We stayed at La Cabana Feb 27-Mar 6, 2009 for our honeymoon. I knew they were renovating but unfortunately our exchange through Interval International assigned us to an old room. When we entered the room, the first thing that hit us was the smell. Horrible mold and/or mildew smell. We sat in the room for about 10 minutes before my husband decided we needed to speak to the desk worker. Nick, who checked us in, was very understanding when we explained the situation and told him we were on our honeymoon. We were moved to a new room (renovated) which had a partial ocean view. The renovated rooms are beautiful! There's a small kitchen which served its' purpose. We had some breakfasts, lunch and even dinner in our room, actually while lounging on the balcony.
The pool is beautiful with a water slide for the young at heart. Never had a problem finding a lounge chair no matter what time of day. Pool bar service is fast. The jacuzzi felt great also. The beach is right across the street from La Cabana. We didn't have a problem getting beach chairs since the beach isn't crowded at all.
We ate at the Islander Restaurant and the food and service were great.
The bus stop is right outside La Cabana. We took the bus downtown and to the high rise section on many occasions.
Guest services were very helpful. They made dinner reservations for us and we were able to book a few excursions through Pelican Adventures, located in the lobby.
To get a discount on one of our excursions, we went to a timeshare tour. We already own elsewhere, so we knew we weren't buying. Rosa was our sales associate; friendly and personable. They are persistent with the sales pitch; so if you don't want to be pressured, don't go. We firmly said no after they made quite a few different offers, and that was that.
The Key Largo casino is within walking distance of La Cabana, or you could take the golf cart shuttle from in front of the Aruban, which is right across from La Cabana. We had so much fun in the casino. The first person we met, a bartender named Clemence, was very friendly and even told my husband where he could get a haircut downtown. The dealers, Rocky, Elvis, Bianca, Sharif, and Roland were so much fun. We were on first name basis with them. If you go there, tell them Mike and Carla (honeymooners) said hello and we'll see them next year. Everyone is so friendly in Aruba. They say it's "one happy island" and I see why.
We dined at Madame Janettes, El Gaucho, Iguana Joes, and Casa Tua. All of the restaurants were amazing. I would go back in a heartbeat. We did the Beach and Cave Tour as well as the ATV tour with Four Wheelin' It. We had a blast. Definitely recommend both.
Overall, La Cabana was a lovely place to stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our honeymoon.
