“the workers are so friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

I really had to say how much we enjoy our trip at Occidental in Aruba. The people are so warm and friendly. We love Marolyn Heyliger in the first club. She is always there to help with any reservation we may need. It is always pleasure to work with her.
Also the Bellman, Orsini. He is the best. Calls for our taxis ,,gives directions and always remembers our names.
The only thing that could be better would be to change the menu of the food each year. We ate at the Royal club one night and the food was far superior than the other restaurants for the all inclusive. It doesn't make sense when it's all in the same hotel. That is one improvement that could be made. The hotel and grounds are immaculate.

Room Tip: most hotel rooms were renovated. They really should have wifi. Their charge is way too much. Some...

We love this place! The staff is A-MAZING! Always greeted with a smile and a warm hello. My favorite was Hazel on the 9th floor. Our rooms were clean, extra requested blankets and towels arrived quickly, room service was generally quick (but sometimes omitted items or brought the wrong thing). The entertainment group is so upbeat, although they put on "Grease" when we were here in 2011. Didn't want to see it again. Food is best in the specialty restaurants, especially Mexican and Zen. Portions in the Italian restaurant were a bit small. We all enjoyed the pasta station in the Palm at lunchtime. Drinks everywhere were great, especially enjoyed the tropical drinks! Waiting for the elevators makes you think you are going to pass out: it is so HOT on the upper floors! Royal Club beach bar was closed on 3 of the days we were here...quite disappointing. Don't know if they ever opened on those days, but should indicate if they are out to lunch and returning, or just plain closed for some reason. Get a massage on the beach! It was wonderful!

Room Tip: Higher floors have terrific view of the ocean/pool.

My husband and I recently spent a week there. In general, hotel is good, clean, well taken care of, but needs urgent renovating. Like in all all-inclusive hotels the food was ok. Staff at the restaurants was fantastic, always in a good mood and accomodating. Entertainment at the hotel was also very good. The only big disappointment was guest services. We had a mytime type reservation. Upon arrival, we were given a list of reservations previously made for the specialty restaurants...Pretty impressive, right? Well, none was made! First night we get to the restaurant and there was no reservation. The following morning we tried to confirm the other reservations and to our surprise they simply did not exist. So I ask: why give us the nicely written piece of paper with reservations that in fact did not exist? Our package included one breakfast in bed. We booked it with guest services, and guess what: it never happened. We called the kitchen and they said guest services had not sent them any requests for breakfast in bed....Also we were supposed to have the minibar recharged everyday because of the MyTime type of reservation, but it never happened. All in all we had a good time, but the hotel does need some improvement as far as guest services is concerned. Unless of course you accept their invitation for a sales pitch for some sort of time share, or club, which we were not interested in. Had we attended the meeting, would they have treated us differently?

My new wife and I arrived on a very busy day right after Holland had won a world cup game so things on the island were buzzing but the staff at the resort welcomed us quickly and made sure we were taken care of so we could relax after a long day of travelling.

We stayed in the Royal Club rooms in tower 1 and couldn't have been happier with the Junior Suite we had. With a pool/ocean view it made the stay very enjoyable. The room was tidy and clean and the bathroom was a very good size. I was a little upset to learn that the resort recently changed from offering the beer brewed on the island (Balashi) for a much lower quality Presidente from the Dominican Republic.

The staff was always welcoming and made sure our needs were met everywhere from the casino to the pool bar. Couldn't have asked for better when it came to this.

Food was decent, and my only complaint about this entire trip is that there are not many options for food around lunch time. If you are not staying in the Royal club you are limited to the buffet and the Beach Club, both of which do not serve very many options. I would suggest maybe a lighter grab and go type options of maybe a small sandwich and chips or something.

Overall I couldn't have been happier. Great place, great people, great atmosphere, and everyone else seemed to be enjoying their stay as well. We will definitely have The Occidental Grand Aruba on our list of places to visit again!

Room Tip: Royal Club definitely has it's benefits for those who do not mind spending a few extra bucks.

Great vacation. We stayed in the Royal Club. Sandra was amazing. Hazel, Veronica and the rest of the staff there made sure everything was perfect. We had a little mix-up with a dinner reservation but Sandra worked it out. On the beach, Giovanni made sure we had everything we needed.
My only complaint is after paying so much for the all-inclusive fee, there were some additional charges for some wines, (Pinot Grigio), the sake` in the Hibachi restaurant and the lobster dinner in the Caribbean restaurant. Other than that, we were very happy and I would recommend it for a great vacation.

This was a much awaited for 2 weeks vacation in our beloved Aruba.
We usually stay at the occidental Grand in Aruba since we fell in love in the resort and its people since our first trip there in 2006.

We can not say enough of the service and the people who work there. Always smiling and happy to help. I would like to start with Renato who every morning made our morning breakfast special with his cheerful personality and prompt service. He always managed to bring a smile to our faces and a warm cup of coffee to start our day on the right foot. The kids loved him and we enjoyed his help and easy conversation.

We would also like to commend Dale the "breakfast" queen/concierge for her efficient and warm personality. Always made you feel welcome. Our daughter loved her.

Lastly we would like to show our appreciation to Yvette from the first club office for going out of her "call of duty" to help with minor and big issues.

Thanks to all of you at the occidental Grand Aruba for an amazing vacation.
We can not wait to next year.

Spent our week-long honeymoon here in 2010. The stay was great - booked through Costco. The swim up bar was our favorite - big rocks we could share and a nice overhang for when we experienced a quick rain shower. The bartenders were great. We stopped by the lobby bar quite frequently as well. The mixed drinks were always made with a heavy hand on the liquor - probably because it was all inclusive they didn't really care how much they were using. The food was okay, not great, and the reason I couldn't really give it a 5 star review. There was great beach access with beach chairs, umbrellas, and a beach bar. We went for a quick walk down the beach and were able to go parasailing, which i would really recommend because the views are gorgeous. Great experience but I would definitely recommend that they up the food quality.
