“Thank you for the wonderful attention and care for our daughter who became ill while in Aruba”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2010

Many thanks to Cheng and Koen at the front desk, for their diligent attention and care. Our daughter became sick with a fever and severe throat infection while on vacation and staying at the Marriott. After it was obvious she would not get better without medical attention, we contacted the front desk and asked for their help in locating a doctor for our daughter. Cheng began working on locating a dr. immediately and never gave up until we were able to contact locate one and obtain the necessary prescription for an antibiotic. Cheng then made arrangements with security at the hotel to drive my husband to the nearby pharmacy to pick up the medication. Within a day or so, our daughter's fever broke and she began to feel better. We were soon able to relax and return to enjoying our stay at this beautiful place. It is always hard when you are faced with a medical situation while away from home, especially when traveling internationally. But Cheng's kindness and commitment to helping us gave us confidence that our vacation would be saved. And it was! Great personal attention, great compassion....we will not hesitate to return to the Aruba Marriott.

My friends and family said Aruba is the place to go for such a big event.
So, we planned the trip, it stared in April of 2010. Booking the flight, then hotel, getting the passports, And oh yes saving the money. We have never been out of the country before so we did not know what to expect.

We were sure of ONLY ONE THING, “THE MARRIOTT”, we’re Marriott’s biggest fans.
It took a day or two to relax and realize that we are with friends, because Marriott’s front desk associate Beverly Morris, took it personally. It seen that she took ownership of our vacation. it was her sold purpose to make certain that we were not only amount friends but family. I’ am not at all surprise to have had the pleasure of meeting such an outstanding associate at Marriott.
I would expect that this person would be in a Management Position in a year. Ms Morris, was Pleasant, Friendly, Professional, and her “Soft Skills” over all deserves recognition.

We’ll be back to Aruba Next year and with more family and friends.

Thanks for a great vacation, Marriott and Family.

HOTEL
Location
The location of the hotel was fine. It was the last resort on the strip of high rises (Ritz Carlton going up will change that as it will become the last). For some who prefer to be near the tourist strip of restaurants/bars and the mall, it was a bit inconvenient as it is not “right there” like several other hotels (Hyatt, Occidental, Riu, Playa Linda, etc.). It was not walking distance, but a quick five minute car ride so really not a big deal.

Taxis: plentiful everywhere and relatively cheap. From airport to high rise hotels $25. Going to restaurants was usually no more than $10 (max five people). We had the most awesome driver from the airport (Jose email: sacredfire@hotmail.com). We asked him questions about various sights and he offered to take us sightseeing one day at half of what the tour buses charge. We were a group of five plus a child. His minivan was very spacious, clean and air conditioned, so we were able to see all the sights with a private driver. This was a great experience. We cannot recommend him enough. He showed us EVERYTHING (Butterfly Farm, California Lighthouse, Natural Bridge, Casibara, Gold Ruins, etc. etc. etc.) He was patient and allowed us to take tons of pictures. He even made additional stop offs to allow us to get souvenirs. If you are a group of 4-6, USE HIM. He was great. We loved him so much we arranged for him to take us back to the airport.

Lobby
The lobby of this hotel was fantastic. Very open, spacious, high ceilings (unlike the Occidental and Hyatt). There is a huge sitting area with countless sofas, chairs, tables etc. and a lovely bar in the middle. I was very wowed by the lobby. Also has a sushi bar and a café (open 24 hours) that serves excellent coffee/espresso, desserts, ice cream and salads, sandwiches, etc.

Check in
Staff is great. Super nice. Very eager to please. Everyone had a smile on their faces and were ready and willing to answer questions and help out in any way possible. Bellhop was helpful, kind and gracious.

Casino
Awesome. The largest on the island. We spent almost every night there after returning from dinner.

Rooms
Standard rooms were gorgeous and above our expectations. We had both a kind and double. King had a nice little sitting area with a loveseat, chairs and a coffee table. The double had a chair only (second bed didn’t allow for the loveseat and table). Linens and décor are exactly as shown on the hotel’s website. Bathrooms had double sinks, plenty of soft, fresh towels every day, great toiletries. All rooms have balconies with pretty good views. Ours had a view of pool area and an ocean view. Rooms were adequately cleaned every day. Staff is eager to please.

Restaurants
La Vista: We only ate at La Vista while there. Breakfast buffet on Sunday at La Vista is incredible. A bit pricey for some at $30 p/p, but we felt it was well worth it. Weekday breakfast buffets were great. Pretty much everything you could expect was served. Weekdays were $25 p/p. My daughter (4 y/o) ate for free every day. We had several lunches at La Vista (all a la carte) and the food was great. Typical fare consisting of salads, pizzas (garlic chicken is great!) and sandwiches (try the crispy fish wrap). Sandwiches were huge and came with a ton of fries so after the first day we ordered one sandwich for every two people. Drinks were good and about $10 each. La Vista has different themed buffet dinners every night (Seafood, Rome, Sicily, Mediterranean, etc). We went off property for dinners though.

Waves/Pool Bar: food was good (nachos, sandwiches, salads, etc.). Drinks were ok (not that strong) and cost about $10. They have a special drink every day for $8 and there are various happy hours where they are a bit cheaper at $7-8.

