“Nice Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

My wife and I stayed at this Divi Resort May 6-13, 2013. Check in and check out was very easy and there were no surprise charges as sometimes occurs. This was our first time staying in a studio since we generally exchange our timeshare for a one or two bedroom; however, this was not an exchange so we gave the studio a try. It was an excellent choice. Even with a king size bed, there was plenty of space for the two of us. The unit had a well equipped kitchen and also a washer and dryer. We cook several meals in the unit, so the kitchen was appreciated and the staff willingly provided additional pans as requested. We stayed on the top floor 2350 and had a good view of the golf course and also a sea view. The balcony was large enough to have meals at the table and comfortably could accommodate four people if needed. The swimming pools and hot tub were nice and the grounds well taken care of and clean. The cleaning lady did an exceptional job often doing things not expected but much appreciated. The beaches were beautiful and not crowded in most areas; we liked the beaches probably more than any out of all of the Caribbean islands we have visited. The only recommendation we had was that the resort could use a faucet or something near the entrance to the grounds since you have to walk across the street to the beach. It would be nice to have a place to rinse off the sand before walking back to your unit (they do have a good shuttle to the beach but it is a nice walk from the unit and we preferred that to the shuttle). We always rent a car and it was nice to have the flexibility to visit the various beaches/snorkel sites and other sites on the island. We would definitely stay here again.

A small hassle to walk across the road to the beach..........but, WHAT A BEACH!!!!!!! Nothing short of amazing. Found all staff to be very helpful, except the bar staff at the free form pool (ATTITUDE!!!). All bars on the premises have happy hours. One of the best restaurants on Aruba, Windows, is right here. This was our 2nd year staying and our experience was consistent with the previous year. Great balcony to sit on for drinks in the evening or enjoy coffee in the morning. We had the one bedroom and our friends had the adjoining mini suite. Both units have well equipped full size kitchens with dishwashers.........heaven!!!!! Love the Italian restaurant at the Lighthouse, enjoyed Tierra del Sol restaurant this year. Two new finds that we won't miss from year to year will be Charlie's Bar in San Nicolas as well as Zeerover in Saventa. We went to both of these twice while we were there in January. Treasures for sure. If you want great beaches, great weather and lots of fish to eat......this is your place!

My husband and I just spent a week at the Divi Golf Resort for our honeymoon and had a fantastic experience!

PROS
FOOD:
- As part of our all inclusive package, we had access to all the Divi restaurants...
- a la carte restaurants were fabulous, especially the Red Parrot!
- Mulligan's had THE best onion rings ever!
- We tried Mulligan's for breakfast, but preferred the buffet instead as it had more variety
- if you like beer, try the local Balashi - it's similar to Stella...v good!
EXTRA:
- Golfing was free for us after 3pm and was a great course to play - watch out for the water! Bring extra golf balls!
SERVICE:
- Concierge and Rene at the front desk were extremely hospitable, as was Chriselda at Mulligan's; overall, the staff was very responsive to your needs
BEACH:
- one word...WOW! We took a walk to the Riu and found the waters up the coast to be rougher and cloudier. Our beach was amazing! It's a bit of a walk down past the lobby and across the street, but if you're concerned about the steps, there's s trolley every few minutes to take you around the resort
ROOMS:
We had a condo room with a full kitchen, washing machine and king bed. Fabulous! And very spacious for 2 people! No complaints!
CONS
Food:
- breakfast buffet got really boring by Day 5...same thing EVERY day! But still good overall
- Lettuce wasn't always the freshest for salads
- I wish they had more local fare on the buffet
- Windows on Aruba Restaurant:This was an extra $35+ pp for AI. ...not worth it in my opinion. Alcohol is NOT included. The appetizers were good (we had the scallops and the shrimp + escargot), but the mains were average. After eating at the Red Parrot the night before, we actually preferred it to this restaurant. Also the "view" must be fabulous from the restaurant at dusk...but after the sun goes down you really don't see much of anything except the interior lights reflecting off the windows. I reco saving your $ and having dinner at Mulligan's for free!
SERVICE:
- The staff at the Divi are "hit and miss" when it comes to hospitality. After vacationing in DR, Cuba, Mexico, and traveling across the globe, we found much of the Divi wait staff to just seem unhappy to be at work. I felt more like they were there to do a job and leave instead of trying to make their guests feel a part of the Divi family. It's unfortunate as the Divi really is amazing and has a lot going for it. But after getting "grunts" from staff when you ask for a drink, or a mechanical "what can I get you" with no smile, it brings your vacation experience down just a little. I would still definitely reco this resort to anyone and we will likely go back for a future anniversary...but I would hope that the Divi Management could find a way to hire some more friendly and outgoing team members - especially in the restaurants. We are friendly folks, who like to laugh and chat with the locals...and we do tip!...but even this didn't help.
ENTERTAINMENT:
Unlike many AI resorts, the Divi doesn't have a large entertainment staff and there aren't "shows" put on nightly. They do instead have various lounge-type singers and bands come to the resorts as well as dancers. If you're looking for a party resort, I suggest staying closer to the Riu side of the beach strip. The Divi side is much more relaxing and quiet. Not much happens after 11pm.

