We booked based on what everyone else had said - tripadvisor you let us down. Upstairs is probably fine because that is where the owner lives. We recognized the pictures of the furniture ostensibly for the apartment downstairs actually upstairs in the B&B part. The stuff in the apartment was battered and rickety and very dirty. We killed dozens and dozens of bugs every night .. It was so hot and we were admonished not to use the couple of ancient window air conditioners but all of the window screens were ripped with holes if they were there at all. The kitchen was infested with critters that skittered all over and especially in the cupboards below. We resorted to cleaning cups and putting them in the fridge to keep clean and stay clean. Couldnt take it and left after a few days although we had planned to stay a week. Have to say we did get our money back for the days we didn't stay which was nice. Fortunately though the cost for rooms on sale at a very nice hotel on the other side of the island was the same cost as what we were being charged here in cash. All I can say is that we have a different definition of sanitary conditions and hordes of critters isnt our idea of a nice place to stay for a vacation. Yes there is water nearby but that is the marina where boats dock and the ferry comes in ... You'll probably notice the oil slicks on the water which just isn't the choicest health spot for swimming.

Room Tip: Upstairs seems way cleaner

Although I emailed Shelley for our reservations when we arrived she was off Bermuda on vacation, so I can only speak to the accomodations themselves and not to the hospitality that everyone else raved about. As stated by others St George is a great place to stay. Small, easy to get around, historic and hospitable. The Cottage is in an excellent location (although a bit difficult to find the first time) easy to get to the ferry. bus, TI office as well as numerous restaurants and bars. However....we found the place in need of a good scrubbing especially the bathroom and the nooks and crannys. The Queen bed was very soft and the sheets felt damp which made the sleeping somewhat uncomfortable. Fortuantly we had the place to ourselves but had someone else been in the other room I'm not sure how comfortable we would have been with sharing our accomodations with strangers. Overall not a bad value considering Bermudas price and good location. So just depends on what your looking for.

Room Tip: 2 rooms each sharing a common area. 1 has 2 twins and the other a queen.

You couldn't do better than staying at Shelley's B&B. It's conveniently located in short walking distance to St. George's town square and ferry service. The accommodations are first rate, clean and lovely. You couldn't ask for a nicer, more attentive hostess than Shelley. The cost is also extremely reasonable. You can't do any better even paying lots more. I highly recommend this B&B with no reservations.

Room Tip: If you need separate beds, be sure to ask for the Purple Room. Everything is exactly as shown in th...

We are just back from a fabulous week in Bermuda where we stayed with Shelley and her daughter in Samaritans Cottage.
We had never been to Bermuda before so took pot luck on the accommodation, but I’m so glad we chose Samaritan’s Cottage. If we are ever lucky enough to go back I wouldn’t hesitate in booking this place again.
First St Georges is beautiful. If you want to see the real, historic Bermuda, consider staying in St Georges. Maybe not as big as Hamilton, or as touristy as Dockyard, but there are plenty of interesting shops and great restaurants, with regular buses and ferries to get around to the rest of the island. It is also close to the airport (but not so close that the planes disturb you).
As other reviewers have said, if you want swanky hotels with private pools, beaches, golf courses etc, this is not the place for you. But if you want inexpensive comfort and a friendly welcome, you can’t do better.
Shelly has two rooms (a twin and a double) which both adjoin a shared sitting room. Her private house also adjoins this sitting room, but the door was never closed. All guests are treated almost as part of the family and socialising is encouraged.
She also has a two bedroomed, self-catering apartment in the basement of her house and this is where our family of four (kids aged 11 and 13) stayed. This apartment is huge. There is air conditioning in the bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a large sitting room. There is also free WiFi, a TV, DVD and lots of films, though we never quite found the time to turn that on! The décor could maybe do with a bit of touching up and be aware there are no laundry facilities but, when you consider how precious (and expensive) Bermuda’s water is, this is not surprising. If you do run out of clean clothes during your stay, there is a laundrette about 30 yards away.
The cottage is also perfectly positioned. You couldn’t get closer to the ferry terminal and the main square of St Georges, the shops and restaurants are a very short walk away. Don’t be put off by the lack of pool either; our kids spent most of their free time swimming in the sea about 50 yards away.
All in all, a perfect stay on a beautiful island made even better by the great new friends we made.

I had the pleasure of staying at Samaritan's Cottage in early June with my sister for four nights. This was our first visit to Bermuda and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely historic B&B! We were instantly welcomed by Shelly and her daughter who gave us all the information we needed to get around there. She was more than accommodating....she drove us all around the island and gave us a bit of history, plus showed us all the beaches we later enjoyed. She even provided all the gear....chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling gear......She recommended some good restaurants...we loved Wahoo by the way....it was tough getting a reservation there and Shelly worked her magic and got us in somehow. We stayed in the Orange Room and loved the private backyard, plus the wine and good conversation we shared with her during the evenings...She and JB also offered to take us out fishing which was a nice gesture but the rains came......We had an early flight and she was kind enough to take us to the airport.......Great location for a visit, and just unbeatable hospitality.....If I get the chance to return to Bermuda, this is place I plan on going back to!!
