“Dolly (the delightful) Circus Wagon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Well we completely fell in love with Dolly during our fantastic week at Ffynnon Fendigaid. She was full of character, cosy and surprisingly spacious. We had no problem unpacking all our clothes into her well thought out storage drawers and cupboards. The kitchen was a good size and had everything we needed. The bathroom was modern and clean.

The grounds of Ffynnon Fendigaid are beautiful and we took full advantage of them one day when we went for a summers evening stroll in search of the pond, armed with a bottle of red and two glasses. Mowed paths, lined with head height purple foxgloves and grasses lead us through a maze of winding walkways; we felt like big kids discovering a secret garden, simply idyllic.

As we luckily chose to take our holiday during a heat wave, we were able to make the most of the very local beautiful sandy beaches. Penbryn beach is secluded and quiet and it is worth taking the walk down through the trees, passed the waterfall to get to the sand. We also visited LLangrannog which has a few eateries overlooking the beach (a great place to go in an evening for a drink and stroll to watch the sunset, we saw dolphins here one evening too!). Poppit Sands was another great beach we visited; a vast sandy beach with beautiful blue still water and a good cafe. I would recommend visiting New Quay as well.

We found plenty to do other than beaches. In particular I would recommend ‘Sculpture Heaven’ about 5 mins drive from Dolly.

We cannot fault our holiday to Dolly. She was novel and charming and the area was fantastic! Pretty much perfect!

We will be back!

My partner booked this for my birthday as a surprise, previous to our visit she had told me that she had asked them if they could put up some bunting as a small gesture, which they refused as they lived too far away. My partner understood this but this did not show to begin with an 'above and beyond' mentality.

We settled into the lovely cabin, with great décor and views, it had plenty of utensils and everything you would need for a comfortable stay, including a fantastic fire place. It was a great area to explore a lot of what west Wales has to offer (check out Caws Cenarth nearby!).

However, after our first night my partner was making the bed when she came across two pairs of dirty underwear (which didn't belong to either of us) which showed the cleanliness of the bedroom. It then became apparent that a lot of the cabin was unclean and dusty (including the kitchen utensils). We understand that it is the last people's responsibility to clean up after themselves but surely the housekeeper should check that the cleanliness of the cabin is suitable for the next people to arrive? To add to this, there were stains on pillows and tables were pretty much dust-ridden.

This is not a personal attack, we would definitely without question recommend this place to friends, but we felt that we needed to point this out so that it would maybe not happen again in the future.

My mother and i spent the last night of our week in Wales at this Guest House.

The bedrooms are an absolute delight with very comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms.

Breakfast was delicious and use of local products ensure that this is above the usual Guest House quality.

I took a walk around the garden and lakes listening to the bird song and found the whole place a delight.

Situated close to beautiful beaches and set in very rural surroundings this place would suit those who are at one with nature but enjoy lifes luxuries.

Room Tip: Of the two rooms that we occupied one was more sleek and modern with a firm bed and the other more c...

We spent a week in the cottage that adjoins this B&B and really enjoyed it. It was beautifully decorated, spacious, and with a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances and everything we needed. The bed was comfy, the setting wonderful, and we would love to return some day.

This was return visit to Fynnon Fendigaid, as we previously stayed here for a weekend getaway last year . This time we stayed for longer. Prior to our arrival Huw had sent through a list of restaurants that he recommended, to suit all budgets & tastes. We received a warm and friendly welcome, with fresh coffee & cake on arrival. We were in a different room this time (King), but it was again of an exceptional high standard, & the ensuite was very high spec. Although the B&B rooms and the cottage were occupied, you would never know as the area remained tranquil. Exploring the garden or sitting by the lake, you find an oasis of calm with just the birdsong breaking the silence. We were told that there was an otter living by the lake (and had eaten all the stock of fish), but he remained elusive. We also had the time to use the excellent library of books on the landing. We have family nearby, so will definitely use this as our base when visiting from now on. Huw & David are excellent hosts.
We also had the chance to view the cottage when it had been vacated. This 4 bed cottage is of the highest standard I have ever seen in a holiday cottage, & would not look out of place in the finest style magazine. I would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: The blue room is larger with elegant antique furniture and a large ensuite shower room. The King roo...

We have just returned from a nights stay in Dolly. It was my husbands birthday surprise. If you want to stay in something a bit different you wont go wrong with Dolly. great decor and furnishings and has been renovated extremely well . directions where given to us by Huw via email and were easy and spot on. we were met by Huw who showed us around Dolly and explained everything to us . the bathroom is excellent with high spec fittings and loads of hot water. we were surprised at the quality of the kitchen and utensils everything you need. just wish we could have stayed longer maybe next time.
only one negative! we couldnt find a pen to write in the visitors book
Dolly is not suitable for any one with mobility issues as there are stairs up into dolly and the bathroom is outside, but you could stay in the b and b which looked as lovely .if you want a romantic or get away from it all break a bit different Dolly is for you

Friendly welcome from Huw, lovely room with great taste in decor and furnishings, not your bog-standard bathroom fittings either. Powerful power-shower, often the subject of negative reviews, but not here (although it took a minute or so to work out that you turned the lever anti-clockwise!). Great breakfast, lovely lounge with big tv (not that we watched it) and a landing with plenty of interesting books to sit in the beautiful gardens with. A lake to sit by as well, very tranquil for those who are seeking an oasis of calm with not a sound of passing traffic. Having read other reviews we wish we had time to take Huw up on his offer of a pot of tea on arrival, as his white chocolate cake sounds worth the journey (over 7 hours for us!). The gypsy caravan looks a romantic option and the cottage also looks a good place to stay if you want a bit more privacy. Great value for money as we paid £5 less for a much less impressive room in Hereford after we moved on.

If you're contemplating booking accommodation in this area, book here now and you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: Room 1 is very tasteful, a nice shade of grey! The comment about the swimming pool is tongue in chee...