Final Notes:
If you're squeamish when it comes to reptiles, you may note enjoy Aruba - there are iguanas, geckos, and lizards ALL over the resort. You get used to them after a few days. I tried to pet one, but they don't linger when a human approaches! LOL! We even had one visit us on our balcony...who knew that iguanas can climb walls! (FYI, they really are harmless)
Shopping... there is a flea market within walking distance of the resort on Fridays and Saturdays. Downtown is only a few minutes by cab and has some high end shopping and Starbucks too! If you want deals and souvenirs, checkout Main Street - everything is a little cheaper! Remember that everything is closed on Sundays! Saturdays the stores close at 6pm unless there's a ship at the pier...then they stay open until 9pm.
Excursions - Rather than pay for these, we opted to rent a jeep for 2 days and explore the island. It was well worth it and VERY safe!
We went to Baby Beach - a must! Plan at least half the day to spend there. (FYI...getting there is easy, just follow the signs...but once you turn right at the Red Anchor, keep driving past the Refinery sign and turn left past the church). Bring your towels. You can rent beach chairs here, but laying on the sand is great! There's a little restaurant as well if you want to purchase drinks/food.
On your way back, stop off at Zeerover. It's a local restaurant in Savaneta. What a place! A must try! You purchase your fresh fish at the hut and then go get a seat at the back in the restaurant off the pier while the chef cooks up your fare and serves it to you in a bowl! AWESOME!
If you need alcohol BUY IT AT DUTY FREE!!! Even the local supermarkets charge a fortune! ($11 USD for a 6 pack of minis of Balashi beer!)
California Lighthouse: A must see! Gorgeous at night!

Have a great time on the happy island! You won't be disappointed!

