The furnishings really need to be updated. The unit itself was fine, with the kitchenette. Across the street is a grocery store that we found to be convenient for meals in our unit. The pools are very nice and well kept. The beach is about a 10 minute walk. We needed a car, as it is too far to walk to the Palm Beach area. You can get a taxi for $2.20 each way, although beware on Sundays they may come once every other hour. There is a bar, restaurant and casino on the property. The food was so/so, breakfast is lacking... Overall this was our first trip to Aruba, I would go back to the Tropicana, but this time I think we will try somewhere different.

I can't believe anyone would give this place a good review! Check in was supposed to be at 4 we got there at 2 so they said the room wasn't ready..understandable. We sat in the outdoor area since we were tired from the flight in clear view of the front desk staff. The front desk staff was rude unfriendly and had an oh well attitude throughout the whole stay. Room still not ready at 4 4:15 and 4:30 finally at 4:45 they gave us a key. Dirty room hair everywhere sheets were dirty and stained room furniture was old fridge was rusted everything smelled like mildew and was damp. There was sand all over the floor but after how rude the women at the front desk were we didnt bother saying anything. there was LOUD construction every morning starting at 6 am hammering chipping chiseling then to top it off they decided to work on one of the elevators too so about 2 days into this trip the jackhammering started. the housekeeping did nothing more than give different towels i would say new or clean but that was questionable based on the smell and hair all over them. the pillows were horrible as were the sheets and comforter all scratchy and were never changed in 8 days.Everytime i got in the bed i felt itchy like something was biting me.The attitude at the front desk was enough to make me not want to stay here but even if they hadnt been that way the room was gross and looked like the furniture was from 1980. It was worth about 3.75 a night. Oh one more thing we walked into the spa and the lady inside said yeah? with an attitude of course we said hi how are you and she didnt respond so we walked out

Room Tip: rooms outside of this hotel are the only thing you should consider

Thank you to the owners and staff for a wonderfull stay this February. We go to this resort; for the price, cleanliness of the entire pemises, safety, the location, the pool, the casino, and the proximity to the beach, in that order. We do not go on vacation to look out the window of our room. We reuire a safe, clean, dry, room.

We checked in for a stay from 2/3 thru 2/15. Our Febuary reservation could not be found! After some searching our reservation was found to have been listed with January dates! Without a lot of urging the front desk and reservation crew had a meeting of the minds. We were assigned to the penthouse in bldg. 4!!

This town home topped the suite we once had at the Divi Golf resort. This two level town home was gorgeous and spacious. The two of us were getting lost in the; 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 5 TV, 2 living room, suite. Of course there was also a hot tub located on the balcony with four chaise lounges, a couple of chairs and a large picnic table. There were 2 minor maintenace issues that
I reported to the front desk. In both cases the response and corrective measures were taken care of within 30 minutes (NY time / not Island time)

The only negative comment that I have is in regards to the bartender at the swim-up bar:
He couldn't make a "virgin colada" to save his life. Yes! I have been a bar keep.
He never annoinced Happy Hour..
Throughout the day he played music to suit his own taste, Latin. Not that of the customers.
The volume of the music was always changing for no apparent reason; muted, loud, low, loud
muted, low, etc.
Last but not least is his loud, obnoxious, voice. Another guest described his laugh as coming from a macarbe horror movie.

The rehab is underway in bldg. 2 and the pool areas. The focus of work seems to be the pool areas which in the past had been described as being the best on the island.

This was our 7th or 8th visit to Aruba. One stay was at the Divi Golf resort. But all of the other stays were at this resort complex dating back to the original seperation from La Cabana. The friendliness of the staff and the guests is contagious. This is the easiest place to start up a conversation with a stranger and have a good time.

For the price $137/night it was the best. We had bedroom with king bed and our two girls had big pull out couch to sleep on in the living room. Kitchen worked great. Fridge and bathroom were clean. The nice thing there were grilling areas and Super Food store right behind it so we didn't have to go out and eat at all unless we wanted to. Hot tabs were perfect temperature for us and kids (most days not too hot). Slide was awesome - very fast. Our view out of the room was on waterfall that was turned off at 10pm so it was not noisy at night time but during the day view was amazing. We had all our meal on balcony. We were given rides in golf cart to beach or walked 5 minutes around one other hotel. because it is a time share - people are very friendly (even guests) and treat you as family. We talked to everybody in elevators, at the grill, at the pool and Dunkin Donuts and then we saw them all at the beach again. They provided us with beach chairs and cabanas if they were available. We slept in late so we only got cabana one time but there other trees and enough shade any way. We brought bread and fed fish from hands at the beach. Towels were clean any time we wanted - we would just replace wet ones for new ones as many times as we needed. For $35 we got internet card and had fast internet all week no problems at all. It even worked at the pool and beach... There are beautiful restaurant right around. La Cabana had nice grilled food. Passions on the beach. And along the ocean walking distance there were at least 5 other restaurant that were absolutely beautiful and half of them had outdoor seating. It is on the best beach on island the Eagle beach. Our room was cleaned every day even though the note said they didn't guarantee it every day. The tip is pay a tip and everything will be the best. So there was nothing that could be better at all.

First of all, this was certainly a cheaper option when staying on the island of Aruba (Aruba is VERY expensive as a whole - be warned! $5.50 for a bag of potato chips, anyone??).

We had an apartment on the 2nd floor, overlooking the rather lovely pool and courtyard area. The pool was clean, (loved the pool slide and the ever pressent Iguana's!).. the hotel staff VERY friendly, and the apartment itself was on the large side. The bed was the biggest I've stayed in in a long while, and the kitchen came fully stocked.

Just a few things to improve on though....the worst aspect about this room was the overwhelming smell of damp/mould. It's obviously a sea-air issue that they have failed to find a cure for...the damp in the room was so bad, the fridge and the bedside lamps were actually RUSTING AWAY!! Rust stains all over them, and the wooden veneer on the kitchen cabinets was rotten and peeling away due to the damp.I would never use the sofa bed...it just stank of mould.
Running the (welcome) air-conditioner 24/7 did nothing to get rid of the smell. It's something that urgently needs addressing during their upgrade.

The rooms are very 'retro' (the oldest hairdryer I've ever seen in a psychodelic green/blue bathroom) and need updating.

Overall, this place just needs a complete overhaul...but there are clearly signs that they are doing that. But you can bet it will be on 'island time' ...so don't expect it done soon!

Room Tip: Ask for 3rd floor pool-view if poss....

We spent a week at the Tropicana and had a great time. When we checked in, the front desk was packed. Our room had two double beds instead and no view of the pool. We asked if we could switch to a room with a king bed and a view and they said they were too busy and we could ask tomorrow. We were a little annoyed about this, but I did understand because there was definitely a crowd checking in. The pools were nice and the water slide was fun. Like everyone else said, the rooms are outdated but we didn't care because we spent ALL DAY, EVERYDAY at the beach. The beach was just across the street. Palapas are first come first serve, so be prepared to wake up at 6 am if you want to get some shade!
