“Best Bermuda Deal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

My wife, 6 year old daughter and toddler son truly enjoyed our week long stay. Jean-Marie was very accommodating and made us feel at home. She set up a crib and cot within the bedroom so our small family of four could be with one another. The kitchenette was perfect for cooking as all cookware was provided which allowed us to save money versus eating out every meal. The shared tv room was perfect for relaxing moments after a long day at the beach and wi if was available for free. We used the outdoor grill for virtually every meal and the outdoor patio overlooked the lush garden. We were provided fresh figs which tasted incredible. The location was perfect as we were able to walk 100 yards to the fairmont south hampton hotel trolley stop which provided us access to horseshoe bay beach at no charge. Simply put the place to stay if you want to experience the beauty of bermuda without breaking the bank and expect the same accommodations as a four star hotel.

Myself, my husband and 2 friends stayed at the Wade's Garden Inn from 11-27 July 2013. It was a year of the Island Games, hosted this time by Bermuda. I found the Inn through my long internet searches and I am extremely pleased that we decided to stay there. The Inn was very spacious, tidy and very homely (thanks to Russell's and Jean-Marie's efforts). It is positioned in one of the best locations, close to bus stops and only about 10-15 minutes walk to the supermarket. Russell and Jean-Marie were very helpful and Russell took us to the shop on our first night, so that we could buy essentials for the first few days.
We enjoyed Bermuda so much (especially that we stayed for 16 nights). Apart from the fantastic week of the Island Games (that we also competed in) we had a chance to visit the most beautiful parts of the Island and also enjoy snorkelling trips on the boat (including 2 shipwrecks), some shopping and of course wining and dining in lovely local restaurants (tasting local beer like the Amber Ale - highly recommended!).

If we ever come back (and the plan is to do so) we would definitely stay in the Wade's Garden Inn, as it is such a charming place.

My mother and father have been staying at the Wade's Garden Inn for several years, raving about it (and Bermuda) for just as long. Year after year they have said, "Max, you have to come with us, it is amazing!". Finally, this past July, I decided to join them. Much to my surprise, they were right!

The facilities at the Wade Garden Inn are superb. The house it self sits atop a hill, just shy of being on the bay, while having a phenomenal view. Nestled within a beautiful (meticulously maintained by Russell) garden, the home provides a sanctuary in a tropical paradise.

My room was spacious, well decorated and spotlessly clean, both upon arrival and cleaned again midway through my 7 day stay. The rooms include a private bath, kitchen, cable television, AC and high speed internet access.

Each room connects to a common area, including identical amenities to each room. As my parents shared a room, and I the other, we essentially had our own space, approximating rental of a full house for the duration of our stay. Coupled with the back deck/garden area, a very luxurious experience.

Jeane-Marie & Russell made every effort to make our experience as pleasurable as possible, whether it be touring the island, or making sure a technology junkie, such as myself, had wifi access as soon as I arrived.

The fact that the Wade Garden Inn offers a safe, clean and luxurious home base in Bermuda made exploring the rest of the Island just that much more pleasurable. With the assistance of the Jean-Marie & Russell, my family and I made several day trips to St. Georges, the Dock Yard, elbow beach among many others.

Travel aside, the best part of being situated in South Hampton, not having to go anywhere! A variety of restaurants, beaches and and activities are available within a 5 minute walk of the inn, Jet Ski tours leaving from the Waterlot being a personal favorite.

Whether one wishes to be active or restful, the Wade Garden Inn is the perfect place to do so. As children (though I am in my early 30's) have a tendency to be contrary to their parents, I can honestly say that my parents, Jan & Tom, were right. I would highly recommend staying at the Wade's Garden Inn, and hope to have the opportunity to do so again in the near future.

P.S. The cost VS. benefit ratio seems to be strongly in favor of guests at the Wade Garden Inn. What is provided vs charged is exceedingly equitable and generous vs other lodging options in the area. On the plane back to Boston, the man sitting next to me was reviewing his bill from a hotel near by, needless to say, he had seen happier days :)

Room Tip: All rooms are great.

We very much enjoyed our 8 night stay here in September. It all started with Russell picking us up at the airport and waiting for us at the Marketplace to do some shopping for breakfasts and BBQ's (Beware his high unexpected waiting time charges in the taxi he runs. This is not a free service.) Jean-Marie was a very nice lady and very helpful.

Wades is well situated next to the Waterlot Inn and just up the road from the Fairmont Southampton Princess Resort - whose shuttle bus you can use down to Horseshoe Beach, which is one oif the best light (not pink) coloured sand beaches I have ever seen (but take your own lilo. It costs $12 per day to rent a chair or umbrella plus deposit.) You can also use their ferry between the Waterlot and the Hamilton Fairmont Hotel. Jean-Marie will give you times.

Bermuda has an excellent transport system of buses and ferries. Buy the time unlimited tickets which are the best value. Wades have a few which they will sell you - pop down by bus to the Hamilton Ferry Terminal - stop outside, ask the driver - and buy a book or two of them the first day you get there.

