“4 day getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

Great hotel for a short getaway, all-inclusive hotel with good quality food and drinks, excellent location and service. Pool area could be bigger and needs a little maintenance but with a beach front like the one they have it's a minor glitch.

My wife and I have been vacationing in Aruba for the last 8 years in February during the school vacation week. We started at the Radisson on Palm Beach which while lovely, had crowded beaches necessitating 5:30 am waits to reserve a palupa, views of the ocean were obtained by peering around the corner of the building while standing on the balcony and expensive breakfasts, lunches and dinners. We stumbled upon The Tamarijn All Inclusive, a Divi resort, pretty much by accident and have been returning faithfully for the last 6 years. I liken it to Motel 6 on the beach. The rooms are basic hotel rooms, king or queen beds, basic bathroom (small, no marble - but recently renovated and adequate {shower, no tub}), dresser with flat screen tv, small closet and seperate wardrobe with mini-refrigerator inside. But the beauty of the property is that all the rooms face the water. It is a sprawling, two-story property, one of the oldest of the "low rise" hotels not far from Orangestad. It is adequately maintained and has had periodic up grades (i.e. bathrooms). Our preference is for a first floor room which has a slider opening onto a small patio, with 2 chairs and a table, followed by a strip of lawn, a boardwalk, and then the beach with palupas placed in the sand along the length of the boardwalk. We also prefer a room in the 2500-2400 buildings, yes a bit of a walk to the restaurants, reception area - but significantly quieter than other areas. They do provide a shuttle service door to door if you find the walk too difficult. Second floor rooms are accessed by stairs only, no elevators and have balconies over looking the beach and water.
It is all inclusive and the breakfast and lunch buffets are quiet extensive. Eggs and omelettes are made to order, selections of hot breakfast meats, cold cuts, cheeses, yogurts, fruits, breads, rolls, bagels and muffins are available. Lunch always has a selection of hot meals, made to order pasta dishes, hot dogs, burgers, salads, sandwiches and desserts. There is a sandwich and pizza bar that you can walk up to and get take out or sit and enjoy with an adult beverage if you desire. The dinner buffet is also quite extensive and does not require reservations. There is an Italian and Asian restaurant that have set hours and days of operation and require reservations. There are also exchange previleges with the Red Parrot at the Divi Divi property as well as the upgrade ($35 US/per person) at Windows on Aruba at the Divi Golf Resort across the street. Both are worth doing. Free shuttle service from Tamarijn to the Divi Divi and Golf Resort as well as the Alhambra Casino is available from the reception area. All reservations for dinner on or off the Divi properties and activities can be handled by the very pleasant staff at the Guest Services desk. As for adult beverages, there are a couple of bars that are available and do an ok job especially if you enjoy a limited selection of beer or wine or enjoy "fruity umbrella" drinks. They have an extremely limited selection of topshelf liquors. On a entertainment note, they have some form of program at night after dinner such as dance bands, singer, or even a "Circ du Soliel" type performance all included as part of your stay.
The pool is located near the restaurants and reception area and is well attended. Activities to keep the kids occupied occur in this area. There is a computer room with a number of units available, just purchase minutes at the front desk and sign on.
For the athletic, there is a climbing wall, tennis and exercise facility (I have no personal knowledge of these areas - scuba diving and beaching are my forte). Beach floats and bicycles are available at the towel hut/activities center.
I would say that the Tamarijn covers everything you could want in an Island vacation. Comfortable rooms, easy access to a remarkable beach, as much or little activity as you care to participate in, a friendly and supportive staff in a secure and pleasant atmosphere.

Room Tip: Buildings 24 and 25 are the farthest from all the activities, restaurants, reception area but have t...

The Tam was once again, the perfect choice for our vacation. It was our third trip to this older hotel, but it has all we need: beachfront rooms, good food, and friendly staff. We had only one glitch: the front desk had no documentation that we had made room requests, even though we brought the emails with us. They did rearrange and get all 4 couples together, but it was not a good start to an otherwise perfect week.
We ate at every restaurant between the Divi and the Tam, and twice at the Red Parrot, by far our favorite. The trip desk helped arrange a dive trip, a catamaran trip, and a DePalm Island trip. Could have skipped the DePalm Island trip.
This is NOT a high-rise fancy resort. It is clean and well-kept. We'll be back!

Room Tip: We like to be beyond the bunker bar in buildings 19, 21, or 22. A distance from the noise and activi...

We stayed at this hotel as a family of 5 with 3 Teenagers.
It was a lovely, restful and most enjoyable stay. We had emailed the hotel a few weeks before our arrival, to request a particular room, as recommended on Trip Advisor. It worked and we were given 2 room on ground level, with patio doors opening up right up on the beach. I was in heaven! The rooms were clean and spacious and interconnecting, which was helpful to us. The room cleaning was done daily.

The beach was super and clean and safe. Although all the beaches in Aruba are public (and so they should be) we never had to worry about safety. The High Visibility Team were patrolling the beach regularly and we didn't witness any issues.

The sea was delightful to swim in and the hotel provided fantastic lilos and foam noodles for guests, which was fab. Towels were also provided for use on the beach, with an exchange service.

The food was delicious and plentiful on a buffet style arrangement, but there were also other restaurants, where you could book for more formal dining. We tried the Italian twice and enjoyed the food, but the buffet seemed to suit our teens better, as it gave them flexibility with whom they wanted to eat with.

The little train takes you to the sister hotel where we preferred to eat our evening meal, and dance the night away, after the evening show. Walking back along the beach was also fun as there are hammocks, so much fun to be had after wine!

We walked into the town on two occasions. One in the daytime, but it was too hot. The second time was in the evening, when we went to the cinema, and that was fine, and it's not too far, if you fancy a change of scenery.

If I were to return to Aruba, I would definitely stay here again and would have no hesitation in recommending this for a two week holiday destination.

You live only 10 m from the sea, on one of the world's finest beaches, Eagle Beach!
Nice rooms with clean toilets. The food is absolutely wonderful sound. You always have access to the buffet restaurant, but can also reserve a table at any of the 4 al la carte restaurants. The staff is absolutely wonderful!
I strongly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: The ground floor is to recommend, make sure to stay near the Bunker Bar.

Family with daughter and friend, stayed in ground level oceanfront room. The resort is very clean, food much than expected for an all inclusive, wonderfull breakfast buffet, omlet station, all of the rest you could ever ask for, plenty of variety. Lunch and dinner in any of the 4 restraunts, pizza for the kids anytime at the cafe. Pool is beautifull, cabana's all along the oceanfront, 2 bars on the water, frozen drinks for the kids, nice call drink without an up charge. Away from the MOB on the strip, this is the vacation you deserve, tropical serenity.

Cannot understand why people have a good moan about the food. They must be really picky.
The beach wonderful and never crowded.

We are back to the Divi June this year and look forward to visiting the sister hotel being the Tamarijn again.
