“Mother-Daughter Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Beautiful hotel and impeccable service! The room was spacious and very clean. Beds were super comfortable. Cannot say enough nice things about the staff. Very helpful and so very pleasant! Would definitely recommend this for a relaxing getaway. Food was a bit pricey but quality was excellent. Looking forward to a return trip soon!

“Good enough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

The hotel is expensive like anything else on the island. The surroundings are nice, the golf course on one side and the sea on both. The staff are nice. The place is well kept. However, absolutely everything is expensive inside. The food at the restaurant is average but pricey. The service at the restaurant is slow but friendly.
The only thing I disliked were the extra fees added to the reservation. There is the price that you pay to reserve the room and then there are a lot of extra mandatory charges such as resort fees and what not. I dont mind paying them but I wish they were included in the bill when I made my reservation.

“Husband's 50th Birthday Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

We just finished a 3 night stay at The Fairmont Southampton (Fri 11/9 through Mon 11/12) and I wanted to write a review about the great experience that we had. We have traveled extensively and have stayed at many wonderful places (including Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts) but this was above and beyond anything we have experienced. We are a family of four from the Boston area and we came to Bermuda this past weekend to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday.
The indoor and outdoor pools were very pleasant. The towel desk personnel were nice enough to set up large towels over your pool chairs and provide drying towels as well. The temperature of the water was good and overall very relaxing. We used the 3 hot tubs extensively. They were all kept at a nice hot temperature and never crowded. The hotel beach was beautiful, pink sand and blue water.
One day we packed a lunch, took a backpack and jogged the rail trail to Church Bay beach for snorkeling. Lots of fish to see and had a great day. We walked back by the lighthouse and took pictures of the amazing views.
We also took advantage of the ferry to Hamilton and spent a day walking through town, shopping and eating. A cab ride to the Crystal Caves was well worth it. I have never seen anything like it; an awesome natural wonder. We took a cab back to Hamilton and the ferry back to Southampton.
It was a very short visit but we made the most of it. We slept great on the amazingly comfortable beds and relaxed.
The food at the hotel was delicious. We paid extra to stay on the gold floor and it was well worth it. We were treated like royalty and the entire staff (morning, evening, weekend) couldn't have been nicer. Our teenage kids cannot stop talking about how nice people were to them.
The staff was top notch. From the bellman, to the concierge, to the towel help, to the trolley drivers, to the restaurant staff and more, every person we interacted with was helpful, nice and truly made us feel welcome.
In particular, Maurico at the concierge desk and Kim on the Gold Floor were exceptional standouts.
Our trip was very memorable and I cannot say enough great things about this hotel.

“Excellent Overall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

My intentions were to post immediately upon return but we all know what back to reality is really like! We went to celebrate my husband's 50th Birthday. So, I followed the advice of other posters and joined the President's Club. After doing so, I contacted the Fairmont to let them know and was told that it may not guarantee us early check-in as the President's Clubs benefits are usually tied to frequent stays. However, we arrived at the FS at 11 am and were able to walk directly to the President's Club section of the Front Desk and were checked in within 15 minutes. (Others who flew in on the same plane and got to the hotel before us were allowed to check their bags to use the pool, but were told that their rooms may not be ready until mid to late afternoon. I also got a great through the Bermuda tourism sight that was offering the third night free. An offer that ran a month or so after I booked included free breakfast, so I called and we had that added in for two of the three mornings, and I booked our flights with a new Delta Skymiles card which saved us $50 per person and one free checked bag, preferred checkin, etc. Flights were Boston-Bermuda direct with a final cost of $300 each). So, overall the hotel was great! We were on the 4th floor - big room, balcony, nice bathroom. Any issue we ran into was fixed promptly (I had requested non-feather pillows due to allergies and they were feather when we got there, also we had a problem with AC not turning back on when Balcony door was closed). I saw complaints about the beach, but we thought it was fine. Although you definitely should take the further walk to Horseshoe and the adjacent beaches. Only went to the pool once, but it was more than fine and not crazy crowded. (Weather was around 80-83 each day - ocean water was SO nice!) Very expensive to eat on or off property - we only did breakfasts and apps at the Fairmont (and lunch two days at the pool bar/restaurant). After returning from the pool area our second day, I realized my phone was missing and thought I may have left it in the downstairs gift shop. After a few minutes of calling around and panic, the phone in our room rang and it was an employee from the beach area saying that I had dropped it on the beach, someone had turned it in and an employee was bringing it up the hill by bus to me! So sweet of them! Highlights outside of the Fairmont - drinks and Apps (drinks were 2 for 1 late Saturday afternoon) at the Reefs - the lower area (Coconuts) had a wedding so we sat at an upper area with amazing views and the sweetest waitress! Moped ride out to the Dockyard area was nice. Took water taxi to Hamilton (purposely waited until Monday since we were told everything was closed Sundays) and VERY FEW places were open as far as shops and dining BUT we lucked into our best meal of the trip at Barracuda's - sooo good! Overall, great trip and great location.

“First Trip to Bermuda”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

I decided to take my wife to Bermuda for our anniversary. We only went for 3 days, and 2 nights, in the end of September (Perfect weather, 80 degrees and sunny). It was hard to make decisions on where to go and where to stay based on all the reviews we read. If you have never been to Bermuda, there is one specific thing you should know. It is expensive! Food, taxis, hotels, drinks, shopping, all expensive. We didn't realize till after we got back that MOST bad reviews were people complaining about money. I booked the Fairmont Southampton, with a regular room. A couple weeks later I upgraded to a beach view, and then a couple of weeks later I upgraded to the top floor beach view. The top floor has all its own amenities, it's considered "gold member" or "gold status". It was only a small increase in price and is DEFINITELY worth it. Top floor has a private concierge for check in, free tea and coffee, snacks, breakfast, fruit, drinks, and even lunch if you just want a small sandwich. It pays for itself, and was extremely convenient to have by our room. There was a lounge, and outside patio, and it included free WiFi. There was a nice outdoor pool that we used, and an indoor pool that is only available to the spa during the day, then to guest later in the day.... I want to say around 6 PM. There were about 4 restaurants attached to the hotel, but we decided to go out and eat elsewhere in our short stay to see as much of the island as possible. The Waterlot Inn is a very highly rated restaurant attached to the hotel for fine dining. The hotel has a private beach that shuttles run to and from continuously, about a 2 minute ride each way. The beach was great, stocked with towels, chairs, and umbrellas. There was a restaurant there to get lunch and drinks, as well as staff on the beach to order drinks from. There is a gate on the edge of the property to walk through, and down a sandy path to Horseshoe Bay Beach, Go There!!! 2 minute walk, with the most incredible beaches and coves we have ever seen. This is where we spent the majority of our time. There is shopping on the first and second floor of the lobby, I bought a new tie for dinner, and some souvenirs to take home. There is a golf course on the property, although I do not play golf, it's my understanding that it is a par 3 course, not a regular course. Our room was great with a great view. Ocean side = sunrises, Bay side = sunsets. Bathroom was great, with separate room for shower and toilet. It made getting ready much easier. Our balcony had a great view of Horseshoe Bay. We loved the hotel, the beach and the people here. We haven't stayed anywhere else in Bermuda, but we have traveled a lot. We highly recommend this hotel, and highly recommend Bermuda.

Room Tip: Sixth floor is where you want to be, has all views and amenities.
