“Go for the Gold!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

Very pretty hotel in a great location, if you are looking to stay in Hamilton, where there is much to do. This was a girl’s trip and we had a great time despite the horrid weather. You have to book a Gold room. It is well worth the extra cost and the food presentations are lovely and quite bountiful. We were able to fill up at breakfast and then just snack throughout the day until we went out at night in town for dinner. So many fine restaurants to choose from in Hamilton. And yes, a little pricey, but we live in NY and are used to this. The food is top quality. The food and drinks in the hotel bar were good as well and the atmosphere was lively. The service in the Gold Lounge was fabulous as well and the concierge lined up all our dinner reservations quite efficiently.

I did check out a basic room in the old wing when I was there, and I was not impressed. It felt like a cheap motel. I would not be happy paying $300 a night for that. If you can’t afford the Gold, upgrade to a room in the newer wing. It is well worth it.

All in all, Bermuda was great as a weekend get-away. Great food, very nice hotel with great service and very safe feeling even late at night. The nightlife is decent too and there are cute International men there. Always a plus! I will be going back when it warms up again and will hopefully have better weather.

Thank you very much for your nice comments. I was delighted to learn that your entire experience on Fairmont Gold was so enjoyable and that you had a truly memorable stay with your girlfriends. I am pleased to confirm that the Poinciana wing rooms will be renovated in the next few months to bring them in line with our other accomodations. I hope we will see you again soon! Regards, AB

Stayed 18th to 26th November. Main restaurant closed - also at sister hotel - for 'refurbishment. However, concierge extremely helpful in reccomending alternatives and on discovering we were celebrating a birthday arranged a 'celebration' both at the restaurant we attended and back at he hotel (champagne and chocolates on the baclony). the Princess is in an excellent location to visit all the island and despite being 'out of season' we found travel easy using local buses, and ferries durig the day and taxis for evening outings. Hotel boat to sister hotel to use the beach and 'resort' style facilities is worth the trip. Again, concierge at the Princess arranged a courtesy room at the southampton so we could change for dinner after being on the beaches. It is worth taking the 'gold' package which includes a light buffet breakfast of hot and cold items plus the exclusive lounge and check in/out facilities. also more personal and extremely attentive sevice from dedicated staff. We requested particular room options after arrival and staff were quick to satisfy all requests. I would reccomend this hotel for those wanting a good base to see the island with excellent and professional service. The hotel is well used by business for conferences and events and has a good business section. if you are a family partiuculary with young children, the sister hotel with its resort facilities is more suited.

Room Tip: High levels. Gold upgrade. Request a balcony if you book 'gold'. These rooms do not have...

We booked in for 10 days in order to attend the Bermuda Classic Rugby Tournament from 9th - 18th November 2012. Our room was 611 and was adequate for us. It had a view over the front of the hotel and the lovely properties opposite. The buffet breakfast was to sustain us until we ate at the Rugby venue. We visited the Sister Hotel Southampton via the hotel ferry which took about 25 minutes, several times. The views from the ferry were awesome, lots of smaller islands with pastel coloured properties and no doubt very, very expensive! The beach at the Southampton was beautiful as was the surrounding Golf Course. However the location of the Princess was much to our advantage as when not at the rugby, we were able to take the short stroll into Front Street and its Restaurants. Bouche's restaurant very near the Princess served beautiful Mussels!. The weather during our stay was very pleasant even though we did have a light shower or two most days, but it was very warm at 23degs day and night. It was lovely to sit by the pool and watch the marine craft going by and to feed the fish? We would and will stay at this hotel again. The bar and foyer were always pleasant to sit in and listen to the grand piano being played in the afternoons. The Coy Carp in pools around the rear of the hotel were so great to watch especially at feed time. With its history and location this is a great hotel and worthy of its star rating. Well done Wesley, you made us welcome every time we returned " Home ". Nattacha served us well at the pool bar and we were amazed at her knowledge of the history of Bermuda and of the Hotel and its famous visitors.

We stayed two nights at this Fairmont before moving to the sister hotel in Southampton. The Southampton was a better place for our purposes, but the Hamilton hotel has definite positives.

For anyone doing business in Bermuda this would be an ideal location as you can easily walk downtown. That is an advantage for meals as well.

We had to wait over an hour for our room but were pleasantly surprised with the lovely ocean front suite. All the usual top level Fairmont amenities were there.

We enjoyed sitting at both pools and the heated pool was welcome, as the weather was not overly warm.

We had tea in the casual restaurant, which was quite pleasant, but a bit overpriced. We ate one meal at Harley's as it was closed for supper the second night. The food was fine. We were unsure why they would close the only nice restaurant on a holiday weekend when the hotel was full.

Overall, it was a standard hotel but nothing really special. The Southampton however, was very good.

Room Tip: Overlooking the bay is best.

This was our 3rd stay at the Hamilton Princess over the last few years. This time, we had the pleasure of meeting Kerrie the concierge shortly after we checked in. She really made the difference in this vacation for us: from a hand written invitation to the Friday night sunset cruise on the M/V Venetian, to meeting the Governor of Bermuda at the hotel gallery, to inviting us to help clean, measure, and weigh the green sea turtles at the Bermuda Aquarium - she was absolutely fantastic and a major asset to the hotel. We had more Bermudian adventures in four short days then we have on any previous visit to the island.

Unfortunately, the afternoon before we were to leave, we learned that we couldn't get back to the States for at least 3 days due to Hurricane Sandy; which was good and bad. I know you're thinking "boohoo trapped in paradise" but it wasn't all fun and games. We had to book 2 more nights at the hotel which we hadn't budgeted for. Thankfully the Fairmont worked with us and many other couples in the same situation to ensure a fair rate for our "extended stay". They certainly didn't have to do this but really displayed great customer service and concern during this emotional time for those of us from the east coast.
We’ll be back!

Room Tip: Rooms 662 thru 668 have amazing balcony views of the courtyard, Hamilton Harbour with it's frequ...

There are a lot of nice things about this hotel. It's in a nice location, and it's not a bad place to stay. But given my expectations of, and experience with, the Fairmont brand, as well as the rates charged by this hotel, I can only give it a three-star review.

First, the service. I gave up on most calls to the front desk because they went unanswered after ringing for at least a minute. And when requested, service was slow to come; after I asked to be moved to another room (see comments below) I was cheerfully told that someone was on his way to help me, but it took 45 minutes, and three more calls, before a bellhop arrived to take me to a new room

Second, the rooms. A mixed lot. I was first given (if I'm remembering correctly) room 039, and was quite surprised at how much I could hear from the room next door--from light conversation to suitcase zippers to the flush of the toilet. I was moved to another room upstairs, which was far quieter because it didn't have a door connecting it to the next room, and it was also closer to the water, but had a sink that didn't drain well.

In both rooms, the A/C shut off automatically, which was very annoying if you depend on the sound of the fan to fall asleep. There doesn't appear to be a way to simply run the fan by itself.

The charge for wi-fi is $13.95 per day, which really isn't excusable in a luxury hotel.

Minor point: the shower controls are unmarked and unintuitive, so it takes some trial and error to figure out how to set the water temperature, which isn't something you really want to be doing before your first cup of coffee.

Room Tip: Beware of rooms that have doors connecting them to adjacent rooms. I asked to be moved from my first...
