We found Gostoso's via Tripadvisor (of course), and though I hate to sounds like a broken record, I can only reiterate the wonderful reviews we read. The restaurant, food, and staff were all WONDERFUL. We dined there for dinner on a Friday evening, arriving at 6pm, early enough to beat the rush since we didn't have reservations. Parked right out front (there is limited parking). The ambience of the place is great - very romantic lighting and we loved the decor. It's a somewhat small restaurant, but perfectly quaint.
Shortly after being seated we were greeted by the waiter for drink orders, then the Chef/Owner Jose came out to tell us about the specials and answer questions about menu items. My wife had the white Sangria, which she said was the best sangria she had ever had (that's saying a lot, since she is a HUGE sangria fan). For starter she had the seafood chowder, which she raved about, even moreso than the Galinda Stoba entree. I loved the Espetada Portuguese Style (with pepper sauce/glaze) -- The presentation was great, but the taste was even better. Both the beef and the chicken came with mixed vegetables and plaintains.
Those reviews that speak highly of their hot-sauce were dead-on! The BEST hot-sauce I've ever tasted...hands down...we put it on virtually everything, and it was wonderful. Jose could close the restaurant and make a mint just selling the sauce. It seemed corn-based, similar to Chipotle corn salsa, but with nice sweat heat, and a wonderful texture. I'd buy it in bulk...even if perishable ;)
The experience was fabulous - the staff brought us a coconut flan for birthday dessert, and sang for my wife as well. The other guests were all very friendly, and it was a meal we won't soon forget. Total bill for 2 with drink and tip was less than $80 USD.
