I realise looking at other reviews that i am going to be in the minority here but i can only say it as we experienced it. we booked this holiday for our 30th wedding anniversary and i honestly don't really know where to begin? So I will start with the good bits.
We found the resort its surroundings and gardens to be from really good to excellent, the rooms are although over furnished we found no space for our cases! where well kept clean and tidy air con top class fan also in the rooms two queen beds great location right on the beach,
bathroom was as close to luxurious as you would need on the negative our back door lock was not working and was only fixed two days before our departure but you do have a stick they ask you to leave wedged in between the patio doors for security.
Pool was a bit small and to be honest a bit like being a gold fish in a bowl as it is surrounded by loungers.
Overall couldn't really fault the condition of the hotel or its amenities nor would we want too.
But for us some of the things that happened to us and experienced by us where plainly not acceptable and although some nitpicky things happened added together it made for an overall not very good at worst bad experience.
Before anyone jumps on us at first we did tip regularly only stopping when we realised tipping made little to no difference with our service.
Bad bits ...... Paparazzi dining worst service we have ever had the displeasure of in our life's they have a not very well advertised air conditioned bar in the paparazzi one night at approximately eighth thirty they had two naked men on the telly having sex! In a family facility the bar man was informed and changed channels can't go into details but this added to the worst service ever bread rolls being thrown on to the table by waitress from the opposite table knocking glasses ect over was just the start.......like I say not good at best?
We did go back a couple of days later to try again! Wanted to have a drink in the air con bar and watch live nascar before our meal walked into an empty bar went to turn the telly over, i glanced over as my wife said I think he was watching that? the bar man pulled a right face!, so I said sorry mate ill put the news back on for you to which he replied I jest you not ...IDIOT, You have spoilt it for me now! ...
Well I was not a happy bunny me and the bar man argued and me and the wife left I did complain on both occasions but no one was interested.
It was our 30th wedding anniversary I asked if anything could be done reg flowers, bubbly in room also i see advertised on the divi resort channel, sunset dining on the beach at this resort so i asked the hotel and rep nothing no reply no help nothing, i was basically told to go to the wedding shop? I was confused as i didn't want to get married? This story goes on and on but needless to say on the day of our anniversary nothing nowt zippo not a towel animal on our bed, no flowers I did offer to pay for the set up of this but nothing, no bubbly like I said seems to me don't go here if you want to celebrate that special occasion unless you organise that special surprise yourself!
Bars... Tam bars most days understaffed and pretty long faced staff greet you? nearly every day and evening you will suffer from long waits for drinks, you serve yourself water off of the bar, some people will say the following is a good idea? I do not as this was advertised to us as a platinum resort .... The bars do not open till eleven in the morning and close at one o'clock so in the morning the bar tenders leave the soft drinks dispenser out and you serve yourself I know you may think minor gripe but what am I paying for?
Rea drinks cocktails list of drinks not on show at pizza bar always willing to knock up a cocktail other bar more reluctant also just adds to the wait for everyone else. Ps you cannot get a mohito in this resort they do not make the drink here! No reasons given.
Entertainment worst anywhere we have ever visited compounded only by the fact that they have nowhere to properly do it .... Ie around the pool sitting on wet loungers, or in the food hall amongst people still dining only place I have ever been where the worst karaoke singers are more entertaining than any of the booked acts.
Maintenance/work terrible on our stay floors being laid badly in dining areas again complained with no responses, turned up from a trip one day to a massive trench that had been dug across the back of the room cancelling access to the beach had you sent a child out? Doesn't bear thinking about, next day returned back from lunch they had cut holes in the walls with disc cutters ruining our costumes that where on the balcony drying again complained with no reply, at no time do they give you any warning they gust go ahead and do it in front of you if necessary more examples could be given but you get the idea.
Trips our rep said submarine trip only one available in the Caribbean so we did it as we had decided we where not going to be returning visitors, on trip told we where on Atlantis 5 the other subs 1 to 4 where yep all based around the Caribbean?
But best tip don't take the palm island trip totally miss represented and miss sold, apart from being very very tired, you are paying over $100 each to go to a sandy isle that is far far worse than your resort when you are all inclusive anyway, we went for snorkelling and massage if you go out past red markers they blow a whistle at you and get you to return to shore?? Why I asked? Told if you want to go past markers you need to pay extra! As that is where the best of the reef is!
Relaxing massage! 40 min massage done to the sounds of factory hooters and workmen cutting up a boardwalk only some 40 feet away with industrial chainsaws I jest you not still only cost $132 for the massage! Then whilst on the island which is totally filled to the brim with loungers if you look back to the ferry that takes you 3 min ride you see the islands power plant and next to it the islands beer making factory! Both are very very big and very noisy, then look to the front, large tankers, cargo and container ships, everywhere not exactly a paradise isle give it a miss.
Which brings me to my final point this hotel is positioned right on the beach and also right next door to the islands main port/dock so all day you get to see ships of all different makes and classes both on the horizon and trust me up very close .....so close that you do not need a camera on zoom with your own eyes you can see and wave to the crews ....... Paradise sorry not in my books not at this price not with the obvious staffing problems not with the constant Kant/mosquito problems for which they do not spray! Not for the constant queuing you que everywhere que for the bar que to get in the restaurant que for the reception que for the booking desk weather this be for 10 mins or as on more that one occasion 30 mins is all time your either not at the beach or are away from the pool it's just too Much time out of what is your vacation on a daily basis
My opinion I mean no offence but I think this is a very very over rated resort/place with many problems that could be easily resolved we would have taken our money back at the offer and gone anywhere else as this just didn't hack it for us a £4500 holiday and a platinum resort???? Never, but admittedly we where shocked by the amount of Americans that where repeat visitors and who's opinion was that this is paradise.
We for many years have visited cuba and on trip advisor we often hear other peoples complaints followed by "well what do you expect this is cuba"
Well this was aruba twice as expensive as cuba and not a touch on it.
