We visited the Holiday Inn from March 6-13. I was a bit worried after reading some of the previous postings, but we found the hotel to be very nice. It's not the best hotel in the world but we weren't expecting it to be! It was far nicer than I had anticipated.
We were assigned to the Curacao Tower and were fortunate to have a great ocean view. Check in was fairly easy, and the room was decent. We were pleasantly surprised to find an empty mini fridge in the room that we used to store bottled water. There was no charge to use the mini fridge. The room was clean, and there was no unpleasant odor. One has to keep in mind that it is not a 5 star hotel! If you have realistic expectations then you will not be disappointed!
We went all inclusive, and we found the food to be just ok--nothing special. We found breakfast to be the best meal of the day. They had a chef preparing fresh omelets daily and they had an array of bagels and others breads to choose from. For lunch we went to the restaurant by the beach and pool a couple times. We didn't think it was that great. We had cheeseburgers one day that were pretty gross, and we had chicken fingers and onion rings another day that were also pretty bad. I think your best bet is to have a big breakfast and skip lunch, although the pizzas from the beach bar looked decent. We had heard the food was pretty bad at this hotel before we left so we brought plenty of snacks with us to keep in the room! We only ate at the hotel once for dinner(Miramar) and again, it was nothing special. We would recommend the all-inclusive package because we did enjoy having free drinks and breakfast daily, and the occasional free lunch or dinner. Judging from experience, I think we saved a ton this time around by doing the A.I. package! We did visit last year and there were several restaurants we did want to go back to for dinner (El Gaucho, Blossoms, Sunset Grille). We loved and would definately recommend those restaurants! Also, Pizza Del Mar, next door to the hotel, has very good pizza, and you can order from your hotel room and go pick it up. Moomba Beach, on the other side of the hotel, was just ok for dinner. It's a fun bar though!
The new pool is very nice, and the beach was very nice, as well. I don't see, however, how people can say it's the nicest beach on the strip. It didn't seem any different from the other beaches on the Palm Beach strip, and there was a bit more seaweed than we remember from last year. Also, we found it impossible to get a little straw hut!! I went down one morning at 7am, and every hut was taken and most of the pool chairs!! People must be waking up at the crack of dawn to secure their spots at the beach/pool.
As for activities, we would HIGHLY recommend the Pelican snorkeling trip that stops at the Antilla shipwreck. This is a must see--it was unbelievable! It was, by far, the best snorkeling we have ever done! It was like being dropped into the middle of an aquarium--millions of fish! It was also a very nice boat ride(fun crew!), and they did provide an open bar(for the entire time), and very good snacks! Also, I would recommend renting a jeep and heading to Baby Beach. It's a beautiful beach, and the whole area is fabulous for pictures!
Having stayed at the Wyndham Hotel last year, we think the Holiday Inn is a much better deal all around. We paid hundreds of dollars less this year, and this time all our food and drinks were included! The Holiday Inn is in a better location, and there is more atmosphere at night! We found that there wasn't much to do at the Wyndham after 7pm, but that's not that case at the H.I. The beach bar is quite large and is open til 10:30 p.m. They also have nightly activities in that area that are quite entertaining. After that, Moomba Beach Bar is a short walk next door, and is quite lively. It's also fun walking up and down the boardwalk. All in all, for what we paid, we think the Holiday Inn was great, and wouldn't hesitate to return!
