We spent 4 nights at Wade's Garden Inn. Russell and Jean Marie are the perfect hosts! Russell also runs a taxi service and was waiting for us at the airport. He gave us a very nice guided tour on the way to the Inn. We arrived at the Inn to find a very thoughtful welcome gift of their homemade cherry jelly and items to make a Bermuda "Dark and Stormy" drink. After settling in, Russell took us on a driving tour of the area beaches, lighthouse, restaurants and then to the grocery store where he waited for us to do our shopping. Be aware that the taxi ride from the airport to the Inn will run you about $40. Keep in mind that you can easily walk to the Marketplace for more groceries as well (15 min walk).
Both Jean Marie and Russell are very open, friendly and knowledgeable about Bermuda. They can tell you about the culture, the flowers, the sights, etc. We honestly felt like we were visiting friends from the first day because they made us feel so welcome.
Wi-fi is available but is not consistent-the signal is often weak (won't work in the bedroom but works in the kitchen). Not a big deal to me but my husband had a harder time disconnecting:)
The Inn has 2 suites with a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom in each and a shared common room as well as a shared porch with a nice outdoor table/chairs and gas barbeque. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and they have put a lot of thought into caring for guests. Ex: we had a drying rack in our closet to hang out wet towels, etc from the beach and 2 beach towels in the wardrobe. The rooms are air conditioned with a control for a unit in the bedroom and a separate control for the kitchen. All necessary kitchen items were supplied including an electric kettle and pretty much anything you might need to prepare a nice meal.
We were diving for 3 days with Dive Bermuda which is in the Fairmont. Wade's Inn is the perfect location for diving. They also have snorkeling gear for hire. You can walk 2 blocks or so down the road and catch the free trolley within the Fairmont to reach the Dive shop or to be dropped off just a few steps from Horseshoe Bay. The diving was amazing but that's for another review.
Bermuda groceries are VERY expensive (as in a $5 loaf of bread) so be sure to pack a few basics like ground coffee, tea and maybe even some frozen meat if you have room in your checked luggage (we paid at least $15 for one steak to grill). Meals out are not cheap either-expect to pay around $25 per person on average.
We thought fresh fish would be cheap on an island but it's not! The Waterlot restaurant is only blocks away but be aware the it's a 4 star super expensive restaurant ($40 or $45 per entree)-too expensive for us but we had 2 beers at the outdoor bar overlooking the water and paid a premium ($18 for 2 beers). Do yourself a favor and buy your beer and wine at the Market ($11 for 6 pack of Stella, $13 for wine).
Can't say enough nice things about Wades Inn. No, you won't have a view of the water but you absolutely won't regret the choice. A great place, wonderful hosts and a reasonable price. We will definitely return to Wade's Inn.
