“baby shower”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

I was there for a baby shower held in one of the suites, the suites are well worth the price. The view of the Hamilton harbour is priceless. I have also been there for a private b'day party and the service was exellent, Newstead is diffinately a very peaceful private getaway spot for me.

Before flying we asked about transport from the airport and for a reservation for dinner. Andrew at the front desk took care of both. On arrival we found our "suite" to be a commodious apartment with full kitchen and 1+1/2 baths. Plenty of fridge space for breakfasts, wine, and a week's worth of groceries. full grocery store at the east end of Front Street in Hamilton with reasonable prices and easy to return by public ferry or Hotel's own ferry. The pool, overlooking the bay and Hamilton, is good for paddling and long enough to exercise. Staff were quick to respond when we could not figure out how to turn on the television and also when we returned at 2:30 one afternoon to find that we had left the "do not disturb" light on, so the cleaning crew had skipped us. One call to the desk later and they returned. Friendly but not overly-friendly culture among the guests.
In addition to the ferry just at the door there's the #8 bus a short walk away on Middle Road. We have visited Bermuda often, always enjoyed it, but found Newsteadbelmonthills to be special, a place to which we shall return.

Room Tip: Ask for a one bedroom suite on the same level as reception. Confirm arrival by email in advance to...

Our room at Newstead Belmont Hills was located in a cottage unit, with a direct water view. The multi level layout of the room worked nicely in keeping the spaces separate, and the extra half bath was a great addition not often found in one bedroom units. I was a little worried about the a/c being in wall units instead of central, but it was not a problem at all.

The room was very clean, beds were comfortable (including the queen sized sofa sleeper), and plenty of towels were provided each day. Night time turn down service was a nice touch too.

One of the best features of this property is the friendly, and very accommodating staff. They were readily available to answer questions (with a smile!), or offer suggestions for transportation or things to do. We also were fortunate to meet many of the fractional owners who spend a lot of time here, they were so kind as to include us into their group of friends. Very enjoyable to converse with and really made us feel welcome!

Pros:

Location across the harbor provides beautiful vistas and easy access to Hamilton via the ferry. It also is close to a grocery market. Shortly after arrival, the hotel taxi drove us and waited while we shopped for what food items we needed. There are also quite a few good restaurants just a quick taxi ride away.

Loved the infinity edge pool! Hanging out on the side and watching the boats or the sunset was very relaxing. Towels were plentiful, as were lounge chairs.

Nice fitness center with free weights, cardio equipment with a view.
Spa looked good but didn't get a chance to try it (next time for sure)

Our favorite meal of the trip was at Blu, located at Belmont Hills Golf Course. The shuttle will take you and bring you back. We were very impressed with the melt- in- your- mouth salmon entree, and the many sushi options. The contemporary decor and lighting made a pretty setting, and the servers were professional.

The beach at Coco Reef was wonderful! Chairs and towels provided at no charge, and we also were able to use their pool as the water was too rough for my 12 year old. Shuttle service to and from made it quite easy. Another plus is a quick walk brings you right on to Elbow Beach where you can get food/drinks, or just walk the long stretch of pink sand. Really enjoyed this whole set up.

Airport shuttle was prompt and appreciated in both directions.

Cons:

The kitchens could use a few more dishes/utensils to cut down on dish washing.

Some of the bath towels seemed to have no absorbency to them, which we found strange.

The shuttle only runs in the morning and in the evening, with no afternoon service. So you either had to leave your room by 11:20, or wait until 5:20.

Hot tub was the same temp as the pool. Neither were heated, but we didn't find this to be a problem.

I will definitely return to NBH in any future trips to Bermuda. The smaller scale and more personal feel makes this an ideal place for honeymooners, but I would also recommend for families due to the spacious rooms and kitchen facilities.

Room Tip: Cottage units provide an unobstructed view of the harbor and Hamilton.

Just returned from our 3rd trip to Bermuda - 2nd visit to the Newstead. We stayed in a one bedroom suite on the top floor. This was our most enjoyable trip to Bermuda so far - and certainly won't be our last trip to Bermuda or our last trip to the Newstead. This hotel is fabulous - can't say enough good things about the property and the staff. Everyone is very helpful and friendly - especially the General Manager, the front desk staff, and last but definitely not least, Erik the bellman. During this trip we stayed for 6 nights and stopped by a few other resorts to check out the property and / or have lunch (Elbow Beach, The Reefs, Tucker's Point). I would not hesitate to stay at the Newstead again over any of these properties. The views are fantastic, the location can't be beat and anytime you want to go to the beach it's a short shuttle or taxi away (depending on where you're headed).

When we arrived at Newstead, we were stunned by this hotel's views of the bay. From the lobby, from the pool and from your room, there are incomparable views if the famous colored houses across the water. The rooms are renovated and of large size. The infinity pool is lovely, although the seating area around it needs some updating. Not much service by the pool bar, but you can get a drink. Good fitness area. We appreciated the water taxi and that golf was included.

Room Tip: I believe all rooms have a view of the bay, but ask.

We stayed at Newstead Belmont for our honeymoon, and absolutely loved it! Our room was in one of the lower level cottages. The room was incredibly spacious and clean, with a great kitchen and large bathroom. The view of the harbor was very nice, even though we weren't high above ground. We actually photographed an amazing sunset from the yard outside our room, which I've attached to this review.

We used the resort's water ferry every day to Hamilton, then took a bus from Hamilton out to the beaches. Having the water ferry was absolutely great, but like others have stated, we wish it ran more often. One night we took a bus to Church St / Harbour Road, but that was a long walk back to the hotel. We also took their shuttle to the Belmont golf resort, and my husband played a round of free golf (he paid for club rental and cart).

Every night we relaxed in the resort's hot tub and infinity pool. On our second night there, we made a mistake and ordered drinks at the bar. Very, very expensive drinks! The bar was the only negative feature of the entire resort. We would absolutely stay here again, it was an amazing resort!

Spending a week at Newstead Belmont Hills Hotel was a lovely treat for our 2nd honeymoon. We could hardly get ourselves away from the balcony view of the harbour. There was a sailboat race in the harbor the entire week. If not on the balcony, we were at the iffinity pool where you could stand at the edge and you felt like you were in the harbour. If not there we were at the beaches which were lovely. If not there we were on the scooter we rented to tour the entire island (highly recommend). As others have stated, the ferry shuttle and the van shuttle to the beach and golf course were a plus. Also we used the Spa for massages - Turin and Fredericka were excellent.
Everyone was so helpful and friendly - it is the Bermudian Pride that will lure us back to this special place.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the cottages right on the water - away from the pool.
