After encountering the same sort of menu over and over at every tourist restaurant on the island, Ike's was an incredibly refreshing change. It's the only place on the island to get Mediterranean flavors, which is exactly what we were craving after so many heavy meals. The chef puts a focus on ingredients and each dish is full of flavor, carefully constructed and elegantly presented.
The caprese salad was a work of art, fresh and flavorful. The shrimp with risotto was perfectly rich without being too heavy. The catch of the day was prepared simply and expertly. And even dessert (chocolate cake with ice cream) was masterfully made and presented. The setting is a little corny and clearly has not caught up with the sophistication of the food, but it's absolutely worth a trip. It was by far the best meal we had in Aruba.
Chef Ever de Pena is young and very talented. Eat here now before he gets scooped up by another restaurant.
