“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

We recently had our honeymoon here, in August 2013. Where do I start, from check in the service was impeccable , we were met with Mojitos on arrival. The check in process was seamless. We arrived after a long flight from Glasgow and it was exactly what we needed stress free. We had the pleasure of been located in room 61 , what a view we had an uninterrupted view of the beach right on our door step and the room was clean and well presented. The beds in Manchebo are absolutely amazing the best we have ever slept in. What I did find a bit strange as there was no slippers provided which if they had of been would of just matched the dressing gowns perfect. As we were on honeymoon a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne in a bucket of Ice and chocolate dipped strawberries which I thought was a really nice touch from Manchebo it was a personal touch that did not go without notice. We had the pleasure of the all inclusive honeymoon package which we thought was fantastic. We had the pleasure of a couple massage in the fabulous SPA located in the hotel we extended our massage to 180 minutes which was perfect we could of lasted another 180 minutes. We also had a private dinner for two under the stars which was mouth watering and indeed was washed down with champagne what a fantastic experience as we had just got married, we also had a fabulous sunset cruise around the island which again was one not to be missed. Although what Manchebo has is Eagle beach which is located directly in front of the hotel you can see the sunset every night which is breath-taking. What makes Manchebo stand out from the rest for us is that it is a boutique hotel with service that is second to none. The staff in Manchebo is certainly what makes it stand out for the rest and all the staff should be applauded for a fantastic job. In particular Jason from Ikes restaurant stood out for us he attention to detail is second to none and his service is outstanding and he should most definitely be rewarded with Employee of the Month and of course we could not forget Lorenzo in the bar he is what makes the bar a friendly and welcoming bar and his length of service credits the Manchebo. By far there is to many to mention but all the staff are incredible.

The hotel is well located , it is located in the low rise hotel areas which is better if you are looking for a quiet , relaxing holiday yet near to the high rise hotels like Riu Palace, Marriott etc.

Aruba is a breathtaking island if you are looking for a relaxing , luxurious holiday/honeymoon. For us it made our Honeymoon very special and memories that we will cherish until we return.

I would most definitely recommend Manchebo Beach Resort for anybody it is a remarkable place with remarkable staff that indeed make your holiday memorable.

We most definitely will be returning to visit the Manchebo Beach Resort and all its wonderful staff. Thank you to all who made our honeymoon memorable and indeed memories that we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

Glad to read you enjoyed paradise. Just returned myself from a walk to the beach which I have the pleasure of doing every day a couple of time and although we take it for granted at times the resort indeed looks and feels like a piece of paradise. Thank you for taking the time to point out all of the wonderful employees that make Manchebo such a special place. And as for Jason at Ike's Bistro I will personally nominate him for the upcoming Employee of the 3rd Quarter for his outstanding service and attention to detail.

We had our honeymoon here and everything was excellent! Good food on the hotel grounds and very convenient to downtown and the high-rise district if you want to get out and explore! Rooms are clean and spacious and the beach is literally right out the door. There are also many restaurants within walking distance if you don't want to mess with a taxi, bus or car

The beach was also never crowded and we always found an umbrella, although it was the low season during our stay. Very friendly and courteous staff that always greeted you and helped you in any way possible. We loved the hotel and the island - we will be going back and will definitely stay at Manchebo.

40 years ago we honeymooned at Manchebo Beach Resort and we thought then it was the best of all 5 hotels on the beach. Fast forward 40 years to 2013 and we returned. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. The rooms were recently renovated and up to same standard as any better Marriott or Sheraton. The grounds were absolutely gorgeous and well maintained. The beach is still the best since the sand is snow white, the water is gin-clear and the beach chairs are well spread out.
There is a distinct European vibe to Manchebo...lots of different languages abound.
This is not a cruise ship -- there's not a lot to do here other than relax, make new friends, take the yoga class in the morning, or relax to the steel drum music during happy hour. Planning where to eat dinner was the most strenuous activity of the day. The French Steak House is still great after 40 years - the food is beautifully prepared and reasonably priced. Ike's is a newer eatery there...more Mediterranean but we did not try it. We would go back again and again and again Unless you crave the Miami Beach glitz found at the hi-rise hotel part of the island, this is the place to stay!

BTW, this is a two-story low-rise hotel. The best rooms are ocean-view on the ground floor, with a great patio on which to relax.

Also, if you want a car, call Hans at Tropic Car Rental - most helpful and best price we found. .

How wonderful that you got to return to our resort after spending your honeymoon with us 40 years ago. At that time Manchebo was sitting all by itself on the Manchebo/Eagle Beach with just 72 rooms as we are today still the same size at 72 rooms. Glad you got to enjoy your anniversary and we look forward to host you for many more to come.

