“Great price, friendly hosts, clean and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

Hidden Eden was a blessing for my husband and I. We were only in Aruba three nights before heading to Venezuela and we were looking for an safe, clean and economic place to stay during the 2012 Christmas season. We were looking for beaches and activities, not for casinos and shopping. Hidden Eden was perfect; the room we stayed in was comfortable, there was lots of space for luggage and the air conditioning worked fine. Beach towels were provided which made packing a lot easier.

The common area is a huge, beautiful garden where you can read and have breakfast with other guests in the morning. Breakfast was always different and very good. The other guests were always very open and sharing about what they recommended on the island and where to go. Roy, the host/cook, is very helpful and will even bring you to your beach of choice in the morning if he is available. Because of the location I would advise renting a car so that you can go to and from Hidden Eden as you want; while taxis are available, some days we paid as much in taxi fees as we would have renting a car (taxi's are well regulated on the island so prices are always fair). Regardless, renting a car would have made exploring the island a little easier and it appears that there is adequate parking in most areas and at many of the beaches.

We will definitely plan on staying at Hidden Eden on our next trip to Aruba!

Hidden Eden is a great hideaway from the crowded hotel area on Aruba. Roy and Grace are lovely hosts and treated us like family! They shared a wealth of knowledge if asked but they were never intrusive. Roy even shared some books with me. Their gardens are spectacular and you are free to relax in hammocks or in comfy chairs. Roy's pancakes are to die for, especially with the Dutch apple butter! We would definitely recommend Hidden Eden to friends and family.

Staying at Hidden Eden B&B made our Aruba Christmas vacation (12/25 – 12/30) really special. If you like to stay with a real Aruban family and learn about their fascinating and beautiful little island this would be the perfect place for you. (If you like the hustle and bustle of big hotels and want to be in the middle of it all, this is not your kind of place).
Roy and Grace are friendly and generous hosts who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We stayed in cottage number 3, our room was much bigger than any hotel room. We had everything we needed; a large bathroom with excellent water pressure and hot water, two really comfortable beds, a well-working air-conditioner and all the peace and quiet in world. Breakfast took place in the lush garden area where we would meet the other guests and often spent time chatting and exchanging travel tips. My philosophy holds true: stay at interesting places and you meet interesting people.
Hidden Eden is about 5 minutes by car from Eagle Beach. If you do not rent a car or a motor scooter, taxis are readily available and come within 5 minutes of calling. Roy will offer to drive you whenever he is free (but please, people, do not take advantage of his friendliness and let him have some well-deserved rest).

We stayed at Hidden Eden for 2 nights on our way home from Bonaire in June 2012. We chose it because we didn't want or need to pay resort prices for such a short stay. Hidden Eden is several miles outside of Oranjestad, which has some pros and cons, depending on what you want to do while visiting Aruba. It's easy enough to drive back into town, though the traffic there seemed heavy. On the other hand, Hidden Eden is in a residential area, so if you want a quiet base of operations, have a rental car, and prefer to eat on your own, it's a great option. We went snorkeling and visited Arikok National Park, so it didn't matter to us that we were not in town. The main disadvantage of the location for us was that there wasn't a place to grab something to eat (at least that our hosts could recommend) within walking distance.

Hidden Eden is a slightly unusual B&B–instead of the rooms being in the house, they are free-standing behind it, surrounded by Roy and Grace's elaborate walled garden–if you're a gardener, you'll probably love it, and even if you're not, it's pretty impressive! We met both of our hosts, but mostly interacted with Roy, who was excellent company at breakfast (which he made for us) and told us a lot about his family, life in Aruba, Arikok Park, etc. We also got a great tip from his son regarding where to go for dinner--Zeerover in Savaneta (look it up here on TripAdvisor!). Hidden Eden is equipped with WiFi, though we found it worked better out in the garden. Roy and Grace have dogs and cats who are sometimes out and about in the garden, so if you have allergies, please take note.

As of December 2012, their web site has not been updated to reflect all of the rooms available. Our room was one of the newer ones. It was very large–probably the size of an efficiency apartment–and had A/C, a sink and fridge, a bathroom, and full tile floors and metal rack shelving to handle beach gear. Beach towels were also provided. It was only after we left that it occurred to me that (at the time, at least) there was no TV–but obviously I didn't miss it! Outlets were North American-style, but there may have also been some European ones. Since the place was new when we stayed there were still a few rough spots, but nothing problematic. A small table and a couple of chairs would have been a nice addition, as there was plenty of room.

I recommend Hidden Eden for single travelers, friends or couples either on a budget and/or for whom the casinos and shopping in town are not a big draw.

If I ever go back to Aruba, I would definitely look into Hidden Eden again!

My friend and I spent four nights at this great little B&B. Roy; his wife, Grace; and their son, were the most hospitable owners! Roy was able to drive us to the beach and occasionally to downtown due to our not having a rental car. The room was relatively big and clean and had an A/C, a fridge, and a sink. Roy was even amenable to people using the kitchen to cook their dinners.

The only downside for us was that, without a rental car, it was hard to get around without having to pay a $9 cab fare to go anywhere. But this wasn't a downside to the B&B, just make sure you have a lot of cab fare, or rent a car.

We had a great time, met great people there, and we highly recommend this place!

I had a wonderful few days staying at Hidden Eden. Roy was super helpful in sorting out my reservation (and was also able to help me with some research I was doing on the island), and when I finally arrived I was delighted at how lovely and peaceful the B&B was. My room was spotless and had cold A/C, a fridge, and a sink. Hidden Eden is not far from the beach or the city centre. Evenings were spent chatting on the plant-lined patio with Grace (Roy was out town when I arrived though he was in contact via email to make sure everything was all right with my stay) and other family members who happened to be visiting. It was one of the most relaxing places I have been in the Caribbean, and I look forward to returning!