Costs in Bermuda are very steep by UK standards - at least 2 or 3 times in most cases. We saw one large potato individually priced @ $1.24 at the local Marketplace! On average, we were told that most people have 2 jobs to sustain this very high cost of living. The local paper is full of jobs if you fancy a challenge but they appear to be heavily biased towards employing their own people for obvious reasons.

I would say that Wadesis excellent for couples. I would not take children as they have a large but seemingly friendly dog in their back garden. I am dog friendly but even I found it difficult using their extensive back garden which was a shame as it is nice. The dog has some sort of electronic collar.

I used 40 plus years of airmiles to get this trip and doubt we will ever go back. I would certainly like to though as it is a fascinating pro-english country with many of the foibles we had 30 years ago. The missus got the best tan we ever had but beware the hurricane season! We had to delay our trip due to Hurricane Leslie which stopped diving for 8 days. You can get 1 hour torrential storms as we did for 3 days, but once you get used to them they are no problem if you have a good anarack and fairly quick on your feet. (Also you can get some fun out of the wife laughing at you holding a chair over your head on the beach during one and 30 minutes later stripped off down to swimming trunks sun glasses and sun cream.) Just a matter of timing. I should have been in the sea already...

Room Tip: Only two suites!

We spent 4 nights at Wade's Garden Inn. Russell and Jean Marie are the perfect hosts! Russell also runs a taxi service and was waiting for us at the airport. He gave us a very nice guided tour on the way to the Inn. We arrived at the Inn to find a very thoughtful welcome gift of their homemade cherry jelly and items to make a Bermuda "Dark and Stormy" drink. After settling in, Russell took us on a driving tour of the area beaches, lighthouse, restaurants and then to the grocery store where he waited for us to do our shopping. Be aware that the taxi ride from the airport to the Inn will run you about $40. Keep in mind that you can easily walk to the Marketplace for more groceries as well (15 min walk).

Both Jean Marie and Russell are very open, friendly and knowledgeable about Bermuda. They can tell you about the culture, the flowers, the sights, etc. We honestly felt like we were visiting friends from the first day because they made us feel so welcome.

Wi-fi is available but is not consistent-the signal is often weak (won't work in the bedroom but works in the kitchen). Not a big deal to me but my husband had a harder time disconnecting:)

The Inn has 2 suites with a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom in each and a shared common room as well as a shared porch with a nice outdoor table/chairs and gas barbeque. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and they have put a lot of thought into caring for guests. Ex: we had a drying rack in our closet to hang out wet towels, etc from the beach and 2 beach towels in the wardrobe. The rooms are air conditioned with a control for a unit in the bedroom and a separate control for the kitchen. All necessary kitchen items were supplied including an electric kettle and pretty much anything you might need to prepare a nice meal.

We were diving for 3 days with Dive Bermuda which is in the Fairmont. Wade's Inn is the perfect location for diving. They also have snorkeling gear for hire. You can walk 2 blocks or so down the road and catch the free trolley within the Fairmont to reach the Dive shop or to be dropped off just a few steps from Horseshoe Bay. The diving was amazing but that's for another review.

Bermuda groceries are VERY expensive (as in a $5 loaf of bread) so be sure to pack a few basics like ground coffee, tea and maybe even some frozen meat if you have room in your checked luggage (we paid at least $15 for one steak to grill). Meals out are not cheap either-expect to pay around $25 per person on average.

We thought fresh fish would be cheap on an island but it's not! The Waterlot restaurant is only blocks away but be aware the it's a 4 star super expensive restaurant ($40 or $45 per entree)-too expensive for us but we had 2 beers at the outdoor bar overlooking the water and paid a premium ($18 for 2 beers). Do yourself a favor and buy your beer and wine at the Market ($11 for 6 pack of Stella, $13 for wine).

Can't say enough nice things about Wades Inn. No, you won't have a view of the water but you absolutely won't regret the choice. A great place, wonderful hosts and a reasonable price. We will definitely return to Wade's Inn.

I read all these reviews and they are all true. There is little to add. We were two couples in the two bedrooms and the common area was perfect for getting together. The patios on either side, with east and west exposures, are delightful, as are the hosts.
My contribution to this blog is that the shuttle to the Fairmount Southampton hotel is 100 yards away. It took us up to the hotel and down the other side to Horseshoe Bay, a beautiful sandy beach. The public beach is next to the Fairmount private beach.. We were pleasantly surprised that the best meal we had was at the Fairmount golf course club house called Bacci. The pizza is superb. There's something for everyone.

Room Tip: The two rooms are comparable

We recently spent one night at Wade's Garden Inn staying in their Pineapple suite. If you are looking for a nice clean place to explore Bermuda this place should be considered. It comes with a kitchenette and a shared common room. Plus you have access to a front porch and back patio as well. What we liked best was that it was clean and quiet and we found the owner (russell) to be very helpful through our stay as well. The only drawback would be that there is limited view of the ocean from this location but for the price and value we were fine with it (also there is no pool or easy beach access either).
