“Aruba family vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012 via mobile

We stayed at the Amsterdam Manor from June 23 to June 30, 2012. Me, my husband, adult son in one 2 bedroom unit and my daughter and son in law and their 3 small kids in another 2 bedroom unit. We faced the pool area and the beach was very visible from our balcony. We went to the grocery store and bought some adult beverages and snacks for Happy Hour on our balcony in the evenings. A lovely view. It was terrific for us, a decent kitchen for breakfasts, and some lunches. A good restaurant for the meals one didn't want to cook. They also have a nice room service that my son used a few times. Housekeeping is amazing. We weren't very fastidious but each day they made the place very clean and tidy. We ate at Passions on the beach and that was lovely. There are jet skis and para sailing right there on the beach. No venders that we saw, so that was a pleasant suprise. Definitely get a rental car and use a local agency. You can take a cab to your hotel and arrange a rental car there. We were almost 10 hours late arriving, supposed to arrive at 3:30 pm but United had other plans and got there somewhere after 1 am. The hotel was very accommodating to us despite the hour of our arrival, after 2 am. I think they are used to the poor flight record. Anyway we had a great time, went snorkeling and scuba diving. Happy Divers was the one we used for scuba and they were excellent. Jeffery took just me and my husband for a dive. It was so pretty on the reef! Baby Beach was also fun, a great place to snorkel with kids. Everyone we encountered was very friendly to tourists and helpful. Amsterdam Manor exceeded my expectations,it was a very pleasant place for a family vacation!

We recently stayed at this resort for 4 nights in the middle of June and had a very good time.We are owners at the Marriot surf club but wanted to spend a few extra days and decided on the Amsterdam to spend the extra days because of its location near Eagle beach. We were pleasantly surprised at this resort.we had a superior suite right in front of the pool and it was fine for what we needed. The only problem we had was we really had no hot water for showers.Other than that it was very comfortable. The pool bar staff were very friendly and all the staff really seem to enjoy working there. The resort is just a short walk to the best beach on the island and Passions on the beach restaurant was one of our best meals we have had on the island and we have been to Aruba 4 times now. From the front desk to the housekeeping to the servers,Amsterdam management should be proud of the fact that their workers all seem to be so friendly and helpful to the guests. We will definitely come back to the Amsterdam for another short stay in route to the surf club.It gives us a chance to relax and enjoy in a smaller resort and do not have to fight for chair space or palapa space.Great stay!!!!

My husband and I spent a week at AMBR in early June which was our 2nd return visit to this resort. Our expectations were in line as we have stayed there previously, but we did have some new experiences to add.

Honestly, with that gorgeous beach across a narrow street, it's hard to say any place on Eagle beach is bad, but fortunately AMBR is a great resort in of itself. We arrived early, just after noon and we expected to not have our room ready at check-in, but we were pleasantly surprised to be able to go right to our room. We reserved a one-bedroom suite during this stay, our previous stay was in a superior suite. While the rooms are going through staged renovations, we did not get a renovated room, so we were met with the familiar decor as the superior suite. The one-bedroom is plenty of room. There is a decently-sized kitchen with a full size refrigerator, dining room and living space. There is also a separate bedroom and bathroom. We actually would have been pleased with out the living space as we rarely used it. We sat at the dining room table most times to eat, check email, etc. The only TV we used was the one in the bedroom. Still nice to have all of that space. We were on the main floor which was about 20 steps to the pool, great location!

We ate at Passions on our first night intentionally as it's right across the street and low maintenance in terms of getting there. While the location and scenery is fantastic, the food doesn't live up to it. Food was good indeed, just not up to the caliber of the surroundings. I will say the watermelon and feta salad was the best thing going, so delicious!

In the time between our stays (3 years), Mango's Restaurant updated their menu. We ate breakfast there on our first morning as we didn't have a chance to buy groceries yet. They improved their breakfast fare with a buffet, catering to more American breakfast tastes. It was a nice mix of American & European offerings. Delicious french toast!!

