“Would definitely return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013 via mobile

My party of 6 adults stayed here from June 15-22. We arrived about 3:30 and got our villa right away. They explained about the chair tags and bracelets and told us how to get to our villa in the Lighthouse Tower. I thought the rooms were very well appointed. I liked the furnishings (nautical style), the beds were comfy, and the kitchen was more than adequate for our needs. Our villa had a beautiful ocean view with a table and 4 chairs on the patio which I used in the AM to read while everyone slept.

Pros: lots of space in villa, Serenity pool, market, air pumps for rafts, outdoor BBQ grills, kitchen
Cons: concierge is not a Marriott concierge, hard to find chairs even as early as 9 am, drink and food prices at pool

A little bit more about the concierge. They work for De Palm tours and are not impartial. If you want to do something and they have the tour that is what they will recommend - they will not give you options if they offer the tour. They are great for making dining reservations, etc, but do your homework ahead of time in case there is another tour operator out there who also has what you want and may be less expensive.

Observation: if you plan to go exploring and out to dinner a lot it is more than likely more economical to rent a car than pay for bus and taxis all week- especially with more than 5 people because then you will need 2 taxis as they can only take a max of 5 passengers per taxi. Our transportation fees for the week were easily $300.

We had great service while there and did not get asked to go to the timeshare presentation (we rented from an owner). The marketplace had a very good assortment of dry and cold pantry items as well as bakery items, sandwiches, and ice cream and their prices were decent.

Others have said it is easy to get a chair, but we did not find this to be true. Even at 9 am 80 percent of chairs at the Serenity pool had tags on them and did not have people occupying them until about 11.

Just went with my husband, 2 kids, in-laws and sister-in-law for a week. Fantastic! Loved the pool area and location. Very friendly staff and island. Great for families. Look forward to going back every year!

The employees at Marriott's Surf Club are amazing. They go above and beyond to make sure your vacation was perfect. I lost $140.00 cash by the pool and a security guard found it and turned it in. From on side of the hotel to the other the grounds are spotless and beautiful. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay at this location. I will stay here on my next visit to Aruba.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 5th floor right over the swim up bar and it was prefect. Three of us stayed in...

We own with marriott and traded for our week at the surf club. We loved staying there. Upsides were:

1. The lazy river. Great place to hang out. Never over crowded by our standards.

2. Easy to find chairs any time. If you wanted the perfect spot then you had to get up early. We never had a problem. I think any complaints are misguided.

3. Great location. We loved moomba that was just down the beach. Easy to get to. Great place.

4. Rooms were clean and comfortable as usual. The super foods grocery was convenient and a great place to get all kinds of food.

5. Lots to do. Cooked. Did water sports. Played tennis and shuffleboard. Never bored.

A few minor issues:

1. Very windy. Sometimes uncomfortable. Particularly in the parking lot.

2. Casino area in the hotel smells terribly of smoke. Even the areas around it

3. They can't make a decent drink. Stick to wine and beer.

Overall, a great vacation. We would return any time.

We were here for a week from May 31st to June 7th and loved every minute of it. We are Marriott time share owners and exchanged for this vacation. I have already banked my week for next year and can only hope I can get back to Aruba! The Surf Club is a beautiful property. Grounds are immaculate and iguanas are plentiful! The staff is very friendly. We were greeted with smiles and hellos from everyone. The housekeeping staff left us presents and flowers. We spent our time on the beach, and not at the pool. Chairs were plentiful in the pool area, but you need to be an early bird to get one. We at lunch on the beach a couple of times and the food was outstanding. They feature daily drink specials, so be sure and ask your server. Be sure to participate in some of the fun daily activities!

I stayed here in early June for one week in a one bedroom villa. I had asked our children to join us and arranged for them and their partners to share a two bedroom villa. I had requested the Marriott to arrange to have our rooms near each other since this was a family vacation. They were great and the rooms were on the same floor just a couple of doors away. Everyone enjoyed the lazy river pool but we spent most of the day at the Serenity Pool which was quiet. I enjoyed the early morning "Stretch and Tone" class although management should clear the area of chairs prior to the class so that the instructor and guests don't have to rearrange things every day. The Zumba class was fun but very hot in it's outside location.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed lunch at the resort but went offsite for dinner. The concierge were not the most knowledgeable. We asked the location of a specific restaurant and they gave us a completely incorrect address. My son and his fiancé asked them about the various horse stables to see which would allow for a trot on the beach. They said they were not familiar with the horse stables. Thank goodness for the internet! It just seemed like they wanted to book tours.

Overall, everyone had a great time and asked when we were planning to return.

I absolutely loved this place. The entire staff was wonderful and we did not want for anything while we were there. It is right on the beach and the rooms are very spacious and clean. I think the lazy river is absolutely wonderful. I would stay on that from sunrise to sunset. The pizza special at the pool bar was also a great deal and the pool bar had reasonably priced drinks. I am trying to figure out if there is a room there that I could just hide out in and stay forever! I love this Marriott property!
