“Nice breakaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

The hotel was very nice. The room met our needs. Very nice view of the harbour and Hamilton. Ferry service to Hamilton was great and made dinner out accessible. Bermuda beautiful island. Enjoyed the beaches and golf courses. Food and meals very expensive.

My wife and I stayed in a Junior Suite and were pleasantly surprised by its size and cleanliness. It had a separate living room, large bathroom, full kitchen and a large outside patio with table and chairs. Great views of the harbor and Hamilton. From the size of the room, free ferry to and from Hamilton and central location on the island, it is probably the best value you can find in Bermuda.

'Beau Rivage' appeared sub-par, we ate breakfast there only, however 'Blu' at the golf course was great. I suggest going to Blu during the afternoon or early evening to take advantage of the amazing views. We did not use the hotel pool, patio was small and we prefer the beach so we used the complimentary shuttle to Cocoa Beech and that was a much better place to relax and get some sun. All in all, very nice accommodations, receivership not noticed, very helpful staff and we would go back again.

This was an awesome experience. First time in Bermuda, 1st Anniversary.. The room we had was amazing, the largest deck one could ask for. The view was unbelievable. Superb service. I am considering my return within a year hopefully, if not another two years, and would like to get the same room, same rate. I am hoping to have guests along for the trip as well.

Room Tip: The room we received was amazing!!! Room# 755 Thats all you need to know!

My family just spent the week in Bermuday and stayed at this wonderful property. Everything was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful, our room was very clean and lovely and the view was exceptional. Although, you are not on the beach, no worries, as they will shuttle you to Elbow Beach at any time you wish with pool and hotel privelages at Coco Reef. We found the one bedroom suite to be very comfortable for our family of four. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: The one bedroom suite is perfect for a family of four.

My husband and I spent 5 nights here recently with our 15 year old daughter. We found the one-bedroom suite was perfect for our needs, and we especially enjoyed the large, furnished balcony with its gorgeous view of the harbor and Hamilton. The rooms were very clean, the pool area is lovely without being overwhelming, and the staff is great. The spa and the exercise rooms are small but well-equipped. Having the hotel shuttle to take us to the beach and golf course was key, as was the ferry over to Hamilton. One downside is that you cannot really walk anywhere from this property; Harbor Road is very busy and there are few sidewalks, and the hotel is not situated on a beach. We found taxis and the bus system very easy to use, though. We tried both restaurants and found the food lovely, although they are expensive (as are most restaurants and supermarkets in Bermuda). The service at Blu was better than at Beau Rivage.

We found some of the information in the room guide (regarding ferry schedules and restaurant hours, for example) to be inaccurate, so it's best to check with the front desk staff if you have any questions.

Otherwise, we had a great stay, and I would recommend this hotel to friends and family!

This is my fourth time here. The location of the hotel is excellent for a business traveler or those who do not need to be on a beach. Beautiful harbor views, very nice and spacious rooms with excellent bathrooms and just a short water shuttle to the center of Hamilton. The staff is very professional, competent and friendly and Jasmine at reception is particularly friendly and quietly assured. To top it all off, Beau Rivage is an excellent restaurant...the catch of the day, done with French aplomb with great and modest saucing.

We just returned from a 5-day visit at the Newstead Belmont hotel. We had a nice stay and lucked out with the weather despite going in the April shoulder season. The hotel's 1-bedroom suite was a perfect set up for our family which includes our 18-month old son. It was so convenient to have a kitchen, separate sleeping/living areas and laundry nearby. The infinity pool was also a highlight for our family.

In my preparation for the trip, I was frustrated by the hotel search. It felt like all of the options in Bermuda were at two extremes (either sky high prices or outdated/rundown hotels). There was little middle ground. I think Newstead fit the bill perfectly for the type of stay we were looking for... clean, updated and affordable.

Some important things to note before you go:

Taxi rides are expensive. Thankfully, with our stay we were granted shuttle service to/from, but you can plan on at least $50 to and from if you needed to pay out of pocket.

Head to the grocery store on Day 1 and stock up on food and any alcohol you might want for your stay.

Newstead Belmont property is not on the beach. They do offer a complimentary shuttle to one of the nearby hotels (Coco Reef - which is right next door to Elbow Beach).

The hotel also offers a complimentary ferry to/from downtown Hamilton. It was quite easy and fast. However, the types are really inconvenient or at least they were for us. There are shuttles early in the morning until around 11:30AM or so and then they don't start back up again until 5PM or so. That wasn't ideal with our son's sleep schedule or unless you were planning on spending most of your day over there. There are public ferries which we used to get to/from, but they are much slower and not on the property.

Sundays things shut down on the island. It's a day of rest. Some grocery stores will be open, but with limited hours.

Service at the hotel and on the island in general was just "meh". We really were not greeted with the warm and outgoing friendliness we have received at many other resorts and islands we have visited in the Caribbean and elsewhere. We sort of just felt like we were a pain or things were on their schedule. One example was when we first arrived late at night with a sleeping baby we were put in the hotel room closest to a wedding reception when I asked to change rooms were told they were fully booked. I was confused by that because during our stay we did not run into very many people at the hotel.

Beaches were beautiful. Horseshoe Bay was the most widely recommended and we enjoyed it. There was a "restaurant" (more like a food stand with picnic tables) and changing/bathrooms on the beach.

All in all, I would recommend this resort, but just know what you are getting for your dollar. Clean apartment-style hotel (if you pick the 1 bedroom suite) with a fabulous pool, but so-so service.

Room Tip: All rooms have beautiful ocean views with a balcony. If you choose the ground floor, you will also h...
