“Second time just as good at The Reefs!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2009

DH & I checked into point suite #339- Bay Grapes on 11/5. First the good: The Reefs is a fabulous place to relax and spend some quality time with someone you love. The service is first rate, the food is great, the atmosphere is casual yet elegant and the views are to die for thru out the resort. Fabulous location in Southhampton with easy access to both the bus and scooter rental. Construction is all finished next door. We toured 'The Reefs Club" and I must say it is beautiful. Next time I would ask another couple to join us and stay threre if they are still availabale for rental. Absolutely gorgeous no expense spared here!
Now the bad: I was somewhat disapointted with the point suite, I was expecting a 2 rooms suite. The room was a big room with a sitting area with a sofa and chair and a king bed facing out towards the balcony. It had a large bath with a jacuzzi tub- seperate single glass shower with a rainshower, double granite vanity and a seperate makeup area. I agree with previous posters that the decor in the room is a liitle faded- our rug was badly stained as was a uphosltersed bench at the foot of the bed, we had a few burnt out lights and the hot tub on the balcony had a mind of it's own- it worked fine but there were no instructions and you nedded to punch a sequebnce of buttons to get it to turn on or off ( ie; push the temp button twice and then the light button) so for the entire time we were there it ran and ran which got irratating after a awhile. We called the first hour we were in the room and a maintence man came to investigate promptly- the only thing was he put water in and claimed it was all fixed-the morning we were checking out another maintenace man showed up and told us how to actually sequence the buttons so it worked properly- a little late. They just need to put instructions in the room and everyone could figure it out. The balcony was very large and had a chaise and 2 chairs with a table. Last year we stayed in a horizon Jr Suite- for the difference in $$ I would stay there again over a point suite-JMHO.
2 highlights of the trip were a in room couples massage by two of the most talented and professional therapists from La Serena Spa- absolutely heaven on earth and playing golf at the newly opened Port Royal Golf Course- beautiful and very challenging. If you go they have great off season special on Mondays between 10-2. We paid $312 which included 2- 18 hole rounds, a cart, we forgot gloves so we had to buy 2 and 2 sets of brand new taylor made rental clubs. Anyone who knows about resort golf knows thats a GREAT deal.
All in all we had a great stay at The Reefs and will gladly return next year- we love Bermuda, it's people and scenery.

This was our fifth stay, our eleventh to Bermuda. We usually dine around the island, but this time we elected the meal plan. We weren't disappointed. I've said before and I still believe they have the best food of any hotel in Bermuda.

Service has always been first class. The staff is friendly, professional and helpful. Management often makes themselves available to the guests, and seeks their opinions.

The location is beautiful, the hotel is built on a cliff above a private beach. Transportation is easily accessible.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable spot to stay in Bermuda.

My wife and I were looking to get away for a long weekend in Bermuda without children. The Reefs was a perfect place for us. We stayed in a Horizon Junior Suite. The room was well-equipped and a nice size for a couple. It was on top of a cliff with a private balcony and great sunset views over the ocean. The Reefs has a well-maintained private beach. There is a restaurant and bar just upstairs from the beach (Coconuts), which serves very good lunches and dinners. Breakfast each morning was served at another restaurant on property (I believe Ocean Echo). We were generally impressed with the food at both restaurants.

The location in Southampton is near many famous beaches but is not near any towns. We rented a scooter, however, so getting around the island was not a problem. There also appears to be a bus stop across the street. There is a nice pub (Henry VIII) within walking distance.

Overall, we were quite happy with the facilities, service and location. It is a great place for a couple or group of friends to stay. While we did see some children there, it appeared that most guests were couples or groups of adult friends.

This was our 8th trip to The Reefs. This is the best beach hotel in Bermuda, beautiful, great beach, lovely pool, fantastic restaurants (Coconuts especially).

The problem on our last trip was the staff. Some of the staff were outstanding and fantastic (especially the Romanian female wait staff, consistently great). The problem is everyone else. For instance, the person who checked us in did not seem to care that we just landed after a long and exhausting flight. She talked and talked, telling us things we did not need to know and forgetting to give us our keys, forgetting to tell us our room number, forgetting to take our credit card, etc., etc. It was Chinese drip torture. That was just the beginning of bad service. I could truly go on and on about it.

The rooms are beautiful. They need to be updated, but we don't really care. The spa was great.

They have to stop hiring incompetent staff, we never knew whether to expect someone semi-hostile, semi-clueless, or totally competent. Made us wary and unable to truly relax.

My family has visited Bermuda since 1968....We have been Reefs Regulars over 25 times! We come in August for vacation and I visit often for business.................

The Reefs is an extraordinary esperience.. Great food, rooms that are just fine....if you need 800 count sheets and a butler...go elsewhere! This great and wonderful place is
the centrum of hospitality.... A solid staff...attention to detail...but if you expect and want a
24/7 butler go somewhere else...

Most of us who love and go to The Reefs spend our business lives in Town Cars and Premium cabins or the occasionl G-4.......

We work that hard to escape to a great place that is just that great!!!!

Yes,the Housekeeper that runs The Reefs may have grandchildren at John Hopkins...

Your cab driver may have a son at Yale,a daughter at Brown, and may be an early stage investor in a start up in micro finance!

This is Bermuda...A special place... A place that will be my family's favorite for a very long
time....

Welcome to Bermuda....If you have a problem here...enjoy Punta Cana or Nassau....

If you really need a marble bathroom with six water ports n a steam shower ensuite..
call your plumber..and skip a vacation at THE REEFS!

This was our 6th stay at the Reefs and it is badly in need of refurbishment. It looks like so much money was put into the Reefs Club, that they could not afford to fix up the hotel rooms. The bathrooms have not chnaged significantly since we started to go there in the 70's.We always cut them some slack for less than 4 star rooms because the service and location (beach) were so exceptional, however, on this trip the service was not very good either. The location, of course, doesn't change and continues to be the best hotel beach in Bermuda, in our opinion. The food service was average at best and no where near the outstanding quality we have had in the past.
That being said, the Pros are:
1- Great Beach
2- Beautiful location
3- Excellent Spa
4- Clean rooms
The Cons are:
1. Outdated bathrooms
2. Uncomfortable pool side furniture
3. Allow infants in pool
4. Limited food selection
5. Unacceptable food service quality.
6. Loud air conditioners
7. Exterior starting to look shoddy- dinged doors and stucco.

My wife and I stayed at the Reefs last fall. Our room overlooked a gorgeous pink sand beach. While it not a huge resort in terms of rooms or property, the staff goes out of there way to ensure that you are having a pleasant stay. Everyone from the cleaning staff to the dining staff made the whole experience first class. It was our first time to Bermuda and this resort seemed to cater towards an older crowd, but that didn't really bother us. It was a great time to get away and be alone.
