This is a very nice resort. In my opinion it is a five star facility with three star service. The facilty is beautiful. We stayed in room 289 and thought it was lovely. We enjoyed breakfast on the balcony in the morning and drinks on the balcony in the evenings. The trolley was fast and frequent to take you to the beach or to the ferry to Hamilton. One thing to remember is that Bermuda is only 21 miles long. Bus is the best way to get around. A one day pass is $12 and you can purchase the pass at the front desk. You can easily see Hamilton and St. George in one day. There are many places to eat at the Fairmont and all are very expensive! However this is no diferent than the rest of Bermuda which is also very expensive. A hamburger is $18-20. A beer is $7-9 and mixed drink $9-12. The best thing to do is go the package store in Hamilton and buy wine/alcohol and make drinks yourself in your room or on the beach. The service at the Fairmont was average. No one was extremely nice or helpful. We asked for a tea kettle one evening, didn't get it, asked again at 7:00AM, didn't get it. Met housekeeping at our door after we had already been on a run at 8:30 AM with a working tea kettle. It took 45 minutes to get creamer one morning. Not awful, but not 5 star either. This is an isolated hotel, but everything is easily accessible by bus or the free ferry that the hotel provides to Hamilton. The biggest disappointment was a $15 "drop-in" fee to use the gym at the Fairmont. For the price you pay for a room, the gym should be included and 'drop-in" fee reserved for people not staying at the hotel. I've stayed at many Fairmont properties and they always included the workout facilities in the stay. Find the small sundry store on the lower level for bottled water and snacks. We enjoyed the stay, but did not think the Fairmont Southampton was five star.
