Here at the moment (19/06/08) - came on a last minute cheapy with first choice - so for what we paid its not bad. They are remodelling several rooms on a rolling basis - so as a package deal traveller you will be put in an old room with grotty carpet etc. We got ourselves moved after the first night - dont go on the 4th floor coz the bathroom extractors are just above you on the roof and make a din - also if you face south over the row of 3 restaurants they have live singing/music every night which can be loud! There is a spa being built by the pool so the builders there can be noisy if you are trying to nap on the sunbeds. The new floor has been laid in the reception area and they are now working on the the cofee shop which is closed. The aircon in the rooms while cooling the rooms fails dismally to extract the moisture from the air resulting in permanently damp feeling clothes - but if you come to the humid tropics then thats what you expect. Cant fault the water pressure however unlike other reviewers. Not seen the rooster by the pool but plenty of Iguanas and lizards. The beach is reasonable but everyone there is on the make - taking their cut of anything they can book for you. Oranjestad is a waste of a bus fare - unless you have a bottomless wallet and shop at the top end boutiques - otherwise its as crap as the poor end of Tottenham Court Road. The market and factory oulet on the way to the capital is a joke - bearing in mind that nothing is manufactured here how can they have a factory outlet? Its just the same rubbish as in the capital but more expensive. Bring your own tea and coffee and powdered milk because they dont get restocked in your room.
