I just returned to the UK today after a wonderful 4 day break to Bermuda.

First time to the island and I loved it! After taking the breathtaking journey from the airport, I think I could have been staying in a beach hut and I would have enjoyed it, but after arriving at the top of the sweeping drive to the Fairmont Southampton and being greeted by the wonderful Clifton, I knew we would have a great time.

The hotel was much nicer than I was expecting after reading some of the reviews on here. I would just like to reassure other travellers that this is a great hotel, the service is fantastic and the setting just splendid.

We stayed on the 6th floor, the Fairmont Gold floor and were spoilt by the fantastic Lionel & Orlando. The view from our room was amazing and the facilities / amenities were perfect - we could not have asked for any more.

My only gripe was in the Gold Lounge, when the time came to clear away afternoon tea and the Hors D'ouevres (4.30 and 7 respectively) - they literally did swipe everything in, I found this to be a little harsh and not typical of the otherwise good service. One evening I was taking some cheese to have with my wine and the basket of bread/crackers was taken away as I was taking some cheese!

The beach was gorgeous, the pool was pleasant, the boat trip to the Hamilton Princess was well worth it as the pool there was lovely also. The shuttles were never full and easy to pick up and the restaurants were fantastic and good value for money, my favourite was the Waterlot Inn - Lovely steaks!

There was a nightclub on site called the Cellar which was fun, and served its purpose being open till 3am. Myself, Husband and another couple (friends of ours) had such a good time, we will definately return.

As a stiff upper lipped Brit, the only downside for me was the huge number of our friends from across the pond who were there, particularly part of conference groups. I found many people to be rude to the staff and not at all courteous which did upset me a little - this is nothing against the yanks, I was obviously just unlucky to see this!! Understandably, if we were only a 2 hour flight away, I'm sure there would be plenty of us invading the Island too! (ever visited Spain??!) I just can't stand arrogant people, and it became apparent that the island was a bit of a 'Rich Americans Playground' which was unfortunate from the manners aspect! Like I say, this was probably unfortunate on my part and did not spoil our overall enjoyment of the holiday.

Please give this hotel a try, it is a great property and you won't be dissapointed!

The Fairmont Southampton is a very nice hotel. I expected much more service and I guess value (i.e business services, price for drinks / food), when you consider how much we paid per night. The Southampton covers an area from the ocean to the bay. It is a little out of the way which means you need to use taxis or buses to get around the island. You are not within walking distance to other restaurants, stores, etc. Do become familiar with the public transportation system. It is reasonable, clean and the bus/ferry personnel are very helpful. I wish we had seen the previous post regarding the refrigerator, but we had already left for our trip. The only refrigerator in our room was the honor bar which was full of the hotel items leaving very little room for our own. So here's my gripe. If you are charging me $400 per night, do you really need to gouge me $16 for a Turkey wrap sandwich, $4 for a small plastic cup of Coke with lots of ice, $7.50 for a Miller Light, charge me for internet service, $170 for an hour massage (which we didn't do), not allow use of the indoor swimming pool until the evening because spa guests use it during the day, and no free newspaper. That's just a few examples. To me, its over the top. P.S. - don't bother tipping for maid service. They'll charge you for that too...$20 per day.

We just returned from a wonderful 4 night stay at the Fairmont Southampton. This is a beautiful and elegant hotel with a courteous and accomodating staff. Our room (a standard room) was very large with sitting area and a view of the sound. It was very peaceful. on the balcony. The furnishings were quite lovely and it had a large bathroom area. The housekeeping staff provided great service as did the everyone we met at the hotel. The free ferry service to the Hamilton Princess was excellent, although they only run in the morning and late afternoon. We bought a 3 day bus pass and rode the bus back and forth between the hotel, Hamilton and the Swizzle Inn (don't miss the Swizzle Inn nachos and the rum swizzles! You can get rum swizzle all over the island, but the version at the Swizzle Inn is to die for!) We did not use the hotel trolley because we enjoyed walking the property. The beach was outstanding and allowed us to walk over and enjoy world famous Horseshoe Bay. The outdoor pool was heated and there were plenty of chairs. We did not use the indoor pool but it was very beautiful. The entire hotel is very clean, up to date and well maintained. Because we knew that meals and snacks in Bermuda are amazingly expensive, we asked for and received a refridgerator which allowed us to buy wine and snack foods and keep them cold. The larger grocery store is a short bus ride from the hotel. There also is a grocery store on front street in Hamilton. A small shop next to Henry the VIII is within walking distance and can supply the basics, along with an assortment of wines at a much cheaper price. Just as an example, a bottle of wine in the lounge was $48 but we purchased the same bottle in Hamilton for $15. The view from the hotel is beyond description as it sits high on the hill and overlooks the sound and the ocean. This is a fabulous hotel and we are already planning to return next year!