Housekeeping was great each day, always coming in while we were at the beach. Concierge and front desk personnel were fabulous, very friendly and helpful. Beach bar is great of course, awesome mojitos! My only suggestion would be that the hotel purchase some additional water rafts. By the time we'd get to the beach in the morning, which ranged from 9-10, all rafts would be gone. It appeared to be a trend of some travelers to get to the beach extremely early, get towels and rafts, stick them on some beach chairs and head back to sleep. Anyway, that's just one suggestion. Also, the Arubus stop is right in front of the resort which is super convenient and we used it quite regularly.

We enjoy AMBR because of it's proximity to Eagle Beach, small size and general demographic of customers. Not a lot of American tourists tend to stay there and we appreciate the less busy atmosphere that you can find on Palm beach in the high-rise area. All in all, another great stay!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

Me and my husband  decided go to Aruba, because we found good non-stop flights with good times from Chicago.     Thanks to United airlines, we go to hotel 22 hours later.  ( got on plane , because of technical issues left airport few hours late, after about 2 hours flying  got bad news, we coming back to Chicago, because of technical issues, got on new plane, few hours later, the plain again had technical problems, landed in Orlando , stayed there overnight , next morning at 8 finally left, so at 11 am finally ended up at Aruba).
Main reason  we booked Amsterdam manor  beach resort was the kitchenettes. We always trying to cook most our meals on a trips, unless its all inclusive or cruise.
The hotel did not disappointed, it's so charming, cute, boutique stile, with beautiful landscape. Very clean. We booked cheapest room, they upgraded us to superior studio with ocean view  ( thank you so much for that, and for the  vine bottle , you made our anniversary very memorable and special).
Our room was on first floor with little patio . We had table and two chairs there, plus two lounge chairs .  Had king bed, jacuzzi in a bath room , toilet was in a separate room. Kitchenette had everything you might need, even plastic containers with lids to store your food or bring to the beach . Blender, toaster, microwave , coffee maker, bucket for ice (had ice machine by the pool),Citronella candle (saw few Mosquitos, but nothing major, my husband got few bits, I didn't),  vine, can opener, scissors , provided paper towel, sponge, dishwashing soap , plates, utensils, glasses and et.
In a bathroom provided dispensers one with conditioning shampoo, other with lotion, soap bar, hair dryer, magnifying mirror with the light ,two robes for using, had safe, iron.  Water in shower was a little too cold for my liking few times. Our refrigerator wasn't too cold, so we had that resolved very quick by getting new one.
Didn't have any problems with condensation in a room.  Electricity outlets like in US.
Resort   have mini mart on  property, which of course more expensive . They have self laundry room, 1$ washing ,1$ drying.
You can get free newspapers in English by computers or by mango restaurant ( Aruba today and the morning news). Had book shelf in reception area, we always glad to leave our books for other visitors, my husband finished 3 this time.
Had wireless Internet, but very slow, sometimes wouldn't work for a while.  but didn't bother me, would be a problem if somebody would need to work while there.
Have not very big, 4 feet deep pool, plus hot tub size, knee high pool for kids. Shower. It's light up at night, like the rest or resort, have security person on site.
The beach is so beautiful, white, soft sand, had enough chairs with big umbrellas, they covered sun really good, we were lucky enough not to have cruisers ( taxi driver told us later, that cruise season from October to may mostly). Water warm enough, basically no waves, so was fun just to float with their floats, which if you want to get, you need to come early, before 8, they have maybe 15 of them, all yellow, mostly people used them on lounge chairs, but I borrowed them from people when they didn't use them or they weren't by their spots for long time. They provide one towel per person, you can get them by using  towel card, they white with yellow stripes. Resort don't give wrist bands, so the towel  let them know that you staying there, other wise they would ask you to proof that by showing  room key. Bottom of the water soft, didn't need water shoes, unless you afraid to step on starfish , saw  quite big one. It's  windy in aruba all the time, so forget about neat hair styles.  Don't be surprise to see some topless women and or string bottoms.
Had bar on beach ,  2 portable potties   , I always went in a room if I needed one, last day was brave enough to use one, they kept them  clean, and a little bigger than regular ones, had full size mirror, which I missed in our room.  Around four o clock  people would start  making beach into passion restaurant, but never felt rushed to leave the beach. There is shower to wash the sand. Had some water activities for extra charge, didn't see any vendors trying to sell stuff. Looking toward beach on a left was some other properties  on a right, nothing, can't walk without shoes, because it gets rocky, one morning we walked that way toward high rise hotels, it took about 30 min, but it's not the best for walking, so took  bus the rest of the times.
The bus stops, right there. Bus and little mini van busses goes every 20 min or so, Sunday's and in the evening fewer,  Bus 1,30$ one way, 2,25 their money, which we ended up having. Most tourist places, bus drivers take and  give change in us$, but in food store we paid in US$ got change back in their florins.  Food store which we went  to and liked was Ling and sons, that's big store in a new building, prices maybe a little higher on some items then in US,  prices listed in their money. 1$= 1.78 florins. So in my head I would divide by two. It's a little more than half. Store works 8am-8pm, Sunday's and on holidays till 1pm only.
Easy to use the bus, went to downtown, about 10-15 min, was the last stop, to high rise hotels 5-10 min, the last bus we took few nights in a row 12:15am by senior frogs restaurant.
Taxi about 8$ from high rise hotels to amsterdam hotel, in the evening few dollars more.
Taxi on  Sundays 3$ more. 2$ for luggage if more than one per person. Airport to amsterdam hotel 22$ .
Mostly all restaurants have automatic 15% charge on a check.
Amsterdam manner resort had some program in the evenings,  like movie night on a beach, dinner with dancers, managers special hour, happy hour in a bar, we didn't participate in any of that. Other people did, and looked happy. Prices in their restaurants, and bars about the same like here in US in a nice restaurants or bars.
My husband made some local phone calls from hotel room, they have not big connection fee.

