“Great downtown location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

The Renaissance hotel has the best of both worlds- a downtown location close to shops and restaurants with a shuttle boat that takes you to a private beach. The hotel is adults-only with a small infinity pool off the lobby (the family section is across the street at the marina). Busy hotel, but the staff were friendly and the rooms were clean.

Room Tip: Virtually all rooms have a partial ocean view, so there really isn't a need to upgrade.

Very good stay at this hotel. Room was good, though basic and fairly small. Bar area is terrific with great drinks (ask about happy hour times when drinks are two for one) and relaxing vibe. Starbucks one floor below is convenient. Highlight is access to the hotel's private island, which is a 10-minute board ride away: good though not great food/drinks, great/clean beaches (one for adults, one for families), amazing access to difficult animals (pelicans, lizards, fish, etc).

I chose this resort (Marina hotel) because it is right in the heart of the city while still offering the peace of a beach vacation on the private island. I found out after booking just how close the private island is to the airport. Although it didn't really bother me, there will be planes landing and taking off right across from the island which can be quite loud. The adults only part of the island has several flamingos which are fairly friendly and will eat out of your hands. It took me a day or so to think about it though and realize that the resort must have brought in the flamingos and they have clipped their wings so they can't fly away. Mind your lunch on the island as some of the little lizards are a bit sneaky and might try to steal a bite. I am vegetarian and never went hungry here although of course my choices were somewhat limited. The staff really made the whole experience one to remember. They were incredibly attentive and friendly, the best service I've had anywhere. If you're doing the all inclusive, remember to factor in tips when deciding how much cash to bring with you for your trip. The resort was also very clean, I've never seen anyone clean an escalator before. The bathroom in the room could use an update but was clean and there were no issues. Our Sunquest tour rep. was helpful and readily available. She helped us rent a Jeep and we spent one day touring the island which I highly recommend. For $125 we saw the whole island in a day. There are virtually no signs anywhere which made driving a bit challenging but the island is so small you really can't get very lost. If you will be driving around, get a Jeep not a car, some of the roads are quite rough. We had a wonderfull time and hope for a return trip.

We stayed all inclusive in the Marina Hotel. The staff at both the suites and marina hotels were amazing. A big shout out to the staff at Blu and the staff at Aquarius. You are awesome!!! We had dinners at LG Smith Steakhouse. The "all inclusive menu" had lots of choices. The bathroom in our room did need updating. No real big complaints. There were a lot of teens on their cellphones in the lobby of the suites. However, I think it was still March break. We spent a lot of time poolside at Blu. It took a few days to "enjoy" the planes coming and going when we were on the island but it added to the experience and after the week, the planes turned out to be an amazing site to see too. The overall experience at the Renaissance was pretty amazing. The price was right and I would recommend this hotel to a friend.

Room Tip: We overlooked the City in the Marina Hotel, The second floor has private lounge that we didn't...

We thought that staying at a hotel that was not directly on the beach would be a problem, as we love being on the beach, but that was not the case here. The shuttle boats that took you over to the private Island was convenient, regular and comfortable. The private Island was very nice and had all the conveniences you could need, even free wifi. We stayed at the Resort View Marina Tower All Inclusive and the service was outstanding, They just completed the new bar "Blue" and the service was excellent and very friendly. We also visited their other hotel across the road and the service there was excellent. LG Smith's steak house was a favourite spot for my wife and we enjoyed the meals there. The Aquarius restaurant provided a wonderful array of dishes for lunch and dinner. We would definitely go back to the Renaissance.

We had a great time staying here for our honeymoon! Our first bit of advice for staying here is make sure you visit Raffi at the BLUE bar.. His hospitality is second to none. LG Smith's steak house was delicious and the private island was beautiful! Located near many attractions yet extremely relaxing.. If we ever go back to Aruba (which we will) we would stay here again!

Excellent food, good staff, ok pool (need more unbrellas), good service and an excellent private island. Marina tower billed as "adults only" is false. Although only adults are allowed to stay at the marina tower there are many families with many kids that come over from "ocean tower" for breakfast, lunch, dinner and in between. This was not a total spoiler for us but for someone looking for a truly adults only hotel this is not the place for you. We would still return but they should do something about it.

Room Tip: If you are really looking for "adults only" this is not for you. Still a very good hotel.