I have never experienced such wonderful people as I did here. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our time there was fantastic. It is such a beautiful place. Like heaven on earth. The staff at the French Steakhouse was great too. Harold, Adrian, Phyllis, and Jeandry, made sure that we enjoyed our dinner. They were extremely friendly and did what they could to help us enjoy our meals. The front desk staff was wonderful as well. Particularly, Majida and Sonny. They went above and beyond to ensure I was able to see the beautiful Aruba sights. We had an ocean view room and the view was worth the additional money. The rooms were clean. Our stay was very peaceful. We wanted to avoid the crowds. We made many new wonderful friends and can't wait to go back!!!!

Our experience of the Manchebo was like a dream that you don’t want to wake up from!

From the start to the end of our time at Manchebo we were treated like valued guests in a friend’s home. Our expectations were met and exceeded.

We stayed for two weeks and had a wonderful time.

There is currently only one flight per week to Aruba from England via Thomson. These flights are only during the low season and it is not possible to fly direct from England during our winter months (which is a shame). So, there are not many British on the island.

The arrangements by Thomson overall were OK. Thomson class the Manchebo as a ‘boutique hotel’ so private taxi transfers are included. Local rep was helpful and we arranged a couple of trips with her. Try to upgrade to Premium seats if you can to get the extra space and service; the flight is about 9.5 hours. However, Thomson are using an old Boeing 767 from the “First Choice” fleet which really needs replacing, even the premium seats are uncomfortable. The food on our return flight was below par as some idiot left the prepared supplies back at Gatwick!

Now for the Manchebo…

All the staff we met were efficient, friendly, helpful and hospitable. We loved them all.

Reception – Check-in smooth and within minutes we were in our room with our luggage. Made our restaurant reservations and taxi booking via the desk – no problems. There are low key security staff around so we felt safe throughout our time there. Got to mention Dilia and Sandra.

Room – Clean, comfortable beds, adequate size room, plenty of storage. Our ground floor (first floor to Americans) garden room was fine as we spent little time in the room, not all Ocean Front rooms have an unobstructed view. Bathroom (should really say shower room) had plenty of shelf space. Rain shower is OK (but it isn’t a power shower), I did have to clean the head to stop the water spraying all around the bathroom! I got loads of muck out, which fell on me! Note to housekeeping – just brush hand over the rubber nipples on the shower head with the water on to clean then occasionally. A turndown service (with a towel refresh) is available but has to be pre-booked, could never use this as we could not pre-plan when we would be out of the room. Note to housekeeping – why not operate the turndown service by the “please service room” cards? Oh and English breakfast tea (asked but never got this) in the room please (not just coffee and green tea). Why not put small long-life milks in the fridge instead of the awful powdered creamer (yuk!).

Beach – One of the best we have had the privilege to be on. Plenty of space, sunshades and for the most part peaceful (why do some people need to use mobile phones on the beach? And hold loud conversations that everyone can hear?). As soon as you head for the beach you are greeted by the beach attendant (got to mention Juan), who will find you shade, provide loungers and more towels if needed. The loungers (which we knew had been recently replaced) were surprisingly comfortable; an extra luxury would be some mattresses. Unfortunate that some inconsiderate guests have to get up early every day and reserve loungers right at the front – get a life!

All inclusive program – worked for us. We paid for this upgrade in England and saved a lot against the price of upgrading on arrival. Everything was included and we checked out with a zero bill. We didn’t want to eat off property. We did our research before going and knew that the menus at the French Steakhouse, Ikes Bistro and Pega Pega were extensive and offered us plenty of choice for our two weeks – and they did in spades! The food and service in all three restaurants were excellent (I will write separate reviews for each). International spirits are included (you may have to ask for a brand as they do tend to use well drinks for mixers). The wines were good quality; even the Pinot Grigio was Italian. Full marks to Mr Blanco the Beverage Manager!

Gratuities – we liked the fact that a 15% service charge was included on all bills (in England we never tip in bars). It does seem that all the staff benefit from this arrangement. Of course, with the all inclusive program the service charges had been included – bonus!

Cleaning – first class every where on site. We saw the pool being cleaned and water tested. We saw the cooking area of the Pega Pega bar get a “deep clean” every evening. A small amount of seaweed was even cleared from the beach.

Criticism – only really two points of criticism we could make.
1. Smoking policy – not allowed in the rooms or in the indoor restaurant. But was allowed in Ikes Bistro and the Pega Pega Bar as these are open - didn’t like this at all. Smoking should be banned at the bar (especially cigars) and there should be designated smoking tables in Ikes out of the way of those who do not want to suffer “passive smoking”. Some people are just selfish and inconsiderate.
2. Birds – scavenging birds are a problem around the tables in the open areas. We thought this a health hazard and that the hotel could do more to try to prevent a health problem occurring. Perhaps beaded curtains around the food areas and bird feeding areas in the gardens to try to attract them away. Not easy I know!

Conclusion – we had a great holiday, we met some lovely people, have returned home refreshed and over-fed. We will not return as we make it a point to see different places and have different experiences. But, highly recommend the Manchebo.

What we do know is that it will be hard to beat the Manchebo experience.

Room Tip: Ground floor garden rooms are fine.