Wonderful Easter Weekend

This was our second stay this year at the Fairmont Southampton, and it was just as wonderful this Easter Holiday as it was two months ago. This trip my husband and I brought my son, his wife and two children along with us to celebrate Easter. We reserved two rooms, and it would be difficult to choose which was the better. My son had an ocean view room which was larger than the corner room my husband and I had, but our view of the harbor was incredible. We each had a roll a way bed, and this made the sleeping arrangement quite comfortable. The rooms were spotless, and housekeeping couldn't have been more accommodating.

As for the Holiday program, it was great! Holy Thursday evening the program for the children was wonderful - kite making, creative face painting, Easter bonnet creations, delicious cakes and drinks, egg coloring, etc.... On Good Friday the crab cakes and hot cross buns down on Horseshoe Beach were quite a surprise - plenty of seating and drinks were provided. Afternoons, a lavish tea was served. On Saturday, the Thursday night program was repeated on the beach.

To top off everything, on Easter morning, just before we checked out, the Easter bunny led children (and parents and grandparents) on a wonderful Easter egg hunt, where everyone managed to find plenty of jelly beans and eggs. I don't think anyone could have been disappointed with the program the hotel provided. Thank you, Southampton.

Because we had the children with us, we dined mostly in the Jasmine lounge, which we have always enjoyed for atmosphere, price and quality of food. As I have written before, the trolley service and complimentary ferry service can't be beat.

This was our fourth stay in Bermuda and the Southampton Princess, and although we may be tempted to try other hotels or colonies, we just can't bring ourselves to leave the Fairmont. Anything you can desire is there. We'll certainly be back.

My family(with 2 kids, 6 yrs and 17 month) just came back from the easter weekend stay(3 nights). I would say the overall stay is very good.

Some good parts are:
1. Private beach is very nice and beautiful.(my two kids stayed there from 900am to 6:00pm and still didn't want to leave). It is a min walking to the famous horseshoe bay beach from the hotel beach. It had a Good friday kite event which attracted tons of people when we were there. And you just need to walk over and the hotel set up a tent with free drink and food.(I think that is the only hotel offered this service on the beach that day).

2. Hotel has its own ferry to Dock Yard daily and you can also take the ferry to Princess Hamilton, quite convenient. It has a trolley running every 5-10 mins to three restaurants on the properties. You can definitely walk over if you want, especailly without kids, it would be nice walk.

3. If you do want to take the public transportation, you can take bus 8 and get off the waterlot. Then hotel trolley can just take you back to the main gate.

4. Room is big, the hallway in the hotel is also wide. it is important if you have four people in a room like us(with a crib!).

5. Outdoor pool/indoor pool is also nice.

6. Nice restaurants on the properties. It is pricey. For a milk, $4 dollr, for a hot dog, $10. But if you can have really nice dinner there which will worth the money you paid.

7. Very nice kids programme. You can drop the kids there if you want to have a nice dinner without the kids. (for night kids program, they only open for 7 yrs and above though).

Some things you may want to know before you go:
1. The room looks like a little old to me. Something is broken. (like, lamp, crib, clock).
2. Don't expect there will always be somebody open the door for you at the main entrance of the hotel. Considering there are two big heavy doors, it is a little tough for me to go through with the stroller each time.
3. The front desk/conciege is very friendly(in fact every one is pleseant and nice), but unless you know what to ask , it is not quite helpful in terms of information about the local. I got more information from talking to other tourists or local people.

But think this way, even Ritz Carlton has broken stuff in their room, and problem with their service, nothing is perfect.

The other thing is you really should try their public transportation. The bus and ferry are very fast and convenient. Probably it is also comfortable than taking a taxi(because the space is much bigger!).