Airport:      When you get to Aruba , everybody needs to fill immigration form, then go through passport check, they will give you part of your filled immigration form, keep it safe, they will take it back when you will leave Aruba . So to get there wasn't bad, but leave Aruba  is the other story.    Come at least 3 hours before the flight.   Because.   First you cheek your bags, get the tickets, then need to go to passport control, go through security , then you picking up  your bag, which you checked in not too long ago.  With all your bags go through US immigration , then return your checked bag, go through security . Finally you can go to your gate, they have some places to eat there, with all these lines you can get hungry.   So in US you don't need to do any immigration .

Great location across from the beach. Dutch 'hagelslag en kaas' for breakfast and dinner on the beach at sunset. Loved it.

Stayed at the Amsterdam Manor Resort from 6/16 until 6/23 with our grown children - ages 21 and 18. Our last family vacation before our youngest goes off to college and the older one graduates college next year. The staff is outstanding from Napolean greeting you with a rum punch and taking all the luggage to the room, Pete at happy hour and our maid, Maronella. Everyone always said hello and, if you asked a question or had a problem, they took care of it. The resort itself is so well maintained and absolutely beautiful. Everywhere you turn there are potted flowers, or a bush, a palm tree or a cactus. We had one of the two bedroom suites and the room was more than enough for the 4 of us. We had a beautiful terrace overlooking Eagle Beach and spent many hours out there after the beach or a day of touring. I have nothing to say negative about this resort and the people who work there. We couldn't have asked for a better family vacation.

The only problem was lack of hot water for showers. Overall, the experience was a great one. The staff went out of their way to make the stay a pleasant one. The rooms and grounds are immaculate. The beach is right across the street and the bus stop is right in front of the resort. I would recommend the Amsterdam to anyone. Will definitely come back for another visit.
