“Nice, but not worth the 4 star price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2007

My husband and I spent 10 days at the Fairmont for our Honeymoon. Overall, our stay was good, but not worth $399 a night, nor is it a 4 star when it comes to service.

The grounds are beautiful, we had a great view, room was decent- no complaints there, but the front desk staff and housekeeping need a lot of work. We found 2 cockroaches in our room- which may be due to the fact that the housekeeping staff leaves empty glasses/dishes in the hallway...for days. On more than two occasions the housekeeping staff neglected to replenish the towels in the room, which I discovered while getting out of the shower.

The room service arrived ice cold.

On a positive note the High Tea is not to be missed. The Bar is a fun time- The staff at the bar, Lee especially was wonderful. I would recommend the hotel for a short stay and for $199 a night.

Our first visit to Bermuda. We chose The Fairmont Princess primarily because of location and it was also offering a special four night room rate ($1200, inc flights). The hotel situation is super. The hotel is well presented / decorated around the reception and dining areas. The bedrooms are slightly tired and in need of decoration and the a/c in our bedroom didn't work properly. We were partially prepared for this because of the special room rate. What we didn't anticipate however was the poor customer service - on a few occasions when we ordered drinks and food we were told that they didn't have what we wanted in stock, despite appearing on the menu. A few other staff were curt and dismissive - already content that their gratuity was already "in the bag" no doubt, as 15% is automatically applied to your check. One member of reception staff was unhelpful to the point of being rude beyond belief. Had it not been for those few cheerful and professional members of staff, this would probably have impacted on our holiday more. Unfortunately, the children of some residents were allowed to roam around the hotel grounds after midnight and swim in the pool. Thankfully, we didn't hear of any accidents during our time there. During our stay, the bed sheets were not changed and the mini bar was not restocked. We gave feedback on all unsatisfactory points, however, the hotel didn't follow up on any of them. Our stay at The Fairmont Princess didn't spoil our visit to Bermuda - we had a wonderful time. As I said above, we had certain expectations given the cost, but I thought other travellers might find our experience helpful, should they consider The Fairmont Princess as their own destination venue.

Well this was my first time in Bermuda. I travel all throughout the Caribbean, but I must say, for being in the Caribbean this was one of the most beautiful islands ever. The Princess was beautiful as well, old charm and kept its character. It is a luxury resort and the people who stay there as well as staff can seem kind of up-etty. But we didn't care we were on vacation and we were gonna enjoy ourselves and wear and do what we want, thats another thing they require dressy attire for everything even for walking the grounds and all and for going out, but we got away without doing it so. If u wanna do more laid back casual places try pickled onion on front street as well as flannigans on front street about a block from pickled onion. Pickled onion was very hip and trendy with new cuisine, the other place is an irish pub. Both good food comfortable atmosphere. I loved bermuda all in all, visit horseshoe bay, i have some pictures of it, the cove there is amazing and a must see.
I've been to a lot of islands, and if u want peace and serenity, with beautiful unspoiled beaches, scenery, and pink sands, and breath taking photos, hit bermuda up. The Fairmont hamilton princess is not on the the beach but on the harbour type inlet, and we had room 76 bay wing, walk right out on the patio and onto the grass, we had our private little corner, where no one disturbed us, and views to be reckoned with, it was great and i can't wait to go back, and everyone should go too!!!
O and i forget to say that the rooms are ok, very well stocked mini bar, and when i mean ok, i mean that the rooms are clean, nice beds, comfortable, nothing spectacular, but i was very happy with it, the hotel itself is beautiful and well placed to everything in town, all walkable, or rent a scooter, which is right next door, couldn't be more convenient! Hope i helped !

This is a great, though expensive hotel. Facilities are excellent and as well the sister hotel cros the water is available. we had real problems though with the credit card guarantees that the hotel sought when we checked in. they pre-allocated a large sum of credit and thn could not capture it on checkout, this meant that we couldn't use the card again and had to pay by different means. All of this would have been ok but for the very disappointing style and atitude of the hotel in deaing with us - we were investing $7000 in them and we were treated very rudely. This was not the type of service i expect from a 5 star hotel.

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Bermuda and had a wonderful time. We typically prefer smaller, more intimate hotels but our travel agent convinced us to go with the Fairmont. And we are happy we did. The hotel facilities were pleasant and acceptable but the staff were exceptional and very helpful. We left the camera in the taxi and the doorman, Carvel, went out of his way to locate the taxi and get the camera for us. He also directed us to great beaches and decent restaurants. This was a vacation we'll always cherish because it was a celebration of my retirement--and Carvel made all the difference between our typical vacations and this very special one.

If you have business to do in Hamilton Bermuda, this is a good choice. If you are on a family vacation, find another hotel. It is a very large, reasonably well run place, but has little flavor of the Island. There is a pool overlooking the harbour. The restaurants had reasonably good generic food , but nothing at all special. Whether you are there for business or vacation, the extra charge for the "Gold" rooms was a rip off. The Gold Lounge is very beautiful and historic - a pleasure to spend some time in. Check-in was efficient and the concierge services fine. But the complimentary breakfast and hors-d''oeuvres served in that room had a cheap and unwelcome feel. The breakfast was pathetic: a choice of cheese and coldmeats, cereal, some mediocre unripe fruit, and a single hot dish -- one day eggs on codfish (this must be an acquired taste), another pancakes, etc. The coffee kept running out and the wait staff didn't care. The hors-d''oeuvres were gone within a few minutes and replenished only once - except for the cubes of cheese cubes and crackers. I'd rather have paid and had something good. All in all a large luxury hotel, clean and efficient, but not worth the price unless you have business in Bermuda.

We stayed here in June, having not been back to Bermuda in 17 years but having good memories of the Princess. My father had our family together for a brief vacation together - kids, spouses and all - and really wanted it to be special. It was notable but for all the wrong reasons.
All of us had to wait well past check-in at 3 for our rooms. We got our room first - it was dirty (hair in the tub, candy bar wrappers on the floor) and dank. Two towels and washcloths - no bathmat or handtowels and a very slippery bathroom floor. No robes as advertised. My parents waited several hours longer and in the process of trying to get them a room they were given keys to a room that hadn't been touched by housekeeping. Free drinks were offered as a consolation, then a reduction in the bill of $250. Housekeeping was terrible throughout the property - when we asked the housekeepers for a bathmat (not having received on as we requested during the first evening) they told us we would only get one if they didn't run out before they got to our room. We were finally upgraded to a nice suite - just a little rundown but it had 2(!) bathmats. The suite was nice but I would have been a lot happier with a smooth check-in and clean room from the start.
The business center is a joke - 2 of the 3 computers were down while we were there and the printer was out of ink - not fixed over the course of the week.
The front desk and management staff were very pleasant and did try to resolve our problems but they were completely overmatched by the hotel systems and housekeeping staff, who did not appear to care much about cleaning or service.
I would not choose to spend money again on any rooms at the Princess and will be looking for another place to stay next time I go to Bermuda.
