We spent 4 nights at the "Adam & Eve" room. We really were torn on how to review this place. A few days before we were to arrive, I received an email from Roy advising that he was to be out of the country during my reservation, and provided me with the cell phone number of his wife. I didn't think much of this at the time, but it clearly was a sign that things were not as they should be. In all of the emails that I exchanged with Roy when making the reservation, he noted that breakfast was to be served starting at 7AM. As we're typically early risers, this was great, because we made arrangements in advance that assumed that we'd be done with breakfast by around 8AM. However, upon arrival, we were greeted by Roy's wife, Grace who commented that she would provide breakfast at 8AM. She showed us to our room, and commented that since Roy was out of town, she would "do her best" to make us comfortable. That sounded great, but didn't exactly inspire much confidence. We inquired about the wifi password, and Grace literally had no clue what it was, and copied down a list of possible passwords for us, none of which were 100% accurate. We tend to rely on wifi when we travel, as its very handy if we want let relatives & friends know we're ok, do some spur of the moment research on a restaurant that we saw while driving around, or look up driving directions or opening hours for something. After fighting with the wifi passwords for an hour, I eventually figured out that the right password was actually a combination of two different passwords that Grace had written down. If this was the only issue during the entire stay, I would have brushed it off as a minor issue, and likely not even mentioned it.
However, the following morning we were up & waiting for breakfast at 8AM, and Grace was no where to be found. At around 8:10AM she literally stumbled out of the house commenting that she had slept through her alarm. To add insult to injury she then asked us what we wanted for breakfast. This would have been an amazing gesture had she asked this question the day before, but to ask us when you're already technically 70 minutes late for breakfast was incredibly frustrating. We had no clue how to respond to that question, as this isn't a restaurant, so we can't just name something randomly and logically expect that she'd have the ingredients and knowledge of how to make it. We eventually settled on omelettes for breakfast, and the food was fine. But the fact that we were clearly being bent to Grace's schedule was rather frustrating.
The 2nd full day, we needed to be out at Palm Beach by 8:45AM to catch a snorkeling cruise. Had breakfast been offered at 7AM as originally promised, then everything would have worked out perfectly. However, since Grace wasn't willing to provide breakfast any earlier than 8AM (and then it was still subject to her inability to wake up on time), we decided not to even bother with her breakfast, and simply found something near Palm Beach.
On the 3rd full day, we were up waiting for breakfast at 8AM, and once again, Grace wandered out to ask us what we wanted. We went through the motions yet again, and settled on omelettes. We commented that the next morning we needed to leave no later than 6AM to catch our flight home, so we'd be skipping breakfast. Grace offered to prepare breakfast for us at 5:30AM. We were pleasantly surprised by this offer, and readily accepted. However, she also requested that we knock on her door as soon as we're awake, just in case she misses her alarm.
On the final morning, my wife knocked loudly on Grace's door at 5:10AM, and there was no answer or response. We hoped that didn't mean anything, and when 5:30AM rolled around, we were seated at the table in the garden waiting for breakfast. Sadly, the house was still dark, and Grace was no where to be found. We knocked on her door yet again, and still there was no response. We sat around in the mostly dark garden for another 30 minutes, and finally gave up and left for the airport at 6AM.
I should note that our room was quite nice. It was clean, the beds were comfortable, and everything was in working order. If this was a 'normal' hotel, and not a bed & breakfast, they likely would have gotten 4 or 5 'circles' as a rating in the review. However, they repeatedly failed miserably on the "breakfast" portion of the equation, and this was after telling us one thing, and then doing another altogether. If they weren't equipped to provide breakfast when they said they would, then the least they could have done was offered some form of compensation. At a minimum I would have expected an email apologizing, yet its been several days since we departed, and I've heard nothing.
I've noticed that in all the positive reviews, only Roy is mentioned. He seems to prepare the meals, and run the B&B. Its rather unfortunate that Roy wasn't around while we stayed there, as I'm guessing that our experience would have been quite different under those circumstances.
