We have visited Aruba for 8 years now.
This year we decided to pamper ourselves with a more expensive apartment.
To make sure we had the biggest apartment. We booked in December 2007. When we arrived, this was already rented out. The apartments are a bit isolated, but we thought this would be a nice opportunity to just enjoy our stay on Aruba in peace and quiet.
The apartments are nice, the complex is a bit worn-down, but you can still see some of it’s old glory.
The nearby beach is rocky, and the water is very shallow. Fortunately there is a nice laguna on walking distance. Just keep a close eye on your belongings when you go there! We have lost our beachbag and some towels to probably a local bum.
We rented a car to be able to do some shopping since the nearby little supermarket does not have a whole lot to offer.
The isolation and peace and tranquility became less appealing after our car was broken into 3 times in one week and our apartment was emptied once.
Some tourists we met on the beach told us this was a common problem in that area of the island.
We decided we better move to another, safer complex, closer to the tourist area. We lost the down payment since we were the ones who decided to leave but we’ll survive. A more experienced staff would probably have handled this differently, but hey, we have 3 weeks left of our holiday and do not plan to spoil our holiday just for one less experience.
To us, Aruba is still one happy island!