We stayed at the Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort Apr 28 - May 3, 2013. We used RCI to trade out our DVC timeshare. I wasn't totally sure what to expect when I booked the room. However, I emailed the resort about 6 weeks before we were scheduled to arrive and they confirmed that we would have a one bedroom golf villa. Upon arrival to the resort (via taxi from the airport) we waited in line to check-in. Check-in was relatively painless. The bellman then placed our bags on the golf cart shuttle...and we were off to our room. The room was beautiful - large living room, dining area, mater bedroom, and 2 full size bathrooms (one in master and one in hallway) and full size kitchen. (Note that there is no oven, however the microwave is a Microven, which seemed to be able to microwave, bake, and grill). The kitchen does have a full size dishwasher, fridge, toaster, blender, pots/pans, silverware, plates, cups, wine glasses, serving dishes, etc. Basically anything you would need to cook. We went to the Ling and Sons grocery store the next morning and stocked up on breakfast and lunch food. It was easy to get to the grocery store, the shuttle will take you to the end of the Divi Dutch Village resort - then you just cross the street and walk about 2 blocks. We did take a cab back to the resort, since we had quite a few bags. (cost was $7 for cab).
The pools are great and we had a nice view of the golf course. However, the best thing about this resort is the beach! We were located at the very end of the golf villas....and it only took about 5 minutes to walk to the beach.
If you do not want to eat at the resort, or in your room....you will need to take either the bus or a cab to the high rise section. There aren't many restaurants close by. We ate at Passions on the Beach one night and took a cab there ($9). The trip home via cab was $11 (not sure why there was a difference).
I do NOT recommend the pizza from Mulligans. We ordered it one night when we stayed in....it cost $13 and was really small, paper thin, and tasteless.
There were always plenty of chairs and palapas available on the beach. We were usually there about 9am each morning. The water is clear and warm, with perfect soft white sand. The beach never felt crowded - like it can be in the high rise area.
We felt completely safe in Aruba. We took the bus to the cruise ship terminal in order to browse the shops there. It was $2.30 each way per person. I had seen $1.30 advertised all over for the bus price - but that is only if you have their fare card (or something similar). Still, the bus stop is fairly convenient. It is right across the street and a little south of the Tamarijn.
The weather was about 90 degrees each day and the sun is intense. However, there really is a constant wind that keeps you feeling cool. It really is a wind, not just a breeze....your hair will have a wind-blown look 100% of the time :)
Overall, I would come back to the Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort the next time we visit Aruba. We loved Aruba. It is a wonderful place to come and relax on the beach. Aruba has the prettiest beaches I have ever seen. However, besides the beach - the island is basically a desert with nothing much to see/do. We took a jeep tour around the island (booked with DePalm tours - right in the lobby). It was worth it to see the island, but I won't need to go on another jeep tour of Aruba again :)

Room Tip: There are no elevators, so if you have trouble with stairs, you might want to ask for ground floor.

An awesome place on a fabulous island - the water is so blue and clear, the sunsets.are phenomenal, wonderful shopping, amazing restaurants. While it is quite warm, there is a constant breeze blowing so you are comfortable. The Divi Dutch village is a conglomerate of timeshares, but there are usually units available for rent.

This was our first trip to Aruba, but we went with another couple who were seasoned Aruba visitors. Stayed at the Links at the Divi Golf and Beach Resort. Our friends had a one bedroom timeshare and we were able to add a suite adjoining theirs for a very reasonable $431. The suite was roomy, clean and comfortable. It had everything you needed for a week's stay. The maid service was great. We enjoyed the clean infinity pool witrha swim up bar. The beach across the street was one of the nicest beaches I have been too. White sand, clean beach and water. Very Nice!!

I checked in the last week of April 2013. I stayed in Eagle V bldg. My condo was large and spacious. I was on the patio floor. It had comforts like sound surround for the flat screen in the living room. The furniture was somewhat aged but clean. The condo has two full baths including Jacuzzi tubs. There are two patios, one outside the living room and the other outside the master bedroom. There is plenty of closet space. I stayed in a one bedroom. The king size bed was welcomed after a long flight. The kitchen has marble countertops and updated appliances. The living room is roomy and it adjoins the dining room. The table has chairs for six. The décor was pleasant and the grounds were well kept. On the top of the bldg there is a four person hot tub. There is a gas grill and a table with chairs that makes the area cozy. Also there is a nice sink for cleaning up. Bring your own music. The area is secured with a card entry drive through and a guard. The beach there is a must to see. At night the sunsets on the beach are romantic. Bring a camera. There are local stores to walk to and a Save a Lot market within ten minutes driving time. Also don’t forget on Thursday’s. There is a Caribbean Carnival located in San Nicholaas downtown area. It starts around seven at night.
