My husband and I stayed at the Bucuti from March 30 - April 6. Having stayed in the high rise area for the last 4 years, and not having stayed on Eagle beach since our honeymoon in 1988, we wanted to give Eagle beach another try. Our 20th wedding anniversary is coming up in May, and we thought celebrating it at Bucuti would give us the peaceful and romantic vacation we were looking for. The reviews here on Trip Advisor had a large part in our choice of the Bucuti.
We arrived at 4:30 and checked in without a problem and were offered a cold drink while going through the paper work. Upon arriving into our room, there was a bag with a Happy Anniverary balloon (when booking we indicated we were celebrating our anniversary), and the bag had a bottle of champagne, chocolates, Gouda cheese and crackers in it - a VERY nice touch! We had room 245, a superior room, which we knew was going to be a garden view. The view of the ocean was obstructed a bit, but we could see it if we looked out of our balcony to the right. The manager left a voice mail message in the room welcoming us and thanking us for choosing the Bucuti - another nice touch!
The room was beautifully done in dark woods and warm colors, and was very clean and accomodating. A shelf or two was kept available for our personal items in the small fridge. We found the balcony to be bigger than most of the balconies we have had in other hotels.
The beach is absolutely gorgeous. Having stayed at the high rise section the last 4 years, this was quite a change. It is spacious and the palapas are quite far apart from each other, a welcome change from the more crowded palapas on Palm Beach. The area is quiet, but there are restaurants within walking distance.
It is certainly not necessary to rent a car, but we knew we'd be heading up to the high rise area at night, so we rented one for the week. We also like to buy snacks and alcohol, so having the car to go the market was great.
Now, back to the beach...it really is beautiful. The water was crystal clear, and although they had been experiencing some roughness over the past 2 weeks, it was only very rough a few days. I was up and out of the room by 8:00/8:30 in the morning and never had a problem securing a palapa even in the 2nd row. Even if we had not headed down to the beach early, the beach was never fully crowded so that you could not find a palapa. The beach was quiet and peaceful.....heaven!!!
The manager checked in with us twice while eating the continental breakfast outside at the Pirate's Nest and asked us how we were doing. So nice to see this kind of attention in a small resort. The wait staff was very friendly, as was everyone else that worked there. We are friendly people by nature, and the employees really do appreciate it when you ask them "how are you doing?". As we like to think and in most cases, you give what you get. A smile and friendly hello goes a long way!
Breakfast was good and fine for us - nothing too fancy, but everything you would expect in a continental breakfast. You can also order eggs, omelets, etc., for an additional fee. The servers will ask you to sign a slip showing $9 per person for breakfast. They do NOT charge you, they do this as a way of monitoring their costs - they tell you this upfront the first day you eat breakfast. We only had lunch once at the Pirate's Nest, it was very good!
We found out that the Bucuti will be raising their prices next year, they haven't done this in a few years. However, the new price will include a full breakfast and not just a Continental breakfast.
I can't say enough about our time at the Bucuti. It was everything we hoped for and more! There were couples of all ages; a very nice mix of people. We'd love to be able to go back next year, but will have to see how it works out with the new rates. Also, if you have AAA you will get a discount, but you have to show your card and tell them up front when booking.
All in all, I would suggest this resort to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation on a gorgeous beach - you won't be sorry! If you're looking for a non-stop party type of vacation, this isn't the place for you. We went to the high rise section at night for gambling and walking around, and it worked perfectly for us!