Ruth Chris Steakhouse: Has a special three course menu for $99 for two people that seemed nice. Didn’t get to try it though.

Room Service: prices were what you would expect. Not a bad deal for kids meals.

Beach/Pool: terrific. Plenty of lounge chairs by the pool. The pool was not as big as some other hotels, but always clean, and never really crowded. The beach was gorgeous. The water was aqua and crystal clear. No rocks, seaweed. Just pure white, soft sand. Palapas had to be reserved in advance, but there were lots of chairs. There is a stand offering Parasail, Jetski, floaters, etc. right on the Marriott beach. Towels were plentiful and never a hassle to get. We spent a lot of time at the beach.

Overall, the hotel was fantastic, well above my expectations. There is a piano singer on Saturday and Wednesday nights. He was awesome and pulled a large crowd. There is a business center and two additional computers for internet access ($5 for 20 mins). There are shops throughout (Jewelry, Clothing/Swimsuits, and Gift Shop with inflatables, beach toys, snacks/soda/water/wine, etc. etc. The concierge desk was very helpful and they have books of menus of the nearby restaurants. This was super helpful! There is a Hertz rental desk on site and also a Red Sail Sports (RSS) Desk. We took a RSS Catamaran snorkeling cruise, and it was a ton of fun. It’s 4 hours and they made three snorkeling stops, one of which included a sunken ship site. The food on the boat was great. The drinks were strong and delicious. They charged the cost directly to our room. Totally recommend!

Restaurants off property
Buccaneer: go here if you have kids! They will love the aquarium with tons of fish and sea turtles. The food was very good, and not too pricey. Great spot and was only a five minute drive from the Marriott.

Pam Pam: way off property at a 20 minute drive, but totally worth it. The food was delicious. Some days they have a prix fix menu that is a great deal. We ordered a la carte for six and had a bottle of wine and our bill was only $160.

Salt and Pepper: located in the strip behind the Hyatt and other high rises. Tapas dishes were terrific and a great deal (most are around $5). Their sangria was delicious. Great spot if you have kids as the portions are very small and priced accordingly.

Sawasdee Thai: five minute drive from the Marriott. Delicious food and at great prices. Drinks were super cheap, were very strong and tasted great.

Overall, we had the best time. Our group was four senior citizen ladies, a thirty something (me) and my four year old daughter. We were treated great every where we went, and everyone on this island has a smile on their face. We LOVED the Marriott. Feel free to email me with any questions.

Our first time in Aruba and so glad that we chose a beautiful hotel. The resort is right on the beach and the views of the water are spectacular. The room was spacious and nicely decorated and the view from the balcony......WOW. We enjoyed the restaurants, one was right on the beach....literally and the Hotel restaurant was equally wonderful. The staff were always helpful and friendly. We went with another couple and had one of the best times together......so glad that we chose the Marriott.

My husband Mike, and our best friends Linda and David enjoyed an absolutely wonderful week at the Marriott. The hotel, staff, and everyone involved in the hotel's being was absolutely wonderful. From the minute you was into the front door and meet the bellman you know you are in the right place. The desk clerks, maids and bellhops were great and always pleasant. They make the Aruba slogan "One Happy Island" a reality at the hotel. There is absolutley nothing you need that they do not try to provide for you. Ruth Chris is a great restaurant as well as Simply Fish which are both on the property. The pool area is very inviting, jThe beach was so peaceful and relaxing. The rooms were very clean and everyone in the Tradewinds Room would do whatever they could to make reservatons for you or to make your time at the hotel a very enjoyable. Whenever we needed anything - a car, restuarant reservation the Marriott Staff stepped up to bat and did whatever they could do to make your stay pleasant and without stress. This was one of the best vacations we have taken. We were there to celebrate and we had just the place in which to celebrate. We have not been to Aruba in 40 years...the island has changed but the atmosphere and people have not...they are the same as they were then friendly and helpful...I would recommend not only the island, but the Marriott if I was to go back...This is a most wonderful place to stay and enjoy a restful and relaxing vacation. Traveled with my husband for a little vaca. The hotel was great overall. Rooms were very clean, comfortable and bug-free. We had a spacious balcony facing north, so we had a partial view of the ocean, but mostly we looked out over the road. The hotel outside the room was fine, although it had a bit of a funky smell in the lobby. The beaches are beautiful, most days we rented floats and hung in the ocean, but it was nice to have a palapa to store our stuff. People line up starting around 3:30 or even earlier for the palapa sign-up that opens at 4. They are limited, so if you're at the end of the line you might not get a prime position, but we did get one everyday and the beach is pretty small, so you're never too far from the ocean. We ate at Simply Fish one night and the food and ambiance was really lovely, but warning, as soon as the sun sets the mosquitoes are out in full force, we were eaten alive. That was the only time during the whole trip that we were bitten. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. The gym was great, open 24 hours and free. We both had a massage at the spa that was nice, not amazing, but still good. We had breakfast at the buffet a few mornings and were happy with the food, standard hotel buffet and omlette station. Overall the trip was really relaxing and lovely. We would go again and highly recommend.
