“Awesome Room!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2014

We had a wonderful stay at Newstead this past June. We booked the trip last minute to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. We arrived in the evening and were picked up at the airport by the hotel shuttle. This was a bit delayed because we had to wait for others but still nice to have the hotel provide the transportation. Check in was very smooth and when we went to our room I couldn't have been more shocked. I thought I booked a King Studio but was delighted to find our room was a 1 bedroom suite. There was a large living room, kitchen and dining area that opened out onto a balcony with a great view of the harbor. The bedroom was a nice size, with a wonderful bathroom. We felt so comfortable in this room and had so much space we loved it! The service was good, the food wasn't the best which is why I gave 4 stars. The food is overpriced and service is slow in the restaurant. We choose to eat the majority of our meals outside of the hotel. There are some great restaurants on the island and everything is really easy to get to. The hotel partners with another hotel to utilize their beach, we went there one afternoon and wasn't too impressed, there weren't any chairs left so we just walked down to Elbow Beach and used their beach. All in all we had a great trip.

We loved this hotel - everything about it was a positive... even before we arrived, when the ever helpful Cherita gave us plenty of information & advice via email (she is a true star).
The weekend staff were also extremely helpful on the front desk once we arrived - not just with hotel issues, but tours and information on Bermuda generally. Housekeeping were effecient & friendly, and did a great job, considering the size of the apartments. The pool bar staff were very pleasant (even to customers, whom in our opinion, were outright rude to them on occasion). The young guys serving in the restaurant also made us feel welcome & relaxed.
Our one bed apartment was amazing, and ample room for a family of 2 adults 2 teens (an extra single fold away bed is provided on request). It is a good idea to do some self catering at least, in Bermuda unless money really is no object, and the apartments are very well equipped for this with everything you'll need !The views were also beautiful - especially at sunset. The pool was warm (the jacuzzi a litle too warm perhaps, unless you like to be boiled like a lobster !) & very clean, and the views from it were also great.
Wifi worked fine - even at the pool.
The best things about this hotel are as follows;
- large clean rooms with contemporary decor
- the free (and stress free) pick up to & from the hotel to/from the airport
- the free shuttle to the beach (means you can have the best of both worlds at this hotel)
- the free (hotels' own) ferry shuttle to Hamilton
- the amazing staff
- it is in Bermuda - which is an amazingly beautiful place.

Room for improvement ...a few suggestions;
- Clothes washer in the apartment would have been appreciated (there is a hotel dry cleaning service, but I didn't notice any laundry)
- Free transfers to alternative accommodations IF THEY ARE FULL and you have to split your stay with them (my elderly parents need to find their own way to & from another hotel as the Newstead is fully booked during one of the weekends of their stay - a bit disappointing since free airport transfers are offered)
- Better changing facilities at their 'sister' beach hotel - not so nice having to use their restrooms for this purpose, and they do ask you not to ride the shuttle back in damp costumes.
- Hotels' own ferry shuttle service does not operate from noon Saturday, until Monday morning - not ideal for a weekend break.
We were so impressed with this hotel however, are planning a return visit & have recommended it to family & friends.

Newstead is a great place to stay! Friendly staff and best location on the island. Great golf at Belmont Hills which is part of the resort. My favorite place in Bermuda. Many restaurants close by Newstead. Rent a scooter while you stay in Bermuda. Great fun.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and even though it is on the pricey side to stay here, it is definitely worth every penny. We had a suite on the top floor with a gorgeous view of the pool and harbor. The maid came in twice a day to make and turn down our bed and she left us clean towels both times. The suite was absolutely beautiful, spacious and spotless. The bathtub had the jacuzzi jets in it which was very nice. The one and only thing that I can say was a disappointment was the bed pillows which were very hard. Other than that everything was perfect.

Room Tip: The suites are worth the money

Absolutely a fabulous place to stay in Bermuda. I planned my wedding at the property and can't sing the praises of Dirk Beck of Beau Rivage Restaurant at the property. He made all the planning incredibly easy and was always available for questions/recommendations. When we had monsoon-like rains just hours before the "outdoor" ceremony, Dirk was able to reset the entire thing inside and made it magical. It was more of a lounge feel with cool, funky furnishings, space for dancing, separate for dinner and a lovely bar. It was just perfect and I had a hard time remembering why we wanted it outside to begin with. :)

The hotel is on the side of cliff overlooking the water and is just gorgeous. They provide complimentary shuttle service to neighboring property for beach access (Coral Reef - best margaritas I think I've ever had), so you won't miss having a beach and free ferry over to Hamilton. Take the freebies in transportation as much as humanly possible, as taxis are a fortune. Also, there is a grocery store in walking distance, so you can stock up on snacks and alcohol.

The front desk and bellmen were so friendly and we knew all of them by name. The food the chef prepared for the wedding was amazing and the guests all loved it. The housekeepers were great and extremely friendly. And finally, I great big, "THANK YOU!!" to Ana in the spa. She did an excellent job on my hair for the wedding. Every single thing at this hotel was TOP NOTCH! It was a great location and we will definitely stay there when we return.

Room Tip: All the rooms I saw were great. While visiting family who stayed at hotel for the wedding, all the r...

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at this lovely property. We were celebrating my mother's 90th birthday and found the hotel perfectly suited our needs. The 2bedroom apartment was spacious, modern and immaculate and the staff friendly and attentive.

We had fairly high hopes going into our stay at the Newstead Belmont Hills but were extremely let down. It should be noted first off that everybody we dealt with - reception, shuttle drivers, and bar staff, were all very professional and courteous. They were the highlight of our stay but everything went downhill from there. Now to the "lowlights..." We paid almost $400/night and expect a certain level of quality and Newstead failed in pretty much all aspects.

To avoid droning on and on here is a list of a few things that disappointed us:

- We had no power or running water all morning the day we checked out.. We couldn't shower, use the toilets, charge our phones or other electronics, or cook our breakfast (we had bought eggs, ham, and veges for omelettes). Nobody told us what was happening or offered any apologies or discounts even though we could use literally no hotel amenities until we checked out at noon.

- Wifi didn't work or barely worked in our room or by the pool the entire trip. We had to go to our friends' room to use it.

- The weather was horrible most of the trip which is obviously not the hotel's fault. There were some colder nights though and the hottub was broken the whole time we were there. If you charge guests $400/night, fix the broken hottub in a timely manner.

- There was no A/C in the gym, making it pretty much unusable.

- The food quality was poor - the spinach salad had all wilted spinach and they they wouldn't give us extra chicken on a chicken Caesar salad.

- Lastly, they charged an extra 10% gratuity on the nightly room charge on top of taxes. We were never told we'd be charged the extra 10% and it just seems ridiculous to pay the maids an extra ~$40/night to change the towels and make the beds. We also used the "do not disturb" sign one day and still got charged for maid service.

Overall, the stay just left a really bad taste in our mouths.
