“Great Vacation in Aruba!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

This was me and my husband's first time in Aruba and we had an awesome time! We took a cab for $25 from the airport to resort. When we arrived at Divi Phoenix for our 7-night vacation, we were greeted by a beautiful lobby and complimentary drinks.

We had a one bedroom with two bathrooms and balcony that overlooked the beautiful resort pools and beachside.

I'll go into the pros and cons as these types of reviews seem to be helpful.

Pros:
-Beautiful, clean resort on the beach - every time we walked out to the beach, we had no trouble finding a place to relax unlike what I read in the reviews. Saw a review about the seaweed but there were more areas without the seaweed and we had a great time in the water
-Well equipped kitchen in which we were able to cook throughout the week after going to the grocery, Super Market, which is nearby, for small amount of groceries, drinks and water.
-Location of resort is in high rise hotel area so options to explore other resort activities
-Quiet resort - This can be a pro if you want to relax and not into a party atmosphere
-Theme nights in the resort restaurants - Pure Beach and Pure Ocean, nice to have restaurants on site as a dining option
-There was a schedule of activities at the resort, including a nice party with complimentary drinks/beer and dancing. Other activities listed that I missed; dance lessons, aqua exercise and bingo. This is always nice for folks that just want to stay on site for the day.

Cons:
-Wifi was $15/day - that's pretty expensive when other resorts had free wifi either at the resort or in their lobby
-Nice to have the option of the washer/dryer combo in the room but it took hours to wash and dry clothing, so, we only used it one cycle. We tried to dry our swim gear but found hanging them on the tub easier.
-Quiet resort - This was a con when we really wanted to stay up later

Overall, we had a great time at Divi Phoenix and in Aruba. We did walk a lot on the beach and there were shops and restaurants nearby on the strip behind the hotels. If you want to go out for dancing, we went to Moomba Beach Bar and The Mill, which was open until 5am. At the end of our trip we rented a car and drove to Baby Beach where we rented snorkel equipment for $30, including life jackets. This beach was really nice and the snorkeling was great. Just bring a piece of bread, all kinds of beautiful fish that will swim round you. So mad we used up our water camera!

We will definitely have to come back! Would recommend the resort to my RCI owners.

Just enjoyed another great 2 week stay in Aruba with the first week at the DIVI Aruba Phoenix and the second week at the DIVI Dutch Village. Both complexes are very different! The Phoenix is at the beginning of the high-rise hotels and has a nice calm beach. New units, beautiful pool, good store for whatever you need, easy walk to other hotels and restaurants in the area. The only complaint was the restaurant 'Pure Beach' which we thought went downhill since we were there last year. Boring menu and not much to say about the food. The 'Pure Ocean' which was the old Sunset Bistro was much better and had a beautiful setting on the sand/ocean. We ate there twice and both nights they were hosting a wedding. Hope to be back next year!

Room Tip: The four Towers are the newest units and are only 6-7 yrs old. The 14 story original tower has grea...

I visited Aruba last week and stayed at the Divi Phoenix. I was very satisfied with the location. It was only a short walk from restaurants, bars and shops. Downtown is about a $15 cab ride. The resort is towards the end of the other high rises which was perfect. The beach and pools were not overcrowded in this area. It was not as busy and full of people as I am sure the other resorts where. I absolutely loved the room! We had everything we needed in the room. Fridge, stove, coffee maker and more. We went to the supermarket the first day we arrived. We stocked up on food and drinks. Rather than going out to eat 3 times a day, we decided we would make our own breakfast and lunch! We did eat at their poolside bar a time or two and the food was pretty good. I have to say, I wasn't crazy about their service. Some employees were pretty dull, not that firendly. However, others were helpful and pleasant. Also, check in was a bit annoying. We had to wait in line a bit to check in. The reosrt itself is very nice and clean. We had all the amenities we needed. I liked that they had hammocks and huts on the beach. Overall I was happy with my stay.

