“great vacation-attention to detail is lacking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

I want to start off by saying I had a great time in Aruba and at the Westin. We arrived two hours before check in but because the people staying in our suite had paid for late check out and because our son was asleep- they checked us into another room and sent us a room service lunch. I thought it was an excellent way to handle a tired family (we flew from California). Once we were in our real room we were super happy. Had a great suite with two balconies- fantastic view, the pool and beaches are pristine. Westin was at best excellent and at worse polite- so no worries there.
The criticisms I have are about details- the lamp shades had stains, the door had chipped paint (beige over orange so quite noticeable), the huge bathtub needed to be refinished (lots of chips), one of the elevators was out the entire week- nothing that got in the way of my enjoyment, but def something that a hotel as well known as the Westin should take care of.
The casino was fun- mostly played craps- the dealers didn't call out the numbers, so sometimes it was annoying not to know what was rolled and were somewhat surly- one of them called my husband a bad word in Spanish (we speak the language so we called her on it). Didn't stop us from playing though- that's one of the reasons why we wanted Aruba- beaches and gambling.
After the fourth day we finally left the Westin- we went to the Hyatt and to the Marriott Stellaris- talk about big difference! They looked top notch, poshy, busy, lively, WAY different- did appreciate the smaller feel at the Westin after the mall feel of the Stellaris (no craps at Stellaris, but yes at the Hyatt) so the comparison was both positive and negative. Loved the Hyatt casino.
would I stay there again? yes.

“Our Fabulous Vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

We recently spent six nights at The Westin Resort & Casino in Aruba, and I have to say it was one of the BEST vacations my husband and I have ever had!! The staff at The Westin was very accommodating, and went out of their way to make us feel "special" and were so attentive to our every need!!
We can't thank Jennifer Carr (of The Tropical Travelers) enough for arranging and handling all out travel needs! She did an excellent job of taking care of everything for us, where all we had to do was "show-up" !! She definitely made all the right choices, and perfect accommodations!!
The only thing I can say about the Westin that needs improvement, is the "speed" of their elevators!! They definitely need improvement!! But other than that.........it was all "PERFECT" !

Room Tip: facing the pool is the best room to have!

“Anniversary Vacation to Aruba”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

Last year we decided to go back to Aruba for the first time in 35 years. Our stay at the Westin was so memorable that we decided to go back again this year for our anniversary.
Our stay this November was as good as it gets for us. Once again in the planning stages Sonia Bryson went out of her way via e-mail communication to help me surprise my wife on this anniversary trip.
From the day we arrived until the day we left we were treated as special guests from all of the Westin imployees. Our check in on November 13 was very smooth and we were greeted with warm friendly smiles and respect from the check in staff. I can't remember the name but the translation of the young lady who checked us in was something like " A thousand angels " according to what she told us. We had an issue with an outside vendor where we purchased some gift certificates that were supposed to be at the check in desk. They could not find them initially and then the front desk staff got together with the ladies at the Depalm concierge desk and they tracked them down for us. There was a genuine concern to help us out and it was very much appreciated.
As for our room we stayed in room # 1100 and the room and the view of palm beach were wonderful. We enjoy staying at places with character that are not too big or too small and the Westin was perfect for us. The pool area and the stretch of beach were meticulously maintained and the location was perfect in palm beach. Not to close, yet only a short walk away from all of the sights. The pier for out sunset crusie was only a five minute walk on the boardwalk by the beach.
The choice of restaurants and the breakfast buffet at the Bon Bini were excellent and it was amazing how thoughtful and caring all of the staff was in each of them. The ladies who were cooking the omelets worked nonstop and put together whatever we wanted each morning. They did this with a smile despite the crowds, which is not easy with some of those in line. Despite being at full capacity we had no problems getting our chairs set up by the pool or by the beach.
There was always a nice crowd and we enjoy sitting under the Divi Tree instead of getting out early for the palapa huts. We also set up the same spot under a tree by the pool each afternoon and enjoyed happy hour from the Tamby Bar. The outside Cafe as well as Blossoms provided some great beverages, food and snacks, during our stay. Though we were only there for five days each of them were special to us. We were treated by Westin Management to a bottle of Champayne for our anniversary and we toasted on the balcony while relaxing as the sun went down.
Sonia also provided us with a nice surprise and posted " A happy anniversary message to John and Mary " on the digital screen in the lower lobby. Personal touches like this are what separates one resort from another. We were just two people traveling for five nights and yet we were given the attention that any large group would get. We made some friends thousands of miles from home who we will always remember.
Even with the resort at full capacity our longest wait for the elevator was about ten minutes. It was also at 10 AM when the breakfast buffet was full and many people were going to the beach.
The service and the friendliness of everyone we were in contact with at the Westin more than made up for any small delay.
We have been married for a long time and have had the opportunity to stay at any number of resorts over the years. The Aruba Westin does it right and you can always tell when the positive attitude from management is passed onto the entire team.
Each evening when we came back to the resort we spent some time in the Palm Beach Casino. Again it was the same laid back atmoshere with good service that we enjoyed.
With any luck we will be able to go back to Aruba with some family members one day. We will definately be staying at the Westin if and when we do.
Once again to the General Manager, to Sonia Bryson, to the front desk, the cleaning staff, the concierge desk, all the Chef's, cooks and servors, the Spa staff, and everyone else on the Aruba Westin team we thank you !

Room Tip: Try to get a higher floor because the views are incredible. The location of the Westin makes for so...

“Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

I really enjoyed my stay at the Westin, first let me 'fess up, i don't like a lot of attention and prefer to come and go with the minimum of fuss, this hotel was perfect, you can be anonymous if you want, not to say the staff are nothing but attentive and very well mannered.
Breakfast buffet was good and well replenished, Aircon was good A MUST is to leave it on all the time as the humidity is high if you don't.
To get a beach side sunbed you need to payup $$$ or queue from about 7:15, no big deal really and seems a fair enough system, i had many a good talk with my fellow queuers, you can even grab a free walk-and-go coffee from the lobby on your way to the poolside office, where they take the bookings.
Hotel is a short walk away from the main strip all the restaurants and shops if that's your bag, felt extremely safe so no problems in taking a night stroll.

Room Tip: Book on a B&B deal, breakfast is expensive if not, no need to go full board as there are many go...

“Better than expected.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012 via mobile

I was very concerned about staying here after reading some of the reviews on this property. We found that everything was actually very nice. The property is a bit older but the room had nice new furnishings. The bathroom was updated but did have a touch of being dated due to the walls and flooring. The bedding, TV, workstation, and table were excellent.
We had a package that included the daily buffet breakfast which was very nice. It was listed at about $25 per person per day and that price is a little bit steep. All food prices in Aruba are fairly high however.
The elevators were slow and often a few of them were not in service. If I were to change one thing about this hotel it would be elevator service.
We were on the 17th floor with an even number room. (1720) which was mid hotel.
The view is beautiful and we enjoyed looking over the pool. If we were to return, I would request a room between the 5th and 10th floors. With a low even number. Low number puts you near the water. Even is the South side with a view of the pool, beach, and sunset. Something like 706 would be awesome.
We very much enjoyed our stay in Aruba and the Westin ended up being much better than I had anticipated.
