- It is a very business oriented hotel as it is in the middle of the city
- Only one restaurant with average food
- Rooms are sparse
- Walkable to a lot of places and near the shopping area (which is hardly anything to talk about)
- Frequented by the rich local crowd for drinks
- The much hyped high tea is very average
If you are a leisure traveller and on vacation, take a hotel near the beach
This hotel is in Hamilton, Capital of Bermuda. It is one of the oldest hotels on the island, but it is beautifully maintained and has all the amenities. We've gone so often, that we stay in the Fairmont Gold area, which has it's own check-in area on the second floor. With this package, you receive many extras. The employees (like the residents of the islands) are always friendly and helpful.
I have never been to Bermuda before and have nothing to compare this to. The property was lovely but had no beach (we knew this) and it takes 45 minutes total to get to its sister property. The grounds were nice and right on the water. Our first room was nasty and old, like an old Holiday Inn. We moved to the newer building which was clean and comfortable but nothing fancy, like a new Sheraton. The men at the front desk were highly snotty, though the women were nice and helpful (not to be sexist I just noticed it). We got breakfast in our room rate which saved us about 60 total per day. Restaurant was good enough and bar was great with live music - prices were NYC levels, not bad for an island. You can walk to all the restaurants in Hamilton so you dont feel stuck on a resort - though it has enough that you dont have to leave. The putting green was a nice touch, and the ferry to the other Fairmont was free and smooth. Also, because the place has two pools kids tended to congregate around one, leaving a quieter one for the rest of us. Room service was fast and reasonable. Housekeep was very slow and you had to beg them to come before 4pm (maybe just bad luck for me but they seemed very understaffed). Only other pet peeve is that the air conditioner came on and off - there is no way to leave the fan running throughout - if you are a light sleeper this is annoying. Also no bathtubs in the new rooms or jacuzzi anywhere so if you like a hot soak on vacation you are out of luck here. Overall though for 379 a night I think we got a fair value when you factor in breakfast.
Only complaint - could hear people in neighboring rooms, which don't want to hear in this class of hotel (much nicer than we're accustomed to). Afternoon tea was also somewhat disappointing. Other than that, the facilities were beautiful - lovely large pools, ferry to sister hotel on the beach, very attentive staff, nicely appointed room; hotel is a short walk to Hamilton - an upscale grocery store is up the block, so it is easy to supplement hotel/restaurant meals with groceries. Felt very taken care of at this establishment --
