“Loud Lazy River Pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

We enjoyed our Stay at the Lovely and Beautiful Marriott property. We highly recommend this hotel as one of the best resorts Aruba has to offer. While staying, you can't miss the Great Lazy River pool. While we were on Holiday, the other pool was under construction. We had no other choice but to lounge around all day in the Lazy Rivier. Unfortuantely, durring our Stay, there was this obnoxious group from NJ BLASTING their music and singing all day. It appeared as though they were intoxicated everyday. Aside from this annoying group, we highly recommend Marriott Aruba as a destination for you to see.

More than anything else we wanted to give a great review on the newly renovated Fitness center. We have visited this property several times and have taken advantage of the fitness center and programs. The Staff member Sandra Denise Adams was as usual quite friendly and very helpful. what an added delight to our vacation.. Thanks sincerely to Sandra..

Room Tip: All rooms are great here.. You will return every year like we do

We're staying here, Sept. 26-Oct. 3. Tomorrow's our last full day. We've had a great time at the pools and eating at the pool grill. It's the beginning of low season, so it's not really crowded. The beach is really nice and we love being able to walk to the shopping area each night and have an assortment of restaurants to choose from. Our favorite is Iguana Cantina, which overlooks the plaza which features a water/music show each evening. Waiter Jorge there is our favorite! Our four-year-old grandson loves the Surf Club's water slide and kids' place, where he made a necklace and baked cookies. Water aerobics in the morning is something I look forward to. Also, the Surf Club's daily iguana feeding is a big heat, for young and old. Would highly recommend the DePalma snorkling and snuba day trip and the jeep trip around the island. The butterfly farm is a great trip as well as the submarine trip, which my grandson loved. All in all, it's a great place to vacation, with quality rooms and features and friendly staff.

Just returned last night from the Surf Club and wanted to report back before the hectic life that we left behind blurred our wonderful memories of Aruba. We were fortunate to have had an extended stay in Aruba this year, and also the opportunity to stay at all three Marriott resorts on Palm Beach during our visit. This was our third time at the Surf Club.

We stayed at the Surf Club through Interval International and were given a two bedroom villa overlooking the Marriott Ocean Club and the beach. Honestly, the view from this side of the "Lighthouse" building is much better than the poolside villas as the pool side overlooks half-built buildings that will never be finished and abandoned lots. In addition, it is quieter.

I will not discuss the check-in protocol because it has been re-hashed ad nauseum before. Suffice to say that it is horrible; made worse by a front desk staff that, although pretty friendly, moves at a snail pace. One solution would be to pay them based on the number or speed in which they process guests.

The villas are all pretty standard for a time-share type layout; with a master bedroom attached to the kitchen/dining/living room, and a lockout room. The Surf Club space seems a tad larger than the Ocean units. Since this is a very busy resort, the units are starting to look a little worn around the edes. This is especially noticed around the trim and general touch-up painting. Lots of drips/ overpainting that just makes it look a little beat up. In general, still in pretty good shape.

One thing that has always annoyed us at Surf Club is the master bathroom lighting design. It is ridiculous. The tub is in the bedroom like most other similar resorts that we have visited. But you can only turn the light on to the bath from the living room or in the middle of the mater bedroom. There are no swiches inside the bathroom itself. So in the middle of the night you either have to pee in the dark after tripping over everything, or wake up your partner in the master bed or guests that might be sleeping in the living room. Could never figure out why they didn't just put a light switch in the bathroom. The other minor issue is that there is no magnifying mirror for make-up or contacts. One would think that a class organization like Marriott would not overlook this basic amenity.

As I stated above, this is a busy resort. My parents are owners and return every January. So our first experience in Aruba was a few years ago at the Surf Club, during their busiest time of the year. Simply put, that is why we now visit in September or October...and it is still quite busy (the winter months are insane here). Despite the crowds, I am always amazed at how friendly the entire work staff is. Really quite a pleasant suprise.

The beach/ palapa issue has also been reviewed extensively. I will say that it isn't as crowded for beach huts during the off-season. There were plenty to be had after the first three rows. Honestly, we always travel with friends that own at the ocean-club. So we use their palapa instead. Ocean club is smaller with the same sized beach. So naturally, folks are a little more spread out. Which is nice. The food at the swim-up bar is also much better/diverse at the ocean Club.

Check-out was easier this year as we used the "express check-out". We also took advantage of the updated locker rooms. They are equipped with wood lockers, lots of towels, and shower supplies. There we could store our belongings, grab a shower, and change before leaving the resort after a morning at the beach.

All in all, the Surf Club is a nice property. Typical of all Marriott locations. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax, stay at the Marriott Stellaris hotel right down the beach. It is our favorite of the three and have stayed there a number of times. Really nicely updated rooms, huge pool, and great restaurants..all at $160/night. But if you are travelling with kids or like an active vacation with lots of similar folks, you will like the Surf Club.

We just returned from a week at the Surf Club having had a 2 bd 2 bath on a trade thru Interval. We arrived and checking in was quick and easy. We rented a car and were glad we did. Airport transfer are $30 each way so for $210 we had our own transportation for the week. We went to the Super foods and stocked up on supplies. Adult beverages can add up at the resort so making our own saved us lots of money. A case of Bud beer was $48 at the grocery which is only $2 a beer verses $4-$6 a piece everywhere else. As far as eating out .. There are numerous choices from $10 sandwich to what ever you want to spend ... The weather was very hot and mostly sunny .. We never had the first rain drop all week. The resort is beautiful...pools lovely ... Staff fabulous and friendly ... Rooms are spacious and equipped with all the essentials you need. We have absolutely NO complaints and the Surf Club owns up to the Marriott standards. With having a car we were able to drive the whole island and snorkel several beaches. We visited the National Park and toured the caves, we had no trouble getting around the terrain but at times you need to drive really slow and work your way thru. Just use common sense and you should be fine. The pool with the swim up bar is back up and running and is just beautiful at night with the blue lights they have the water lit up with. We are not sit by the pool kind of people, we prefer the beach and the sand, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves .. The lazy river was fun for a cool down then back to the palapa and sand. The reserving of chairs was not that bad. At 4:00 PM you can reserve for the next morning but the options are limited. Then at 7:00 AM the reservations begin and the choices open up to several more options. The line begins quite early I am told but I was never down there until after 7 and usually got a palapa in the 3 rd row, we were more than content with that. Met several very nice people and enjoyed the conversation . If you are interested in having fresh fish.. You can go out on the pier when the fishing boats come in and they will sell you the catch of the day and even clean it and cut it into fillets. The resort has a nice grill area to prepare it but I suggest you bring a bottle of spices If you feel this may be an option you want to try.
Two doors down from the Marriott is a nice little bar on the beach and the food was really good and cheap. Over all our experience was very good...we had a fantastic time :) I would recommend the Marriott Surf Club to everyone ... The people were genuine and very friendly and helpful from staff to guests ... Don't hesitate to book at this resort...it was fabulous. We have traveled to many islands and resorts and this rates right up there...enjoy your stay and if I can be of any further help , don't hesitate to send me your questions :) I will answer what I can ... Cheers !!!

The staff was great, service beyond compare. Breakfast Buffett at la Vista was the best ever.
You name it fruit, smoothies, omelettes, pastries fresh baked each day.
The Lazy River a great way to relax and float to nowhere.
Shared a suite and guest room with friends. The common space was was great. Kitchen well equipped, living room was a great place to relax.
Will go back in a heart beat.

Room Tip: Fourth floor in the Spy Glass Tower. Over looking lazy river.
