“Beautiful Honeymoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2009

We stayed at La Cabana Feb 27-Mar 6, 2009 for our honeymoon. I knew they were renovating but unfortunately our exchange through Interval International assigned us to an old room. When we entered the room, the first thing that hit us was the smell. Horrible mold and/or mildew smell. We sat in the room for about 10 minutes before my husband decided we needed to speak to the desk worker. Nick, who checked us in, was very understanding when we explained the situation and told him we were on our honeymoon. We were moved to a new room (renovated) which had a partial ocean view. The renovated rooms are beautiful! There's a small kitchen which served its' purpose. We had some breakfasts, lunch and even dinner in our room, actually while lounging on the balcony.

The pool is beautiful with a water slide for the young at heart. Never had a problem finding a lounge chair no matter what time of day. Pool bar service is fast. The jacuzzi felt great also. The beach is right across the street from La Cabana. We didn't have a problem getting beach chairs since the beach isn't crowded at all.

We ate at the Islander Restaurant and the food and service were great.

The bus stop is right outside La Cabana. We took the bus downtown and to the high rise section on many occasions.

Guest services were very helpful. They made dinner reservations for us and we were able to book a few excursions through Pelican Adventures, located in the lobby.

To get a discount on one of our excursions, we went to a timeshare tour. We already own elsewhere, so we knew we weren't buying. Rosa was our sales associate; friendly and personable. They are persistent with the sales pitch; so if you don't want to be pressured, don't go. We firmly said no after they made quite a few different offers, and that was that.

The Key Largo casino is within walking distance of La Cabana, or you could take the golf cart shuttle from in front of the Aruban, which is right across from La Cabana. We had so much fun in the casino. The first person we met, a bartender named Clemence, was very friendly and even told my husband where he could get a haircut downtown. The dealers, Rocky, Elvis, Bianca, Sharif, and Roland were so much fun. We were on first name basis with them. If you go there, tell them Mike and Carla (honeymooners) said hello and we'll see them next year. Everyone is so friendly in Aruba. They say it's "one happy island" and I see why.

We dined at Madame Janettes, El Gaucho, Iguana Joes, and Casa Tua. All of the restaurants were amazing. I would go back in a heartbeat. We did the Beach and Cave Tour as well as the ATV tour with Four Wheelin' It. We had a blast. Definitely recommend both.

Overall, La Cabana was a lovely place to stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our honeymoon.

I just came back from la cabanna and it was my forth time in the building. When I have stayed there other times i have stayed at La cabana villas which is now the Aruban Resort and casino. This hotel has many family activities, and you can also just loung and sit by the pool/beach. The staff and guests/owners you meet at La cabana are all great and very nice. La Cabana's rooms are very big but could use a little work (they are working on renovations). The suites have at least 2 tvs, a king size bed, a queen size pull out couch, a full refridgerator, microwave, stove top, at least one bathroom with hair dryers, tubs, and they supply there own soaps (clearly visible in the rooms.) the studios have at least 1 murphy bed, a queen pull out, at least one tv, and every thing else a suite has. (including a kitchen) the resort has a few resturants but only two accual sit in resturants. there is las ramblas, the islander grill, cinnabon, carvel, sbarro and an ice cream shop named frace. The resort behind lacabana (the Aruban) also has a few resturants and a casino that la cabana can use. there is a nicer much bigger casino on the way but for now the smaller one is all ther is. the beach is right in front of the resort and is very big. There are watersports and many huts to go and sit under. the hotell is 5 minutes (driving) from the strip of hotels and resturants. the hotell has one LARGE pool the has a slide and lots of other room in it for kids and adults. there are kids and adult activities, almost every hour that in cludes happy hour qhich has entertainment every afternoon. there is also one arcade and a shopping arcade and a small minimarket that is VERY expensive. If you are looking for a very fun vacation and great time go to la cabana in aruba!!!

La Cabana is in the process of upgrading and doing a great job. First of all the beach -- one of the best on the island -- has larger "huts" and many more of them and the bar on the beach is open again. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and they are very nice -- big screen TV, dishwasher, microwave & convection oven, refrigerator and a large walk-in shower in the bath. There are only two restaurants open at La Cabana now -- one patio type with an ocean view and the large, screened breakfast & lunch restaurant by the pool.

I found the personnel very pleasant and helpful. Two years ago there was a problem with flies and a smell from the nearby sewage facility. We didn't go back last year for that reason. It all seems to be taken care of and back to normal.

