Two years ago we stayed at the Wyndham Hotel and had such a fantastic time that we could not wait to return. We knew that the Wyndham changed names to the Westin Aruba, but were not aware that it also changed owners.
Let me tell you how dissatisfied we were. We booked our reservations in September for an April trip for a one week stay. We booked through Expedia with an all inclusive food and beverage plan. When we arrived at the Westin, they had no notice that we were all inclusive. We did have our paperwork, so at check in they gave it to us. What they did not tell us was that three months ago, you added another all inclusive plan (Platinum Plan). We found this out through a waiter in one of the restaurants. At that time, we realized that most of the dinners has ***'s besides the orders, which meant that there was a surcharge.
After dinner we went to the desk to inquire about this second plan. The night manager did not come out to greet us or speak to us. She chose instead to send a front desk person back and forth as a middle person to explain to us. We wanted to know why we weren't told about the second package at check in, what the upgrade charge was if we wanted to get the Platinum package and what the Platinum package included. The desk person came back and said we needed to go back to Expedia. We left and gave her our room number.
I was upset at the poor customer service we received by this night manager. We did get a call the next day and were told that the cost was $35.00/per person, $70.00/couple, which totals approximately $500.00 more for the week. This is outrageous. When we booked in September, Expedia got paid, and your hotel was paid by Expedia. I believe if you want to change your all inclusive package, the people who booked before your change, should have been grandfathered back, and the new package offered to people who are booking when the package started.
I have been away before, and "All Inclusive" means you can eat three meals a day and drink all day, with NO surchanges.
You even did away with the dine around. The Wyndham offered a list of restaurants which we were allowed to eat. They allotted $28.00/per person and we picked up the rest. At the Westin, you only have Blossoms as a dine around with the $28.00/per person and you pay the rest. The Westin has two restaurants to eat and most items have surchages on them. There is also the dinner on the beach which has a set up charge of $41.20. The only place we got to eat with no surcharge was breakfast and lunch.
We realized that there were businesses that were staying at the Westin and I believe that the hotel now is catering to these large corporations. They made the people move from the pool and beach area to set up dinners for these groups. I did not mind moving the first night, but got upset when this happened again to us.
We love Aruba and plan to come back, but we will not stay at this hotel again. I will be posting this email on the website so others will be aware. It was my mistake at the time I booked, to read what others may have written about the hotel. I assumed it was as good as the Wyndham, and it absolutely "is not".