My wife an i just returned from the Divi Aruba Phoenix and we overall had a pleasant stay, but there were some issues that we had with the resort. For one we were considering upgrading our room to the "new" tower for an added 40$ per night so we went and compared the room. Well as some of the other posts have showed there was a distinct oder of mold in the new tower room. My wife and i were not going to stay in there especially for an added fee. We then went to the 14 story tower and found the room to be without any oder so we took it and came to find the the tub had jets in it which is the main reason we wanted to upgrade in the first place to the new tower. So on the first night in the room on the 4 floor of the old tower we were notified that our tub was leaking to the floor below. They offered to fix the tub but i insisted on another room instead of dealing with maintenance people to resolve the issue, which they should have offered to begin with. So we wound up on the 14 floor with the same exact room but a much better view. We really enjoyed the room from that point on with out many issues. On day 3 of our 5 day trip one of the other suites next to ours decided to cook bacon at 630 in the morning which set off the smoke alarm in there room for 20 minutes! so i woke up to see if there was an acutual fire and the person in that room had her door open and was just going about her business like there was no siren blaring. so i asked if everything was ok, she said she was cooking bacon and the alarm would not stop ringing. So i composed myself and decided to pretend there was no noise.. eventually it stopped and i was back to my slumber. Ofcourse this was not the fault of the resort but they were not there to inspect a possible fire after a 20 minute alarm...which was alarming in itself. The other issue i have is the bar area service was a little pricey and the bartenders were not able to speak English very well and some of them were not friendly. I believe that they should be held to the same communications standards as the people in the front desk and they were not. Also we ate at the Beach bar on the first day and the food was disappointing in quality and quantity not to mention all the flies on the bar and in my food because the bartenders did not bother to ever wipe down the bar! The beach area was nice and there was room to get a few chairs and a spot under a shady tree, it was relaxing. But the resort was not very thorough in there cleaning the sea weed growing along the beach in front of the resort area. The main swimming section by the chairs was relatively cleared but the water there was very hazy compared to the other resort beached because there jetties that were to close together which restrict the ocean current from cleaning water in the swimming area. My wife refused to swim in this section because from our hotel room balcony you can clearly see the difference in water from that section to other beaches. And as i said earlier the other section that was not restricted by the jetties was not cleared of sea weed so we decided to not swim in the ocean in front of the resort. We went swimming down by the Weston which was clean and without Jetties... We did enjoy Aruba because we had a car rental for about 200$ for the week which allowed us to travel to each area without taxi. We went out for dinner and shopping every night so i recommend renting a vehicle if you plan to venture out at all. the island is small and easy to navigate evan without a map. The 5 star restaurants are worth the money. Overall good experience despite resort short comings.

Room Tip: The highest tower view is very nice. All rooms are ocean view above the 5th floor.Lookout for the mo...

Phoenix is a short car ride from "restaurant row" which is alittle further up the strip.Any type of food and budget; it's there. Food prices are a little high but hey you're on an island. We stayed in the new tower; no complaints, modern and comfortable. The $50 internet charge is a complete turnoff.I also made a 15 minute local call for $6.65. Be aware of the extras. We ate at Saturday BBQ buffet; OK...but nothing real special. The pools and beach situation are gorgeous! Snorkeling on the island is below average; some colorful fish and no colorful reefs (at least from beach entry. We're retired from Florida so Aruba as a beach vacation is nothing really special; except for the fact that the beaches are nicer. I'll say this though...you will not find more friendly people anywhere in the world. No pretense, they're just nice.If you work and need a one week reprieve Aruba is THE place to go!!!

We have been to Divi Aruba Phoenix 8 times, as we own a timeshare there. In recent years, they have updated the property impeccably. The rooms are stylish, clean and spacious and the property is very upbeat and chic. The brand new lobby features a concierge, gift shops, and a very friendly staff. The pool is awesome; it has a swim up bar with drinks and snacks and beautiful lights at night. There are other food options on the property and nearby as well.

This place has always made us feel welcome and at home, whether traveling with family or friends. We love it here!!

Room Tip: specify newer rooms in the beach tower

Went to Aruba in August with 15 family members and stayed at the Divi Phoenix for a week. It took 45 minutes at least, to check in. they seem to have mounds of paperwork that they fill out and you have to sign. Maybe this is because most rooms are timeshares. The beach is fantastic and roomy with lots of shade. The rooms were clean and bright. We stayed in the new tower on the 5th floor overlooking a beautiful pool and had an amazing ocean view. The one bedroom unit had a king sized bed in a nice big room with large bathroom. The living room was large and had a pull out couch and another large bathroom with jacuzzi. The staff were very nice and courteous except for the people that did the towels at the beach. They seemed lazy and wouldn't take the wet towels from you. You had to pitch your own heavy load into a bin while the staff member lazily hung over a counter chatting to other staff members. The restaurants were good especially Blossoms in The Westin. It is way better than Benihana's. Getting around the Island could not be easier. The mini-buses are frequent and you just hail them on the street for $2 or find a bus stop and get on the big blue one for $2.30. The taxis aren't that expensive either. We rented a jeep for $100 and spent the day exploring the entire island. I would go back in a heart beat. We met great people from Venezuela and Ireland at the Bugaloe Beach Bar and had a fantastic time. This bar is opened late. The night we were there, a Venezuelan wedding was taking place with lots of dancing. We were all invited to join them and it was so much fun. I am not a swimmer so for me the ocean was so calm and I got to float on a raft. I am usually sitting on the sand afraid to go near the waves when I am at a beach. The other hotel beaches were very crowded which is one huge reason to consider staying at Divi Phoenix. it may be a little bit more expensive but so worth it.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good as far I saw. My brother in law booked a studio and was upgraded to a one bed...