Things on the island are a tiny bit more expensive. They are concerned about a decline in tourism and the effect on their economy. Several restaurants were out of business and there seemed to be less shoppers in the downtown area.

Aruba is still a beautiful island with welcoming people and La Cabana is a comfortable, casual hotel offering a small kitchen for quick meals or snacks. We look forward to going back next year.

While vacationing in Aruba and hanging out on Eagle Beach we found a little hut - Julio Watersports. We booked all of our weeks activities with Julio. They offer ATV tours, Jolly Pirate cruises, banana boating, water tubing, snorkeling, etc. You name it Julio offers it! Julio along with the guys working for him were GREAT. Very honest, trusting and ALOT of fun. I definelty recommend while vacationing in Aruba to take advantage of what Julio Watersports located right on the beach has to offer!!

We stayed in this timeshare resort for a week in December. Our suite had recently been renovated, which was nicely done. The bedroom was very small but there was ample closet space and a flat-screen television was above the dresser, facing the bed. There are two night tables and a safe inside the mirrored closet. The bathroom was first rate. Little kitchen area in the living room had new appliances and small granite countertop. Living room had pull-out sofa, coffee table, chair. Kitchen table had four chairs and flat-screen above it. Very cramped but neat and clean. We did not use our balcony because it faced the construction site next door. Our main problem with the place is the lobby, which is not only freezing, but dreary, dark and dreadful. There is a tacky Carvel/Cinnabon stand in the lobby with plastic moulded chairs. Really depressing and low-class. The desk personnel are pleasant but agonizingly slow. There is a Sunday roast beef buffet in the dining room down the hall which was actually good, but the room is also dark and dingy. I felt like I was in a church basement. Pool and beach areas, however, are great. Water aerobics at 10 a.m., Bingo, etc. Good bar scene with a band every afternoon. Good beach towel policy. But in the afternoons locals come and set up table after table of unmitigated crap to sell. Ridiculous, annoying, and tacky. While we like the location of La Cabana, away from the hustle and bustle of the high rise hotels, it is no Marriott.

  • Liked — Beautiful beach, nice pool area, well done renovation
  • Disliked — Tacky and low class but may be better after renovations

We own a week at the La Cabana resort since 2000. We have been there every year since. We have a larger unit E category, ocean view. It's close to the pool, but far enough to have peace and quiet on the balcony.

The units were remodeled in 2007, except for the bathrooms. The furnishings are very nice and the kitchen cabinets are beautiful.

In the summertime the place is filled with locals, so the pool will be full of kids.

The beach is accross the street. The beach is white and there is a volley ball court on the sand. Everyday you will find people playing there.

On the beach there is also a hut for water-sports activities, like banana-boat rides, para-sailing, etc.

Good restaurants within walking distance:
- Le Petit Cafe (next door at Paradise Beach Villas)
- Blue Marlin Restaurant (Key Largo Casino)

  • Liked — Location, ambiance around the pool, hotel activities
  • Disliked — When the hotel is fully booked, it can feel crowded at the pool.

This was week of our timeshare and it was wasted. The room was right across from the Hotels air conditioning fans and laundry room which goes 24-7. It sounded like a jet plane winding up to take off...but it never did! The room was a dissapointement, old furniture and curtins which did not close all the way. The kitchen galley was like out of a trailer with sagging shelves in the cabinets. When you turned the light on for the bathroom the fan raddled loudly. The balcony was only large enough to walk one person at a time and then you were trapped. The railing was pvc pipping and I would worry about anyone leaning against it. Falling would be easy. The front door was ovbiously rapaired as it had a huge crack around the door handle and you could see daylight when the door was closed.
When we went down to see about changing room, as no one could sleep. They said the manager would call us a 10am and we waited and waited, no call to us. We went into their restaraunt and my husband had the continental breakfast. I was to upset so I did not want breakfast. He gave me a piece of his toast. Then we had to search for the waiter and ended going up to the checkout counter and the hottees got if for us, and proceeded to yell at us because I had the piece of toast. Very unfriendly people. At the front desk they all but ignored us and did not want to help us with a change of room. At that point we left and went to The Amsterdam Inn, wonderful friendly place right next door! They did not care about our vacation at all. They seemed like they wanted to ruin it. No thanks to them we took controll and left and had a great week.
