“Great Place Great Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

My wife and I stayed for three nights at the end of July. The room was on the first floor overlooking the ocean, the view was spectacular. The room itself was very nice. The air conditioning worked well and the refrigerator was a great plus.

The Manage, Mr. Angelo did everything to assure our stay was beyond our expectations.
We ate one breakfast and one dinner in the restaraunt and the food was very good.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would be back in a heart beat. The service of the doormen to get you to the nearby store or a cab was excellent. You will never beat the location and the service for this little peice of paradise.

The beach is spectacular with plenty chairs and umbrellas. You can walk along beautiful elbow beach for a very long stretch and even walk over to the elbow beach resort if want to go to lunch at Mickey's. If you want to venture off the resort Hamilton is ten minutes away.
We would recommend this resort highly.

Room Tip: Great rooms are on the first floor of ocean front buildings

My husband and I have always wanted to visit Bermuda, and we were able to arrange it this year. We spent hours online researching resorts/hotels, and finally decided on Coco Reef, due largely to its proximity to the beach. While the beach was fantastic, the first room we were assigned to had a partially blocked view of the beach, was on the first floor, and had a bit of a mold smell. Since I am very allergic, and we weren't happy with the room placement, we requested a switch, which we received on our second day.

I recommend definitely asking for a second floor room, as I did not feel secure at all on the first floor, and the view is much better.

The second room's wicker furniture did have some moldy smelling dust on/in it and would get stirred up when touched. The shower curtain liner also had visible mold on it. Normally, I would have asked to have the room more thoroughly cleaned and the liner replaced, but I was tired after moving rooms and decided to just deal with it as best I could.

The staff seemed friendly and helpful, but I had the feeling that they didn't have much control over the policies and what items got attention and what did not. The hotel has only beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels, and a pool as amenities, and the wooden walkway down to the beach is getting rickety and is in need of repair/replacement. The AC in our room had to work almost continuously and was very noisy. We had the maintenance person in, and there was really nothing that he could do. We finally got used to the noise on our fourth or fifth night. On the other hand, our requests for extra towels and coffee, for cabs to be called, etc. were fulfilled cheerfully and promptly, so I cannot fault the staff at all for the shortcomings - this responsibility must lie at the management/ownership level.

Another management/ownership level issue for me is the use of somewhat abstract huge portraits of various women as a theme, not only in the hotel lobby, but in the rooms as well. I know that taste in art is personal, but I found it unnerving to wake up in the middle of the night and find a giant green woman seemingly staring at me.

Although we knew from the research that Coco Reef would most likely be a little dated and not have many amenities, we were not prepared for some of the issues we encountered. However, if your goal is to spend a ton of time on a nice quiet beach and you can overlook some maintenance issues, you will probably find Coco Reef adequate.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms seem more secure and offer better views. There is no fitness center or room serv...

This was my 42nd visit to Bermuda with my family. We've grown from a group of seven to an extended family of 33. We've stayed at Coco Reef for the past fifteen years and we all LOVE it. The beach is one of the best on the island, the food is delicious, the staff are attentive, caring, friendly, and help to make each day at Coco Reef enjoyable, relaxing, and wonderful. We get to swim in the most beautiful water anywhere, eat in one of the most spectacularly scenic restaurants ever, play tennis on courts three minutes from our rooms, take a moped ride into Hamilton in less than ten minutes, and enjoy a family vacation where each family member from eight to eighty wants to come back year after year. Thanks you, Coco Reef Stonington, for another great week!

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms closest to the beach.

The most perfect place on the planet. The value of this hotel was excellent. It was so peaceful, serene and not crowded. We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Our room was very clean and we had a super view. The grounds were immaculate. The furniture is out dated but the location is the very best. The staff was very professional, courteous and helpful. Amazing,we had the same wonderful beach that the exclusive Mandarin Oriental/Elbow beach has. Since the Coco Reef didn't have the greatest restaurants (they were ok) we went to the Mandarin Oriental for many of our meals. It is only steps away! FYI, most of the restaurants on the island are above average in price. We went to the convenience store by the Coco Reef for extra drinks and snacks for our room. The cheapest meal we had was at the famous Horseshoe beach. They have a really great snack bar (super burgers and fish sandwiches--cheap!) We rented a scooter and drove all around the island.(Highly recommend!) We had the most wonderful time. We can't wait to go back. We will definitely stay at the Coco Reef again. If you are looking for a romantic, quiet, laid back kind of time, this is the place. We have been many places and Bermuda/Coco Reef was by far the best time we have ever had!!!

I've been here before and loved it, but was disappointed this time. There the week of 8-4-13. Location can't be beat, beach is beautiful, restaurant ok, but menu could use a change. Disappointed in room this time. Over run by cockroaches. Told staff, they responded immediately and sprayed. I would come back to room and find 5 dead roaches, but found living ones the next day. Could not get rid of them. Décor needs an update in the rooms, and very disappointed that the hotel started allowing cruise ship guests to use the pool and beach. We could NEVER get a lounge chair because of this. Paying guests of the hotel should be able to get the chairs first! Cruise people left their young kids unattended at the pool. They were loud and caused issues with the older guests, so the hotel guests left the pool. Staffing was aware, but did nothing to curtail this situation. I did like the staff. They tried to be helpful. Not sure if I would stay here again, just couldn't deal with the MANY cockroaches.

Overall the value of this hotel was excellent. It was clean although a little outdated in décor. The beachfront was truly awesome, the pool was great, bar service was good, the breakfast was adequate, although a bit boring by day 4. The grounds were immaculate and the front desk was able to get taxis fairly quickly...the walk to the bus stop was okay until it started pouring rain, then it was dreadful. The fridge in the room was useful since the grocery store was just down the hill. We enjoyed our time very much.

Room Tip: beachfront....we requested 2nd floor for the view, but when it rained we couldn't sit on the pat...

We are seasoned cruisers/travelers and find the best plan in port is to find a nice hotel to hang at. That way we can enjoy the beach, take a nap and eat meals in a relaxed way. This hotel really fit the bill, reasonable rate, room right on beach, beautiful location and lovely grounds. The beach is breathtaking, with pink sand , in a private cove, reef protecting the bay makes it a great place to swim and play. There are chairs and umbrellas and the best part for us, lite crowd. Lunch on beautiful outdoor patio great too. Now, a few negatives. Staff not overly friendly or bend over backwards helpful. The rooms although adequate for all needs, are in need of updating. Think 1970's ish bamboo furnishings and popcorn ceilings, and push button locks on entrance door only. At the beach, we saw one waiter one time in two days there. I think a cosmetic facelift and this place is easily a 5 star hotel. That being said, we will be happy to stay here again and also to refer this place to our friends.

Room Tip: All rooms appear to face ocean, did not appear that there was a bad local
