“Good and expensive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

One of the best hotels, central located it has everything you need- food, pool, views, bars etc
If you want walking way to the beach go to fairmont shp, it is 20 minutes from center, but you will see ocean from your window.
Taxi are expensive, would be 50$ to get from the airport to the Hamilton princess, but it is good.

“Grear traditional service, but could do with some updating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

I stayed here on a business trip in February 2013.

The hotel itself is fairly grand and the main public areas are quite impressive.

I had one of the suites on the first floor and the room was huge and fairly well equipped. The only criticism I had was that it was all a little dated and tired, the TV's in the room for example are at least 15 years old (CRT monsters), certainly in need of a refurbishment.

The staff were excellent, friendly and could not do enough to please.

We ate in the bar on our first night and had breakfast in the restaurant every day, the food was good and again the staff excellent.

I think that my only gripe would be the need for some renovation and renewals and, at the price charged, we paid in excess of $500 per night, I think that this is not an unrealistic expectation.

Thank you for your recent reviews. We are always looking at ways to improve our historic property (more than 125 years) and as such the hotel is constantly refurbishing its guestrooms. I am terribly sorry that your room did not meet your expectations but can confirm that the entire Poinciana wing (66 rooms) will be renovated this coming November. I hope you we will have the opportunity to welcome you at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess in a not too distant future.

“Good experience but the hotel could do with some updating and general maintenance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

I spent 4 days here on business. The hotel was good but not excellent. For example, the wireless was patchy and the corridors and room in need of some tlc. The restaurant was also worth avoiding, particularly given the expense and lack of service. That said, the place is steeped in history and a comfortable and convenient place to be based in Hamilton.

“Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

My wife has stayed at this hotel multiple times since 1982. This is her review..
While the name changes the people remain as lovely as ever. Kudos to the doormen who welcome you home.
The rooms are very nice, we booked the least expensive room and received an upgrade to the building by the saltwater pool. We had a balcony with a chair for 1 and a waterview.

The grounds are well kept, the rooms are clean.

Our booking included breakfast. On Sundays there is an omelet station and a waffle station. Otherwise it is a buffet breakfast with poached eggs, meats, cold cuts, fruit, cereals, juices, and a must try banana bread french toast!

We had requested a mini fridge, there is a grocery market called Miles about a 5 min walk from the front door of the hotel. We did not have one, although I had a confirmation email. I was told by the concierge (who I thought was quite rude) that they were available on a first come-first serve basis. We did wind up with a fridge.

The ferry between Hamilton and Southampton is not as short of a ride as advertised. My one real complaint. The captain is trying to save money by saving fuel and goes slower. Be prepared for a 45 min ride each way, not 20.

The beach (located in Southampton at the sister property) was clean and beautiful with ample amounts of chairs and umbrellas. The beach bar is so convenient as is the lounge chair service. It was so nice to be able to order a drink or lunch and have it brough to you. You can charge to your room which is very convenient as well.

Dining- we had lunch at Harley's on our first day as our room wasn't ready. It was good.

My favorite restaurant in all my travels is the Waterlot Inn and while Barry Cohen wasn't the Maitre'D, the new one from Canada is fantastic. He was quite informative regarding Ice Wine. We took the ferry over and a taxi back. Our dinner there was fantastic as usual, I don't think you can order a bad meal there.
If you go to the Swizzle Inn, go to the original-while there go to the caves or BAMZ.
There are some great new restaurants within a short walk to the hotel. One is Bouchee, another is Harry's (located near Miles Market). Portofino is an old favorite.

We went to BAMZ one day ( Bermuda Aquarium, Museum, and Zoo) because it was overcast (typical) and it cleared up later in the day.

Thank you very much for your recent review and we are happy that overall, your wife had a great stay with us. We feel strongly that our staff really is our best asset and they love going above and beyond to ensure our guests have a fantastic vacation. I am of course sorry to hear about the couple hiccups you encountered with the delivery of the fridge. The fridges are available on a first come first serve basis. The email confirmation your wife has received was to acknowledge the request and would unfortunately not guarantee that one would be available at your time of travel. Best to you and your wife and I hope to see you at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess in the not-too-distant future.

“Bumpy Start, Great Ending”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Stayed here off-season late December through New Year's and early January, and as a result, the Fairmount Gold concierge not there, though the space was. First room assigned had a huge cracked sink, but the young and very accommodating staff moved us to a huge suite on one of the Fairmount Gold floors! Stunning! Then, no hot water, and though it took a few days to get that sorted out, the staff went out of their way to try to assist and should be commended for composure and excellent follow-up on what could have been a situation that could have ruined our vacation. The facility is very nice with two swimming pools, an excellent fitness facility and it is very close to the heart of Hamilton so getting around was very easy. If you want your toes in the sand, take the free ferry to the sister hotel, the Fairmount Southampton Princess and bask on the beach there as well as access those hotel facilities and charge things to your Hamilton Princess room!

Cannot say enough about the great staff, from the bellmen who knew your name after day one and were ever present at the doors to assist, get taxis, provide tips or just a warm greeting and smile to the reception staff and managers to the Heritage Court service staff to the wonderful and attentive housekeeping staff. Room service was always much quicker than stated. The in-house spa was, unfortunately, VERY pricey, so we did not avail ourselves of any of those services.

My companion got ill while there (not from food or anything!), and a call to the front desk got us a return call from a physician on call to the hotel who was willing to make a "house" call in the hotel or just call in a prescription. And all in just a few minutes and late at night!!

We thoroughly enjoyed the proximity to the city, restaurants and transportation that the hotel afforded us. Would we stay there again? Absolutely. For an off-season stay, it was lovely.

Room Tip: Until they finish the upgrade in the Poinciana wing, avoid those rooms!
