtyard of the hotel. The other guests seemed quiet and we were mainly undisturbed while there. There a small convenience store within walking distance where you can get som basic groceieries too. My only complaints are that the wireless internet only worked on 1 of our 5 days and that on Friday and Saturday night there were some loud neighbors in the house next to ours. I spoke with the innkeeper about both these concerns and she was in the process of addressing them. As for beach access, it is a short walk to an underwhelming beach. Of course the views of the ocean are great and swimming is safe there, but on the landside of the beach is a large area of abandoned or under-construction hotels. In fact, you must walk through one of these abandoned hotel lots to get to the beach. For us it was a nice spot to walk down to in the morning, and there is plenty of beach to stroll along for an hour or so in the morning and have a swim, but if you want an idyllic beach to set up at for the day - this is probably not it. If you need to be near the University, or have budget as a main concern this is a great place. Clean, friendly staff, and affordable.

Room Tip: Some rooms are closer to the highway - so if traffic noise is a concern request one farther away fro...

“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2012

We stayed here for a month on study abroad. The apartments are nice and spacious with a great view of the Caribbean. The beach is only a couple hundred yards away. The grounds are well kept, and there is a bank and convenience store both within walking distance. There is a taxi stand next door, and a bus stop (to and out of city) across the street. The maids were very friendly! The only thing that could be better is the internet speed, but there are so many things to do nearby that it isn't necessary to be on the internet! Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: B4 is nice and has a great view, as does the villa.

“Great place in the right location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2009

We had a wonderful time there. We were a group of 18 adults and children. Some of us have been there before, but there were a few of us that traveled to Barbados for the first time. The island is beautiful. The villas are walking distance from the beach and we took advantage of that almost every day. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The friendly staff was there every morning to clean the rooms. There were a couple of minor problems with one or two of the rooms, but they were corrected quickly and without any complaint from the manager. She was great. The staff is very courteous and friendly.

The villa is within walking distance from grocery stores, restaurants, shops and a short enough drive from shopping. We felt very safe walking in that area at night also. The balcony was great for having breakfast or relaxing at night enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Each one of of enjoyed our stay and the children were not ready to leave. It was definately a good choice.

“Great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2009

Have been to Barbados many times since 1989--generally to stay at ny time share in Sunset Crest. However, when I started a study abroad program there in 2005, Paradise Villas was recommended as an ideal site for our students. Access to the bus line and taxi stand made it ideal for them when they wanted to get around.

The beach is close. Yes, there are derelict buildings around but it is an area undergoing transformation. When the Four Seasons opens next door, I am sure they will clean up the beach even more. Students loved the option of walking down the hill to the beach. They also understood that the concept of "paradise" is relative...so they were able to look past the derelict buildings, the power station and the cruise ships and simply enjoyed the lure of the sea.

They reported that they felt that the units were very comfortable; they valued the sense of community they established with the staff and taxi drivers. They learned to use the bus system to go into Bridgetown, to the Gap and even to Oistins. They do not feel they were disadvantaged because they did not live in the Gap; in fact, they felt that living in the Gap would be a distraction from their real purpose for being there--learning about the culture and engaging in service-learning placements.

In all three programs (2005; 2007; 2009), students reported that they were glad we stayed there.

“The best place to stay in Barbados!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2008

I had to spend a week in Barbados for business less than two months after my baby was born. I was very hesistant traveling to a third world country with a newborn. Paradise Villas was a dream. I stayed in the suite type cottage which was about 15 feet from the caribbean ocean (a perfect swimming beach). The room was very spacious and clean with a full bathroom and kitchenette. There is an ac but I found it best to leave the window open and get the breeze from the ocean. Even with the windows shut you can hear the waves (which were perfect to lull a newborn to sleep!). There is a grass courtyard with lounge chairs for sunbathing and the cottage had a private porch with cusioned benches and chairs-- perfect for watching the sunrise and having coffee!

Christine, the owner, was amazing and we were treated like family. When our flight back was canceled and we were laid over in Barbados for an extra day—I called to inquire about getting the cottage again for the night for the layover. Not only were we accommodated for the extra night at short notice but Paradise Villas volunteered to come and pick us back up from the airport. What I had feared to be a nightmare of a business trip will be remembered fondly as a great vacation. I would recommend this property to anyone and will certainly be heading back soon!

On a side note about Barbados--- the traffic is similar to a big city--- NYC OR LA, I have never seen an island with a fraction of the traffic. I have driven on the left side of the road in London quite a few times but narrow roads and crazy round-abouts make it extremely difficult for American drivers in Barbados. I heard about two traffic accidents with Americans and rental cars just in the week I was there. The island is not that large and cabs are easy to come by. I would highly suggest rethinking the expensive Bajan car rentals and just cab it
